Selfie Sticks?

Are people using Selfie Sticks in the parks?
Living in the country, I don't see many people taking selfie's.

Wondering if I'm going to have to be dodging these sticks on our next trip.

Ok, wait nevermind I just checked it out what a stupid thing! Can we say narcissists R Us? Blah ....
Yeah... My 2 "winners" are the guy with a Go Pro on a stick trying to shoot his tram ride, only to panic when the tram driver in the other direction honked at him. And the girl running the Star Wars 5K with it fully extended.

Those are the Disney examples, anyway.

Good God Miss Molly!
I guess that I have been lucky so far not seeing those stupid things in the park! Now that I have read of this warning essentially, If I end up in a bit of a cranky mood, I will have to watch myself. Otherwise, someone is going to end up with a selfie stick where the sun don't shine! And it ain't goin to be me! Lol

5K girl is definitely lucky she didn't trip and give herself a discount facial piercing.

Most people don't keep them extended. And then there are times where we should look out for them. Like the group standing in front of the Partners statue with the stick extended. If you walk into that stick, you weren't watching. That's a well known photo op spot where groups gather. I think most people don't walk around with it extended. But I wish CMs would crack down on it more. Walking through crowds with a stick extending 2.5 feet in front of you.. Not terribly safe or considerate.

  • The big problem I see are people walking into them.
  • Would you hang $500 or $1000 in front of you for "Apple Pickers"?

As others have said, yes, you'll probably see selfie sticks in the parks. I'm not a huge fan of them, but they seem to be growing in popularity so it's something that we'll have to get used to seeing. I try to keep an eye on my surroundings to know if someone is walking around with one because if they make a sudden/unexpected turn, you might end up having to dodge the stick or risk getting whacked. I do wish DLR would do something that prohibits folks from using things like the selfie sticks on attractions. I'm always worried that the thing will come lose or the person will lose their grip and it'll strike someone else.

Best term I ever herd for them is called a Narcis-stick!

I'm sure the grandkids will run into one on our next trip. I'll have to keep and extra eye out for the kid's safety.

If they come close to a collision, I can tell them to "Watch out for that person Narcis-Stick!"

Maybe one day Disney will add Selfie Sticks to the list of Prohibited Items.

I saw two people using them during my last visit, so not a huge number but it was the first time I had seen the sticks at Disneyland. I read that some museums like the Getty in SoCal are banning them as a safety hazard. Perhaps Dland will follow suit on this trend. We'll see.

I didn't know they existed until our trip in December, then all of a sudden they were EVERYWHERE.

I could barely concentrate on our ride through Splash Mountain. My eyes were fixed on the stick they guy had hanging outside the log the entire time. OK, I *might* have been hoping he would whack something and lose his phone in the water. :rolleyes1

Funny, I was actually thinking of getting one for Disney. Not to take on rides (that's lame) or because I'm narcissistic, but because I go solo. I found myself passing up photo ops last time because I had no one to take the picture. The best picture I had is one of Chip and I gamely trying to take a (bad) selfie. I figured having the stick would make it easier to take photos with characters, and also give me a way to overcome my shyness with the characters (since it would give me a 'reason' for visiting them). But reading this I'm not so sure...
