DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Thanks. So with one account I can sign into multiple devices at once?
We have 3 iPads, 3 laptops, and 4 gaming systems that we have watched on but not sure of how many at once though with 4 of us we have had 3 running at the same time.
Back in KY and.....

no water in the neighborhood and no idea when service will be back. :headache::headache: We were supposed to head to the big city on Wednesday for pre-op but if I can get everything done in the office we may head out tomorrow. Getting real tempted to bring back the old avatar.
Hang in there and sorry about the water situation. Keep your spirits up friend.

Good morning. Barry, I can watch Netflix on my laptop while DW watches it on Apple TV and the kids could watch something as well on the iPad. It's pretty cool.

Thanks for the Netflix answers gentlemen!

Good morning everyone.
The phrase "cut the cable" doesn't really apply since we had DirecTV, but I did cancel that subscription this weekend. Almost $100 month, and when we sat down and looked at what we really watch - 90% of it was regular networks we can get free over the air (NBC, CBS, ABC, etc.) So I invested in a TiVo and a $30 HD antenna for the attic and we're pulling in crystal clear HD from all of the Milwaukee stations and a few of the Chicago ones too. Still deciding if Netflix is worth a try. Opinions?

That's what we did. I kept Cable Internet, but shut off cable tv. We have Netflix and local network channels. I miss ESPN and live sports, but that is it.

I'd love to do the same, but the loss of live sports is what keeps me from pulling the plug. Comcast owns the TV station that shows most of my teams' games, and I don't see them releasing that content to a streaming service anytime soon.

Good Morning Guys. Hoop game tonight for DD. Coach is not going to be there as the state tournaments are all starting tonight and he has a commitment. I will be putting my 2-0 record on the line in an effort to remain perfect.:thumbsup2

Hope everyone has a good Tuesday.

Barry - I have been researching this like CRAZY for about the past week. We currently have Verizon FIOS for all of our services. Our TC portion is around $125\month. I am looking at getting an OTA antenna and looking at various devices. I'm a HUGE fan of Tivo. They have the BEST and snappiest interface of all the devices around. My current concern is around sports. I know Dish has been pimping Sling TV for around a $20\month subscription and it offers a lot. It doesn't work with Tivo yet, so I'd prob have to get another device or stream from my tablet\phone using Chromecast. My problem with an attic antenna is that I don;t think I can really run the cable b\c our LR has a Cathedral ceiling with not attic there. I think I'm ordering the Mohu Leaf OTA antenna today to start this process.

Lot of pressure to keep that perfect record. Good luck!

I got lucky that my attic is directly above a closet that already has some duct work going up through it. I was able to drop the cable off the antenna down with the duct, the drill a small hole through the closet wall directly behind my entertainment center. It almost looks like it was done by someone that knows what he was doing!
All of the Packer games are on local OTA channels anyway, and all ESPN would show for baseball was Red Sox and Yankees anyway, so I'm not missing anything there!

Morning guys, hope all are well.

Over the hump at the Canada Games, should be home by next Monday. Of course, only the pets will be there to greet me, DS left for Florida with his grand father yesterday and DW leaves on Sunday. I hope they left me some food.

@FreezinRafiki What are you going to do for Thurday night, Sun night and monday night football??? I have been thinking of this but to loose 3 nights of football is a lot to give up.

Thursday and Sunday are on NBC, aren't they? So they're still covered. I only lose Monday night. In the past, the local ABC station would carry ESPN's feed if the Packers were playing. Even if they don't, I have NFL Mobile on my phone, so worst case I watch the game on there.

Howdy all...

I have been out of the loop (and a number of other loops for that matter) for quite some time now and it's about time I did something about that. Starting off with checking back in over here. This place can be some of the best medicine available on many levels.

hope all are reasonable well.
For those that aren't (and for Shawn in particular) know that prayers are offered.

Now, it's time to get myself out there and see just what all I've missed out on while I foolisly allowed work and health to hold more then their fair share of sway over my world.

Y'all take care and I'll be back in a bit.

I just purchased the Mohu 30 Leaf OTA Antenna. Not sure what I'm going to do about the device. Which Tivo did you buy and if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay? Right now I am simply doing proof of concept to see how things play out.

Same deal here. Steelers get carried on the local affiliate and in the event that they do not, then I will stream from NFL mobile that comes with being a Verizon Wireless customer. My only gap that I have here is the lack of recording with the NFL Mobile app. I actually care less about recording things, it's more the benefit of the pause, FF, RE functions. We often wait to watch shows so that we can FF through the commercials. As for the NFL games, on Sundays I often record the games so that I can get yard work done without missing a play. Maybe I just need to put my kids to work in the fall.

Afternoon fellas

Good luck and better keep that undefeated record going - you know how parents can get :rotfl:

Hope whatever health issues you had have been fixed. How's DS doing at school with this lovely winter weather?

Prayers and thoughts every day for you. Hope the water situation is fixed by now. I liked the old avatar, but in this cold, the rain would be an ice storm.

Afternoon guys. Computer is still in the shop so problems multi quoting on an Ipad.

Shawn, you are welcome to camp out down here anytime. Carl and Jim, hang in there.

Also debating on dumping cable. $200 a month for HD and Internet. My problem is college football. I think I can get enough other live sports on the networks but during during the season, my butt is planted in front of the TV. Now if ESPN sold a streaming package, I'd be in.

Hope everyone is enjoying the day.

Welcome back! Hope the health issue you mentioned isn't too bad.

I got the Roamio. You can get it from Amazon $50 cheaper than direct from Tivo (and free shippping!) http://www.amazon.com/TiVo-Digital-...v&ie=UTF8&qid=1424806128&sr=1-1&keywords=tivo. That's the only model that works with an HD antenna.
Once you get it, hook it up and it go through the settings to find the Device ID (or whatever they call it.) Create your account on TiVo.com and give it that ID, so it knows what your system is. From there you have three options for service: $14.99 a month, $149 per year, or $499 for the life of the device. I did the annual, since it works out to $12.50/month. I've heard people warn about the $500 option because if your device dies and you need to replace it, the service does not transfer to another box. Not sure if that's true or not, but I also didn't want to pay an additional $500 to save money on TV.

You may want to look into Sling (https://www.sling.com/) For $20/ month you can stream ESPN, TBS, TNT, etc.

Thanks for all the prayers and kind wishes. Will try to get back on after surgery or give SWMBO the secret password so she can update everyone how it goes. We have committed it to God and I have peace however it goes.

Hang in there Rob and take care of yourself, Spring, sunshine, and the DCI season is coming!

Holy carp Barry. I basically watch sports, old movies and news so this would work. $25 includes ESPN U. Do you use it and do I have to get a TiVo? Thinking about getting Apple TV.
