Do the characters mind? *~Best character interaction stories~*

I am a former CM of 12 years and I can say that I didn't mind at all when adults only come to see me. I have been blessed to be "friends with" many characters and some of the best interactions I've had have been with adults. Some of the worst have also been with adults ;)
As long as you keep your behavior/conversation appropriate we enjoy real conversations. In fact, we go through lots of training to have those conversations. Unfortunately the autograph book has taken a lot of that interaction time away. But I understand the novelty of getting that autograph.
I read a lot of interactions feeling rushed. Please know it's not from the character. On busy days, we are instructed to get through the line as quickly as possible.
That part I did not like. I wanted to spend time with the guests because I know how long they had waited.
I also read a post about "creepos". We're trained to handle those kind of guests too ;) Cause yes, we got them.
When I wasn't working and spending time in the park, I still got excited when I saw a character out and about. I think that's what makes Disney wonderful. It brings out the kid in all of us and no one should make anyone feel bad for immersing themselves in the magic!
So adult only travelers....search out your favorite characters...engage in their fairy book story.....they love it!

love this!
nice to hear from the friends of characters to see how they view this topic, love that they enjoy both the kids, and kids at heart!!

ok so this thread was originally meant to help calm my nerves about whether or not older people could enjoy the characters and i can honestly say i have a much better insight!

so i added to the title because this thread is full of so many awesome memories! lets keep hearing about your best character interaction, even if its just meeting that one character you just love more than the others! i personally love reading all of these stories!:goodvibes:goodvibes

I had some great character interaction when DH and I went on our Disney honeymoon, and I was 33 at the time. It was my first trip to WDW. Ariel is my favorite character so we waited in line to meet her and she was great, I have red hair so she chatted about how we could be sisters and we took some great photos. We did not feel rushed at all. That same trip we saw Rafiki in Epcot, he was so much fun. He gave me a big hug, then when DH was taking our pictures Rafiki gives me another hug and mimes for DH to go away. I showed him my new wedding ring and he brought DH over to look at both of our rings and then had the handler take a picture of all of us. Again we did not feel rushed and had a great time with him.

Enjoy your trip and the characters!!

Nice I met her A LONG time ago she was really nice and even kissed my cheek!

Love when ppl get to meet their favorite!!

My sister and I (both 30) went to Disney World for the first time last year for our B-days.

We too were quite apprehensive about visiting with the characters due to our age but we definitely had a blast with MOST of our interactions.

The Good:

We met Chip and Dale in their western attire. We did the standard hugs etc. and Dale gave me a kiss and the handler asked me which 'munk was my favourite and I joked and said Dale of course as he was the only one that gave me a kiss. Chip then quickly turned around and paused with his hands on his hips and then started to elaborately strut over to my direction and once he reached me dipped me over and gave me a very drawn out kiss much to the amusement of everyone watching.

We met with Cinderella before going up to our reservation at Cinderella's Royal Table. She was very talkative to us. At the time I was wearing this white cap and she went on about how she liked it and perhaps she could make one for Gus etc. Once upstairs we met with Snow White, Rapunzel, Ariel and Aurora all of whom stayed and chatted for a bit. Rapunzel and my sister had a conversation about Pascal, Ariel talked about my sisters shell barrette in her hair, Aurora remarked that for a 30th birthday we would need a cake the size of the room and Snow White scolded me at one point during the "wishes" part of the evening (you are supposed to keep your eyes closed and wave your magic wand etc.) but I had my eyes open feeling a bit foolish about it and she saw me and pointed and said "uh-uh, keep them closed!" and I quickly complied. :)

We met with Pooh and Tigger outside the 100-Acre Wood Ride and they were fun. Tigger was very energetic and goofy, he made us stay for extra hugs and a bouncing competition (which he won). We also met with Pooh, Tigger, Eyeore and Piglet at Crystal Palace which was good, they made a lot of time for extra pictures and didn't make us feel rushed or anything.

