Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

Got back last week from a great stay at the Poly. We were in Aetearoa third floor with a view of the monorail, the construction never bothered us at all except being woke up one morning from reverse beeps from a truck/cart backing up. Not sure if that was the construction crew or just the normal grounds crew at the Poly. Way too cold to swim when we were there even for us Michiganders so it didn’t bother us, but I could see how it could affect someones stay. We would absolutely stay there again and would like to see what it all looks like when finished.

I'm not too familiar with the grounds other than from maps. What part of the beach is affected with construction right now? I'm making final decision soon on whether to switch my WLV ressie to The Poly villas. Is the beach in front of Tahiti intact? Thanks.

Tahiti being Moorea now

So nervous about going. My MIL in law booked this hotel because of special meanings and she won't consider anything else. I'm just nervous because this will be my first time to WDW and I'll be close to 3 months pregnant and really hope the construction will be a little better the week 3/15-22.

I'm so torn. I understand why everyone is jumping ship. I think I'll hold out for a bit longer. Partly because we're a party of five now. So my options for one room that sleeps five are limited. We're only staying three nights at the Poly before we move to the BC. I really want an MK resort for those nights, so it's Poly, CR, or the WL. I don't think GF would be anyone's cup of tea, so I'm not considering that one. My preference is the Poly, then WL. WL would require two rooms, or a deluxe room. So for now, I'll stick with the Poly and see how the construction progresses. Without a main pool, we'll switch. But I'm like Scott. If my view is going to be just construction, I'm not interested, no matter how good the deal. View is important to me.

Last August, I booked the Poly for our first family Disney vacation. When I found out about the pool closure I jumped ship and went to the GF. I definitely made the right move. The GF was absolutely gorgeous!! 10 days in a garden room which could easily have been lagoon view for we could see Wishes every night! We're a middle class family who saved for this "trip of a lifetime". Didn't know we'd become Disney fanatics and be planning another 10 days the following year. The GF was warm, welcoming, peaceful and pretty. My kids spent many hours in the pool meeting other kids and playing games. I hear so many people say that the GF may feel overly pretentious and stuffy. We didn't feel that way at all. We actually enjoyed being out of our realm a little, living the life in the upper class' shoes, so to speak. Lol It makes me giggle a little when I think of us amonsgst many who are the elite. If you're looking for an alternate to the Poly don't count the GF out!

Was the monorail working at Poly and were you able to get around the resort fine. I'm not much of a pool person, but just using the room to sleep and breaks during the day due to it's location.

Yes, the monorail was working everyday with the exception of one morning, as we were standing in the monorail we were told that we needed to get off. As we just got on the boat to MK we could see the monorail running again. We thought we would miss rope drop because of the amount of time it took to load the boat and make it over. However we realized once we got to MK that it was opening at 9am not 8am like we thought. Being on the monorail totally made the trip for us, quick for mid day breaks during the day and midnight runs to MK most nights. Loved it!

Here's the link

Thanks so much!

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any videos out there which are not focused on the construction, during this construction phase, but offer views of the resort from other vantage points ie non-construction zones. I would love to see what it's like walking around the resort, on the beach, in the new lobby etc.

And you had no issues moving around the resort and the construction didn't ruin the experience for you. Also what room type did you stay in.

Hello All:

My family and I are booked currently for the Poly for 5 people March 5 to 8. I have read the reviews concerning the construction. Disney has informed us we are getting free passes to Typhoon Lagoon since the main pool is closed. We are AP and got a good rate. The hotel also seems pretty empty.

We would really like to stay at the Poly due to the extra passes and the monorail, however, is it worth it? Meaning should we move on to another resort on the Monorail and just enjoy that pool? The temps should be around 76-82 and my kids are fine at that temp (crazy kids). If we do stay, where should we request our rooms to be?

Thank you for your insights.

Cheers,

Eric

What do you guys think about Theme Park View - Club Level next week. I can get a pretty good deal on it, would have a great view and would be club level. I do realize that there is construction going on, but it could be just too tempting to say no to.

By good, what rate did you see?

Thanks!

Construction in front of Hawaii was nuts! Construction guys everywhere, trucks, loud tools. We debated staying CL and glad we didn’t. Even though it’s “theme park view” it’s really far away.

Should the construction in front of Hawaii be pretty much done by the beginning of June? Or will they still be working on the bungalows?

I've always considered the GF, but I dont think they have good dining options and the price point is a little high for annual or multiple trips per year. Most dining options are outside our budget and the QS is basically sandwiches and pasta (not a huge fan). I think the pool is amazing and the overall grounds are spectacular. Maybe someday. However, Im too in love with the polynesian culture to pass up the Poly, even if its tore up.

We stayed away this past year and did POR and WL CL instead...And although we REALLY liked WL, and are booked at BWI currently...I am SO leaning toward going back to the Poly.

Does anyone know if the tiki torches are lit or will be lit at night in may? How is the ambiance at night currently. Thats my main concern since evenings is when im most at the resort.

Having seen the decor of the refurbished rooms, I think I could easily spend time at the GF. I think my sister has her heart set on the Poly - if it won't work, I think the WL would work as a substitute. I'd love to stay at all the deluxes at some point. The GF, BWI, and CR are the three I've not stayed at.

Taking the construction that's going on in mind, if you were given a rate of $276.52 a night for a standard room knowing you were only going to use it to sleep and a mid day break, would you book it.
