Someone Talk Me Out of my Port Orleans French Quarter Addiction..... If You Can

Its not Disney that would be looking into it. Since the Swan and Dolphin are not Disney resorts, there's no reason for them to be included in Magical Express. Disney would much rather have people staying at their resorts. If they included Swan and Dolphin, they'd likely also have to include Downtown Disney hotels (Hilton, Doubletree, etc.) and Bonnet Creek.

Yes, makes sense.

POFQ is my favourite moderate, but Pop is my favourite value.........And if I had to choose......I actually love Pop more then POFQ.

Pop is cheaper, the food court has more variety, and buses are amazing. Plus if you stay in a lakeside room, (which are standard) you'll find Pop to be very peaceful and relaxing. :goodvibes There is no hot tub. That is the only thing I miss.

I think either resort would be perfect for someone going solo. Enjoy! :)
I second this!!! I actually dont care for POFQ, I like POR way more. But POP is my fave value for the reasons listed above. Its cheaper, food court is decent (plus the walk to the AoA food court is great too), plus the 60's lakeview is absolutely STUNNING!!!! I love the lakeview. So serene and peaceful! It really doesnt feel like youre at a value when you look at that lake.

I dont care for hot tubs or waterslides personally, so its not something i'd miss.

I just love the bright colorful oversized icons at Pop. Its fun. :)

Having said that, if you really like POFQ and if its in your budget, I say go for it. Stay with what youre comfy with. Ive stayed at every value and moderate resort....but im most comfy with Pop. To each their own.

Hey GoofyInToronto:

My husband and I visited Riverside (it was called Dixie Landings).... the theme of it was way too rural for my taste so that's why we chose the more festive New Orleans theme. Anyway, aside from that - Hubby and I had a bad experience (discrimination by a waitress) at Riverside at their table service restaurant and so I will never return there. It was a very humiliating experience and I dont care if it was isolated (the waitress) or advocated by the management... I simply will never return. Moreover.. .I think Disney's response to it wasn't that great either. I dont eve recall how they responded. I know it was a very tepid response and we chose to ignore it to move on and enjoy our honeymoon / vacation.

Hello All:

I don't want to confuse anyone. I am going SOLO probably in Late October / Early November and my choice resort is POFQ. I've stayed there with my former husband four years back to back from 97 to 2000. Now I am going solo because I can't find another adult who can afford it right now. There is even a chance that I may not be able to make it but as of right now... I'M GOIN' DARNIT!

Anyway POFQ is just my favorite for a number of reasons. It has an adult feel. I love the short bus lines when its time to leave the park. I love the short walk to my room from the bus because its one of the smaller resorts. And most especially I LOVE my ferry ride to Downtown Disney from Port Orleans. So I really have no problem with this decision. It's a no-brainer for me.

That being said I have decided to do POFQ knowing that I am also on a budget and I do wonder if I will enjoy POP Century (or another resort). Aside from the fact that a value resort will be cheaper and that a change will be simply a new form of excitement for me.... i'd like some more reasons to make this change. If I didn't love POFQ so much the change wouldn't be a problem but it IS a problem.

These boards are what changed my mind about doing a SOLO trip. Perhaps these boards can get me out of my POFQ COMFORT ZONE and give me other resort suggestions and reasons to not do POFQ.

I beseech you all to change my mind! Moreover, I would still welcome hearing from those who say stick with what I love (PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER). I feel so set on POFQ... someone please feel free to tell me to broaden my horizons and try another resort.

Thanks for indulging me!
I can't talk you out of it because I can't talk myself out of it! lol I did a solo trip last year, stayed at POFQ, and had a great time! Other resorts have more exciting themes IMO, so I've considered staying somewhere else but I'm afraid I won't like the other resorts as much. Also, I wouldn't be saving any money because I've ruled out all the values and all the other moderates. So it's either POFQ or a deluxe.

But of course I agree. lol

I'm going in the fall also some time during the Food and Wine Festival, so I know I want to be close to Epcot, but I don't want to stay at the Epcot area deluxe resorts. POFQ seems to have the best proximity to Epcot without being too far away from the other parks, so I think the location is great. If location wasn't a factor, I'd pick AKL or WL.