We met with the Fab-5 at Chef Mickey's and once again everything was good. The characters came around to see us twice. My sister wanted to take a selfie with Goofy who zooming in his face on the camera (we have several pictures of just his nose lol). Once again we didn't feel rushed or anything. We actually asked if Donald could come to see us a third time as our photos for the first 2 encounters were pretty blurry and it wasn't an issue.

We also met talking Mickey in Magic Kingsom, Belle in Epcot, Mexican Donald in Epcot, Daisy in Animal Kingdom, Stitch in Typhoon Lagoon, Mickey, Goofy and Minnie in Epcot and Safari Mickey and Minnie in Animal Kingdom all of which were good and at no point were we made to feel awkward. (there may have been more characters actually)

The bad:

We were visiting Aladdin and Jasmine in Epcot and after we got our pictures I was pushed away by the gentleman playing Aladdin. I'm still not entirely sure if it was intentional but I was soured by it nonetheless. It seemed like they were trying to speed things up.

We did an Akershus dinner and while the princesses there were nice and did stop for pictures there was no small talk, just a quick "would you like a photo" and then off. It was very busy though so that likely had to do with it.

I've had some good interactions with Disney Characters, but the best one I had was with a couple of Marvel characters at Universal. I was with my family and had the kids posing for pics with Captain America, Cyclops, etc. We came to Rogue and Storm from the X-Men and I mentioned to my eldest daughter that Rogue was my favorite character from reading the comics. She of course tells the characters who immediately pull me in to get a picture. In the shot it looks like they're about to knock me out cold. It was embarrassing and fun at the same time, because I played along.

I remember just sitting down at 1900 Park Fare at GF for dinner one trip. I think it was our first night there... and one of the step sisters came trotting by, grabbed my 10 year old son by the hand and drug him to the dance floor.. priceless!!!

I'm pretty averse to hugging strange adults, so I would not make a good CM. What kind of training do you get for handling inappropriate guests?

Our experience with Belle in May was great! No one was in line after us at Akershus, and she probably took 5ish minutes to talk to us, and our meeting with Gaston. Ariel on the other hand wasn't so great, but then the Ariel we met at MK was fabulous.

love that bell took so long with y'all! and yes ariel needs her fin i think to be chatty lol (she did trade voice for legs haha)

My wife (27) and I (30) have had a few really nice character interactions.

On our first trip together we ate at Garden Grill. Mickey was the first to come to our table and as Mickey often does he got flirty with my wife (girlfriend at the time), kissing her hand and such. I was like "Hey, I'm watching you Mouse" followed by my pointing at my eyes then at him... you know, to show I meant business. About 3 minutes after Mickey let our table, he came back with Chip and pointed at me as if to say "This is the guy." For the rest of the meal, every time one of the characters walked by our table (which happens pretty often at GG) they would do the eye point thing as to say "I'm watching you". It didn't matter if it was Chip, Dale, Mickey or Pluto, they all did it. My wife thought it was hilarious that the characters were like threatening me. Just before we left, the characters all came to our table and we made a truce. That was like a 75 minute long character interaction. The people at the booth next to us asked why we got so much attention from the characters. They laughed when I told them I threatened Mickey.

Another really entertaining character interaction was at breakfast at 1900 PF. My wife and I got engaged a few nights earlier so my wife was wearing her "Just Engaged" button. After Mary Poppins gave me some sass for not wearing my button, she then went on about how now that we are engaged we need to start looking for a nanny. She went on for about 3 or 4 minutes telling us her references, qualifications and on and on like she was applying for the job. She was really quick and witty and answered all the questions we had.

