I've always been just sort of suprised that they never built those additional sound stages across Buena Vista Blvd. over next to where the Swan/Dolphin is now... The story is that most film-makers, directors, producers, etc. hated the fact that guests walked above their live sets and watched the filming in action. Also (as was the case at Universal Studios) the noise of a theme park outside the sound stages was a major issue. Michael Eisner wanted movie and TV making to happen in Florida, and to beat Universal at their own game, so he proposed building another smaller campus of sound stages across the street, far away from any guests interferring with the filming. This of course was during the front-end of the "Disney Decade" annoucement in the early 90's which was inhibited (as we all know) by a reduction in vacation travel due to the war in the Middle East (Desert Storm) in the early 90's... So ultimatly, the question is, did Desert Storm kill MGM Studios?? Or perhaps it saved it from over-expansion which would have not seen much use by the movie-making world anyway? Who knows... The history behind this park has always interest me.