I love FQ too and staying at other resorts feels like I'm cheating ️haha

Ha ha! Yeah Jason, I suspect this will happen to me when i finally venture away from FQ.
I stay at akl now sometimes and it doesn't feel quite as wrong. I did stay at Riverside in January and that didn't feel wrong either but I catch myself walking to the wrong bus stop a lot lol gotta love FQ

I have a solo trip coming up and I'm considering POFQ partially because it's relatively small and I have mobility issues. However, how's the food court there? The food court at Riverside seems so much bigger and better, but then the resort's a lot bigger also, but walking over there really isn't an option for me. So how's eating at POFQ?

I haven't been there in 15 years and I'm going back in Oct. Perhaps something has changed about the quality... but I am willing to go out on a limb and note that at the end of the day it's fast food.... and as fast food goes - the food is tasty. From snacks to full course entrees like Chicken with mac and cheese, angus burgers, Baked Chicken Parmesan. I have honestly never had a full entree. I think the most I've had is a breakfast sandwich and late night my hubby and I got pizza. I still say that at the end of the day it's fast food... and it is tasty enough. It's a food court, not a table service restaurant. Hopefully someone else who has tasted a lot of whats on the menu will and their thoughts!

I've never done disney solo but I've stayed at POFQ at least half a dozen times and love it but with that said I've stayed at just about all of the resorts now and the only thing I guess I can add is that for me anyway staying at new resorts gives a whole new feel to each new trip. Maybe since you've traded in the old husband maybe it's time to trade in the old resort...at least once :)

Well, I am also doing a solo trip (October 18 - 22). I was leaning towads POP until now. The main thing I want to do is to go to the bus and get on the first bus that shows up. I will only have one ADR - the morning that I am going to do Keys to the Kingdom. So, due to the way the bus stops are set up, comments made here, and I have stayed at POFQ before, they are in the front running.

I have a solo trip coming up in May and chose the POFQ! There was a good deal on orbitz so i chose it based on a lot of reviews in the forums and the proximity to DTD, Epcot and DHS!!!! So excited!!

Perhaps honestly ask yourself how important the resort you are staying at actually is to you? Do you spend a good amount of time on the grounds? During the daytime? Other than just sleeping in your room overnight? Do you actually use the perks or amenities there? Other than the boat ride to Downtown Disney? Do you really get your money's worth out of the resort? If so and your heart is set on POFQ, then that answers your question. However, if you spend most of your time at the parks, don't really eat at the resort food court anyway (plan ADRs in the parks & at deluxe resorts), then give POP serious thought. With the savings you could 1) invest in your retirement savings account which is usually a great idea or 2) set it aside in small interest bearing account for the next WDW vacation next year or two years down the road. Knowing that you have started to plan for your next visit will help ease the sting of leaving at the end of this visit!

I would be considering whether staying where you stayed with your ex would make you sad, because you're remembering being there together, or whether it would be sort of "reclaiming" it for you as your own. Only you can figure that one out.

On a purely practical note, check whether the DTD construction will be done by then. Right now, the traffic there is an issue, so the boat to DTD would sway me toward POFQ.

I love the idea of touring resorts while you are there to see where you might like to stay on future trips.

Hello!

Making me Sad? No. That would have been an immediate no-go from the door.
Thanks for the DTD tip. As long as the ferry is operating I am going to use it. If now... I''ll gladly go another route. Not giving up on POFQ... as you said.. going to be RECLAIMING it as my own! (*_*)

Hey Sam:

Thanks so much for sharing your take on things. I like what you said.

I will indeed be sticking with POFQ because I love it that much. But indeed, based on some of the things you have noted above - I will be considering POP CENTURY if I find that my finances are not what I expected. At the end of the day I want to do Disney and I want to do so comfortably. If that means staying at POP instead of POFQ - then that's okay. Just the sheer joy of staying on the Disney premises is what works for me at the end of the day.

Blessings!