We have also had 2 separate experiences where we actually met the CMs before they were in costume and then saw them in character. First, while on the Undiscovered Future World tour, we went back to where the characters get ready. One of the girls was talking a little bit about what she does, but didn't tell us who she was. It was towards the end of the tour and she was just starting to get ready. While walking around the WS, Snow White looked awfully familiar to us, so we got on line. We chatted a little back and forth with her since she recognized us from the tour, asking if we saw anything good that day. The other time where we met the CMs before they were in costume was on DCL. My wife and I were on our way to see Nightmare Before Christmas 4D in the theater. While heading down in the elevator we were talking to 2 people who were very Jack and Sally-ish, who happened to be getting off the elevator a couple of floors below us. We told them we were heading to the movie (I was wearing a Jack shirt, my wife was wearing a Sally shirt) and they were telling us how there are special guests after the movie. We mentioned that we had waited 3 hours to be first in line at MNSSHP to meet them the year before. They promised that the wait is not nearly as long after the movie. When we got off the elevator I turned to my wife and I as like "You know that was probably them" but she didn't believe me until they showed up at the end of the movie. When we did the M&G after the movie, I said to J&S "I think we saw you in a past life." Sally's response was "We hope you didn't have to wait 3 hours, like we've heard some people have." The 4 of us had a good laugh.

(I was solo for this trip).

My favourite characters are Chip and Dale, and I have a tattoo of them on my left wrist. At the Garden Grill, Dale saw the tattoo and obviously realised I was a huge fan. He knelt down next to me and stroked the tattoo, pointed at himself on the tattoo and then did a thumbs up, as if to say "I look the best!". He wrote in my autograph book 'Dale loves you' and it made me very, VERY happy to see that! Dale spent about 5 minutes with me in total, and I felt very special.
(Chip, on the other hand, didn't seem to like the tattoo. He rubbed at it to confirm it was real, then shook his head and walked off... It made me sad, actually, because I spent money getting a tattoo I loved of my favourite characters and it seemed very out of character. I told my server I didn't even get a photo, so she said Chip was having a bad day because Dale had eaten all of the food, and he'd be back after his snack. Dale made up for it, though.)

I was waiting for 20 minutes in line at MK to see Stitch, my other favourite, to be the last in line and then I was told Stitch had to go. He was waving at his CM, and covering his eye, which I believe my cousin (used to be friends with characters at DLP) said was code for a wardrobe malfunction- maybe that was why. Stitch had just been dealing with a group of toddlers. Anyway, Stitch came out about ten minutes later, and it was raining very lightly, and I was the only person there. We had great fun together. A girl came out with Stitch and his CM, and she was very eager to make sure I got lots of pictures. She was friendly and enthusiastic and seemed to know the CM and Stitch very well. I wondered if maybe she was friends with the previous Stitch as she was the right height...? Anyway, she got some amazing, amazing photos on my iPhone for me, and they are by far my favourites because they're more natural than my photopass ones. Made me very happy and I gave her a hug to thank her for the pixie dust.

My last solo favourite was at Camp Minnie Mickey first thing in the morning. I spent ten minutes with all of the characters in a big group because I was the ONLY person there! Crazy, but it made my whole trip!! Donald, Chip and Dale were clowning around, the 'munks were making me help them prank him. Baloo and King Louie also came over to help, and Chip and Dale acted scared of Baloo, until he showed them he was friendly. Then Mickey came over and wagged his finger at us for tormenting Donald. It was so great! Donald also came and sat next to me on the bench I was at when I'd finished with them all, and we had a conversation about my hat. It's amazing how they communicate without words, isnt it? Here's a pic of that.

My last encounter wasn't on the solo trip. I was with my family, again at Garden Grill. DNiece was 2 at the time, and she had lots of Mickey and friends figures, I believe it was the Fab Five plus a few extras. Anyway, Mickey saw her playing with them at the table and came and sat next to her and played for a good 5 minutes. Chip knocked over the Donald and Pluto figures as he walked past and gave an exaggerated giggle (this Chip was very good compared to the other one!) and it was great fun. Eva loved feeling so special! No pics of this, they're on my old iPhone. :(

Sorry for the short novel. :o

I don't think i've ever had a bad interaction with characters.

