Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

Hoping to join you guys, signed up for my first half-marathon....the Disneyland half marathon in September. I started running in May 2014, have done a few 5k's, an 8k and a 10k so far. My longest distance to date is 8 miles. Wondering if I need to think about corral placement? I ran an 8min 57 second per mile pace for my 10k. My goal is to run the whole half marathon.

Welcome aboard!

I'm not sure what your pace works out to in kilometres, but it sounds pretty good! You can just submit that time if you're happy with it. The only requirements are that it is 10k or over and an officially timed event.

For me, the only time I would really be concerned about being in an early corral are (a) if I was right on the edge of the pacing requirements and was concerned about being swept, or (b) if I was planning to stop for character photos etc and wanted to try and beat the crowds. Sounds like neither of those really apply to you, so I wouldn't bother to do anything special, just submit your best time so far.

If you have an official time for your 10K, definitely submit it when runDisney starts taking submissions next month. If you're put in a later corral running that pace you'll likely be frustrated with the amount of weaving you'll need to do to run comfortably.

Welcome!! :)

I've had a reservation at HoJo for a few weeks now, but all your talk about the DLH got to me, SO.... I booked with GetTravel this morning!!! This will be my time staying in property at DLR, and I am beyond excited for those pools! My kids are going to FREAK when they find out! (It's a surprise!)

Party at the DLH!!

In training news, I've got one more long run on Saturday in prep for another 10K next weekend - and I'm in Corral 2 for that race! There are only 4 corrals, but still ... yay! Hoping to shave a couple of minutes off my January time just in time for proof of time to open! Husband and my gal pal that are running DLH with me are doing the 10K too, so it should be a fun time. A large portion of the course is where I do my training runs, so I'm oddly not nervous this time around - I was crazy nervous in New Orleans. Dumb, right?

So out of idle curiosity, being Texas is it safe to assume your training course is relatively flat? No major elevation changes? With the weather in single digits here on the bitter east coast I've been taking a "recovery week" until things thaw out just a bit.

The part of Fort Worth I live in is pretty flat - and I generally run three different "courses" when I train, just to mix it up and also to for convenience. Here are the elevations!

Long Route: This is all along the Trinity Trails. I usually park by the Woodshed or Colonial and run out and back. This run was 7 miles.

Short Route: This is another run on a different portion of the Trinity Trail. I use this for shorter mid-week runs, because I typically ride my bike down to the trail. The large spike is up a hill to get to the bridge that crosses the river.

Neighborhood Route: This is the route I run from my house - out and back. It's mostly for convenience when I don't have the time to commit to a trail run, but also because I don't want to run on the Dreadmill.

I'm so jealous of all you lucky people staying at the DLH!

I have my next 10k event this weekend. I'm super dooper nervous! My last 10k was a disaster, and my training runs haven't been much good in the last couple of weeks either due to stress and exhaustion. Really hoping I can manage a decent time!

FWIW most races in Australia aren't big enough to have corrals. Even at the large city events you rarely get more than 3. And those 3 are: super fast people who might actually place; regular runners who can maintain a decent pace; then beginners and walkers at the back. I am pretty much already in the highest level corral I will ever get to lol! 5k events are almost never split into corrals.

Sure you all will have the nice pools, and the short walk to/from the race but over on Harbor I'm much closer to Disneyland!! That has to count for something. :-)

You will not regret it!!!! and the best part is you can keep running right to your room for a nice shower and that's priceless.

Listen, Initally I was at staying at the hojo.... but with my last WDW marathon staying at the port orleans It felt like forever.... to get back home... first round is on me if I see you at Trader Sam's :jumping2:

So DH and I will be in the US next week. I'm hoping to stock up on running shoes and Gu Chomps :thumbsup2 Where do I find these things? Do I need to go to a specialty running store like I do over here?

FWIW we'll be in Oregon. Are there any locals here who can give us advice about good running stores/outlet centres? Towns/areas we'll be going through include: Portland, Columbia River Highway, Bend, Eugene, mid coastal region and Salem. We won't have much time, but if there are any outlet centres worth checking out along our route, we can probably spare a couple of hours, especially if the rumours I've heard about Oregon having no sales tax are true ;)

Been a few years since I was in Bend, OR, great town. Fleet Feet Sports and Foot Zone were two local stores. They also had a Finish Line which has stores throughout the US. None of these are "outlet" stores but typically have sales or clearance items that might be appealing. Bend has lots of great running trails and brewpubs! Portland probably has tons of running stores.

If you get a chance to drive down the Oregon Coast, do it! All of the beach is state owned and pristine. We started at Astoria and drove all the way down to Bandon before turning East and making our way to Bend then up to the Columbia River Gorge, and an amazing waterfall at Multonomah Falls (I'm sure I misspelled that) before reaching Portland. Some amazing scenery.

Keels.......that doesn't look all that flat! I'm no geographer, but it looks like you've got some pretty decent inclines in a short amount of space there, especially the 2nd route.

My house sits at the bottom of our neighborhood, and it is definitely straight uphill BOTH ways so I totally understand about "no flat" areas.
Dreadmill--aptly named. Our weather has been so bad the past two weeks....it's 9 degrees outside right now.....that I ran a 14 mile loop between my living room, dining room, and sunroom last night. Definitely flat and climate controlled!

LOL - There is no such thing as flat ground where I live. I run hills, hills and more hills. I am running the NJ Half at the end of April and it is dead flat. I expect to totally smoke that course. party:

If you are in Portland, Nike has a Brand Experience store in downtown just off Pioneer Square. 2 floors, most sports categories, newest releases, so not "outlet prices".

On the way south of Portland are the outlets in Woodburn. That is your best collection of outlet stores in the state.

In Eugene, the mall that has Eugene Running Company also has a Nike Running store that specializes in running footwear, apparel, and support items.

Have a great trip! I have 3 days on the coast near Lincoln City next week for a work off-site. Hope the weather isnt too bad.

I live in Prescott, Arizona and we are 5600 feet above sea level. Many people have a hard time adjusting to the altitude, but it is great to train at. Most of my races are down in Phoenix and I can knock a whole minute per mile off my time if not more.
