Cruise Meet - FANTASY 8/1/15 - Let the planning begin!

When someone else decides they are going to join in on the fun please PM me! That way I will know we have others to chat with....until then I will plan on ZERO lines for the Aquaduck! SOUNDS LIKE FUN TO ME!!!

Odd, I thought I had posted this last night. At any rate...

We are joining you on the Fantasy on the 8/1 sailing. We are first time cruisers. I am especially looking to connect with anyone else with a 14 year old boy in their group. DS13 (will be 14 in January) is unconvinced that he will have fun. Would love to be able to prep him with info on others who are sailing with us.

In our group is me, DH, DD18 and DS14.

Fun! My immediate family of 5 will be at the time of the sailing- DH, DS (19), DD 15 and DD 6. We have been on several Disney cruises (our last was a 12 night in Europe last summer) and we always have a terrific trip! We have also invited my in laws which will include my MIL and Sister in law + her husband and 3 kids (DS 12, DD 19, DD 20). They haven't cruised before so they are in for a real treat.

The reason we keep coming back to Disney is that there really is something for everyone to enjoy on the ships. With and age span like ours that can be a hard task to accomplish. DS likes to work out at the gym & basketball court during the day and he usually hangs with us at the shows in the evenings. DD's both love the clubs in the evenings.

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

We are looking forward to this cruise. It will be an opportunity for our DD to celebrate her 8th birthday. We are surprising our now 7yo and 20yo with this cruise as their Christmas gift. Our 20yo has only cruised Carnival. She didn't want to go with us last year. :)

This will be our 3rd cruise and we are looking forward to it!!!

Me, my husband and 9yr old daughter will be on this cruise. This is the first time cruise for my husband and my daughter. I've cruise on Carnival once before. So were all newbies for the most part.
I keep hearing about the fish extenders and was wondering if anyone on this cruise is participating and if so how do I get in on that. :cheer2:

Is this the forum where we sign up for the fish extender? I am a first time Disney cruiser. My family and I are super excited!

Welcome to the group! There is a ton of info on this site and if this is your first Disney cruise you will be so far ahead of the game by reading a the tips and tricks from those who have cruised before you.

YES this is the place where we will sign up for a FE group. We will want to get more people active in here with us before we start those sign ups. I am honestly SHOCKED that there aren't more people active in this board. In the past I have been a quieter member of the cruise groups and when I have come a long there have been dozens for folks chatting for months already.

Our family of 5 has two girls 6 and 10 from southern California. We are ready to have fun and meet new friends. We would also like to sign up for fish extender. We are located on deck 10.

Hi there - we are from So Cal too and my youngest daughter is 6. Welcome to the group!

We are in the process of changing an on-board booking from a Baltics cruise (sad day but can't make the schedule and international travel work!) to this cruise. This will be our 5th Disney cruise, 2nd time on the Fantasy on this same itinerary (we were on the Fantasy for her inaugural season, the 4th sailing). Previously sailed Disney to Mexican Riviera (Wonder), Bahamas (Magic - refurbished with Aqua Dunk) and Alaska (Wonder). Our kids are DS 20 (college boy!), DS 14 and DD 12 (at time of sailing).

Daneenm, if you are still on this cruise and our plans hold we will also have a 14 year old boy who has had a great time on all our cruises. In fact, we just finished a week in Disney World and his first response was when is the next cruise! The Fantasy is especially great for his age with Aqua Duck and newer club. The newer bells and whistles did work better with my boys than the older ships.

For us, the challenge will be with my daughter. She loved the newer kids clubs on the Fantasy, but she was 9 then. This will be her first time for Edge - I am guessing she will be ok with it because her brother will be there but we will see.

This is fantastic, Kevin! Our son will be thrilled to know that there will be another boy his age (I'm sure there will be many, but one that he knows of). As we get closer, perhaps we can connect them via email for an introduction.

My husband and I are super excited to take our 3 yearold (at time of sail) on the cruise. I would love to know more about the Disnery Fish extenders. I am in the progress of booking the cruise now for August 1-8. Any tips for s newbie? Any tips on the travel agent with the best perks? So far the best one I have found is $250 on board credit. Any tips on which room is the best...trying to decide if a veranda is necessary. My husband and I thought that we would be stuck in the room when he goes to sleep. The Disney personnel on the phone assured me that he would do great in the kids club area. What do they do when kids want to go to sleep? Is that when they call you on the wave phone? Need advice:)

Thanks inadvance.:goodvibes:cool1::cheer2:pixiedust:

... I would love to know more about the Disnery Fish extenders. ...

Cruise Meet threads are doing just fine still managing meet and FE discussions right here on the DIS where FE began years ago.

FE organizers generally need to know how many people (adults/children) are participating in each cabin. Other information you would like to share such as first names, ages of child participants, allergies, favorite characters, etc. is up to you. Other personal information is not really necessary. Those organizing FEs typically ask for the information to be posted in the meet thread or sent to them via PM.

For those posting in this Cruise Meet thread to join a FE, there is plenty of time to organize a FE for this cruise here on the DIS, and it looks like someone intends to start the FE right in this thread.

All it takes is for someone to maintain a list of/for those participating which can easily be done in this thread. Cruise Meet threads have been doing it this way for years now here on the DIS.

The best tip is to leverage these boards! I learned so much from so many helpful folks on these boards when I booked my first cruise. It can seem overwhelming, but there is plenty of help here if you need it. A travel agent is good to help as well. I don't know who has the best perks, but we have used Dreams Unlimited who sponsor these boards and have been happy with them. But I am sure there are other good ones out there too.

For rooms, it really comes down to (1) personal preference and (2) budget. Keep in mind you do spend very little active time in the room, though you may also have to factor in nap times! We prefer a veranda as I love having moments where I can just pop outside and enjoy the fresh air or a view without having to leave my room to do it. And I love sitting and having a cup of coffee in the morning too. That said, I admit a veranda was much more of a necessity on our Alaskan cruise where there was so much to see than on the Caribbean cruises. Once you see the ocean, well, its still just an ocean! With a younger child and naps, it could be harder to darken a room with a veranda during the day - but will leave that to folks with younger kids to comment since my youngest was 7 when we first cruised.

Another thing to keep in mind for location is that supposedly the rooms in the middle of the ship have less yaw, pitch and roll - so some find it better if you are prone to sea sickness. For us, a more important factor has always been proximity to stairs. Of all our cruises, I always found the rooms a few down from the forward stairs to be the best - makes it easy to pop down for the shows and always seemed less crowded then the mid-ship elevators.

Hope it helps some,
Kevin
