Writing

That's why it's always good to make an outline before you start writing. Although sometimes I'll have an idea and only a hazy idea of how it'll turn out and it's easier to just start.

All my fantasy stories come from my imagination.I don't use outlines usually.I find them a bit confusing.

Well, an outline doesn't have to be confusing. You can organize it however you want and make it as detailed or vague as necessary. Like, for instance, when I wrote a book last year for my senior project, I made an outline so I knew how many chapters it would be and a basic idea of what would happen in each chapter. It changed a lot though, but that's the best part, is that you don't have to be held to anything, it's just good to provide a sort of map or backbone to your story so you're never stuck for what to have happen next. I used to never want to use outlines either but I've found that they can be very useful. I never make them too detailed though, just so that I can have lots of room to change things around if I have to.

I find outlines confusing as well, but I still use them. They don't have to necessarily be used for every single chapter, because the first chapter I'm kind of winging it, but I know where I want to go by the end. Basically you can outline as you go for the detailed stuff, but not all outlines are messy.

And that's awesome! Fantasy stories from the imagination are usually the best ones, because those are the stories that can go on for a while, and occasionally become a popular series.

Oh, and for those who are struggling with story starting, you can look up creative writing tips on google. See, by reading about what you can start with, it can get the creative juices flowing. I always do that when I'm stuck.

And just in case you have trouble driving a fantasy story, I like to think fantasy is something the mind can come up with at complete random. It may not make a whole ton of sense at first, but it'll develop along with your characters if you just ask "what if" or "how come" or "can this happen" questions to drive the fantasy rules of your world.

Okay thanks! And yeah when I have ideas for my fantasy stories sometimes I am just sitting down or exersizing.

My middle name is Brooke!

Anyway, does anyone on here have a Wattpad account? Because that is just the BEST WEBSITE EVERRRRR!!!!

I write fanfics, fantasy, adventure, etc. But my main problem is coming up with all these ideas, but never going through with them. Right now, I am writing a story with somefriends for a school project called The Secrets of Winterlight. It's about five kids: Jamie, Joey, Kennedy, Cameron, and Emma. They find this maze under their school, and in it is this orb called the Olethron (Greek for destruction). The five have to overcome challenges throughout the maze and get a hold of the orb, then defeat the bad guy, etc. We each made up our own character (I made up Joey, because I figured if I didn't, the guy involved would have the only male character. The rest of us are girls.). It is actually very fun.

I've heard of Wattpad but I don't have an account. I'm kind of paranoid about posting my writing online because I don't want anyone to steal it. But I've been considering getting an account on something for fanfiction, which I write way too much of... :P

That story sounds cool! I've never done a collaborative project before like that, but it sounds fun! So do you like take turns writing different chapters and brainstorm the plot together or something like that? Or is it more like a RP where you all kind of collaborate on the writing too? (I've had characters named Jamie and Emma too!)

WATTPAD IS MY LIFE, YES, YOU SHOULD GET ONE!!!

Well it started out with each of us writing a chapter for our character, but then the creators of Cameron and Emma dropped out of it (IDK why). So now we all work on each other's chapters and talk about what should happen next, etc. Does that make sense? The creator of Jamie and I actually came up with the plot because we are into writing the most.

Haha, okay I'll look more into it. I'd only post fanfic though probably.

Okay, yeah that makes sense. So it really is a collaborative effort, that's really cool! I tried to do that with a friend once but it's hard for me because I like to be in control of all the characters and plot and stuff, haha! I get reeeeallly super attached to my characters! That's also why I tend to have trouble with RP, it's very different from writing imo...

I only post FanFic, but I'm probably going to post The Secrets of Winterlight on there when it's done. If you are interested, my Wattpad account is @abrookes.

I got attached to the characters and plot line as well, but it didn't affect anything, soooooo.

Cool, thanks, I'll check it out! I'll let you know mine if I decide to make one.

What do you mean?

Yay!

I meant that I also get closely attached to my characters, but so did the others working on the story. It didn't affect the story, though. That make sense?

Oh okay. I tend to obsess over my writing all the time to the point where I'd rather write silly little one shot stories about my characters than actually work on the book itself...

I don't have a Wattpad account and I never heard of it till now.

Yes, I tend to run into that as well.

Wattpad is a website for writers to write their own stories and read others' stories as well. People can comment and vote on your stories. It's really helped me become a better writer. They also have a contest called the Watty's. I've never entered it, so I can't tell you much about it. But I think every writer should get on there. It is my favorite website. You get to meet lots of new people who are interested in the same things, read great books, and get feedback on your stories without being face-to-face with them. I recommend it to everyone in the entire world.

I've just been doing a bunch of research about Wattpad and it looks really cool but I'm still not sure if I should get an account... mainly because a) can't people steal your writing? and b) since I have a completed book I'd like to get published for real someday, wouldn't publishing it on wattpad make that impossible?

Well, I went ahead and made an account! I'm gonna kinda get an idea of how it works before I think about maybe posting some stuff, but it seems pretty cool..

There is actually a book called My Wattpad Love that was published from there. Publishers actually saw it on there and asked her if she wanted it published. It actually gives you a higher chance, I think.

I'm actually hoping my school project gets published through there. Will you tell me your username?