Gaston is always hilarious and usually has no wait, I've seen the same person every time I go and he has been great with both kids and adults. The Crone when i went on Halloween stole my broom and wanted to exchange an apple for it. The villians soiree people though rushed still came to our table and gave us the same time as the kids.

The only time I felt a bit put out was in Arkehus when all the princesses didn't visit our table, but the one princess missed our whole room so that has nothing to do with me being an adult since she skipped over children as well.

those sound awesome its so cool you met "FRIENDS" of the characters i know just last week on instagram i found the friend of Peter Pan that i had met on my previous trip (it was a really bad start to the trip involving ambulance ride to ER, after receiving a IV with med to stop my heart in the resort room) any way Peter saw my shirt of him and went over the top for me i loved every minute of it really turned the trip around. anyways loved that i got to tell his friend Thanks personally for helping turn the trip around!!

Sorry for the short novel. :o

don't feel sorry for the novel I loved reading it!! sounds like some really great memories were made!! and i agree sometimes photos miss the good shots i know I'm victim to one memory id have loved to have had captured lol!!

I don't think i've ever had a bad interaction with characters.

my next trip is during the halloween season I'm begging our group to consider the party i love villains lol
I'm usually the only character lover of any group and i try not to drag everyone else to every chapter is see lol, I've heard great stories of gaston though and he's on my to meet list!

sounds like a blast! sometimes the princesses are too rushed lol glad to hear you haven't had any really bad interactions!!

(posted this once before but couldn't decide which was best forum)

So do the characters face or masked enjoy getting pictures and interacting with older fans (like me for example 22 year old guy, but I'll admit look younger) or do they prefer us to move along so they can get to the younger guests?

I can understand in lines you get looks from other guests like why are you taking up times from my actaual kid? I see it as we're all children in Disney but not sure if the characters are just being nice to older because they have to or if they honestly don't mind. I'll be honest I've always loved characters don't think the magic will ever wear off and would hate to think they might treat you slightly different due to age.

Any advice or anyone who's been friends with characters have any insight?
Last summer when I picked FP+ and realized I had done it all and didn't want to do space mountain with my family I got a FP+ for Anna and Elsa. Knowing this is big with the little ones I figured I'd jump in a quick pic and move alone. Heck I'm going on 50. Well Anna and Elsa had other plans. They talked and talked to me and were so sweet. So the answer must be the characters like it because I was really trying to be quick. And I'm a lot older than you.

Image038-2.jpg Our first full family trip in '07 - While taking a break in the back area of the UK in EPCOT, our DD (then 4yo) was playing in the hedge maze when Alice came out from Backstage for a scheduled M&G. When she saw our daughter in the maze, she shouted "I want to play too!", and proceeded to play tag / hide and go seek with DD for a solid 5 minutes in the maze! It was a truly magical moment, and we were soo appreciative!

I, too, was "friends" with many characters as a CM from 2000-2004. I had many great interactions with adults and think many times they can be just as excited as kids:thumbsup2 I still find interacting with characters magical and love taking my kids to see them. My very good friend is a "friend" of talking Mickey and I was blown away by how excited I was to meet him and have words come out of his mouth even though I "knew" him;) I loved interacting with Japanese tourists, which were usually just adults, because of how enthusiastic they were. Their enthusiasm for Disney was contagious:D When I did character meals sometimes I would visit tables with just adults and they would act like the characters were bothering their meal. I didn't understand why they paid for a character meal then:confused3 I think if you are excited to meet them they'll be excited to meet you, too. For any adults wanting to meet characters- have a wonderful time!:woohoo:

If you're a shy 16 year old girl - like I WAS - your interaction with Goofy might involve a marriage proposal  and him following you off the boat after you've had a character breakfast with him. :tiptoe:

You can tell how old this story is - they don't even offer the breakfast on the boat anymore....ahhh, those were the days! :cutie:
