I used the junior size. Two hours later they started falling off. Pretty frustrated. I followed the directions using the hair dryer to warm them but something must have gone wrong.

Sorry to hear that. Did you clean the nails first, with rubbing alcohol or a cleaning wipe? If not, the natural oils/soap residue will certainly prevent them from bonding. It sucks, to have wasted the jams and $$. :( sorry!

I cleaned them with rubbing alcohol. The only thing I can think of is maybe there was a small bit of cuticle under the jamberry wrap when I applied it? That is my only guess.

- Alex and Ani bracelets
- Sephora makeup palette
- A Squishable
- Nintendo 3DS and some games (a lot of girls really like the Pokemon games- I know I do!)
- UGG boots
- Merchandise from her favorite band (One Direction has A LOT of this)

I've heard kids nails are oilier than adult so washing with Dawn dish soap before applying sometimes will help too. Also, the wraps aren't supposed to cover the entire nail. There is supposed to be a sliver of nail all around the wrap since the adhesive works on the nail not the cuticle, so any cuticle under the wrap will cause it to not get a good stick.

I'm sure your consultant already told you all this and offered their tips and tricks for getting a good seal. Everyone's nails are different so there are tons of ways to make the best of Jams, sometimes it's trial and error, though.

Can anyone recommend a good book or series? My DD (11) loves to read. She has already read all the Kingdom Keepers, Percy Jackson & also the Hunger games. I'm always afraid of the subject matter in some books. I finally gave in to the Hunger games & she loved it. Anything else that is good & appropriate? Tx!

My dd is 12 and I always feel challenged to find books that are appropriate for her reading level. I read a lot of young adult so here are my suggestions (I have read all of these myself).

Maze Runner Series
The False Prince Series
The Giver
Divergent Series (dh read this series and said there was only violence like hunger games)

Also, American Girl has a great short series called "A Smart Girl's Guide to." Those are pretty awesome but definitely short.

It's sad a few years ago when I was like....24 I wanted a crayon maker and an air brush set from crayola....

anyways as for books I'm a fan of young adult books. I enjoy anything from Meg Cabot who has a few series out that I think would be okay like the Princess Diaries series, Avalon High, and a few others that I'm spacing on now. I'd stay away from the chick lit such as babble queen, even I got bored with that. cinda williams chima the heir chronicles are pretty good. I've been meaning to check out Gallagher Girls where teen age girls go to school to learn how to be spies but haven't had the chance. If I was you I'd pick out her favorite books, go to amazon and see what other users bought. I found a mystery series of Jane Austen novels that I never knew existed until then.

Also Avon does the nail wraps too but they're not as cutesy as the jamberry nails. The dollar stores around here have the nails too so I'd learn with those and once a pro use the jamberry nails.

Thank you! It's sad that I am ok with the violence! Lol. It's better than some other subject matter!

Thank you to the others that recommended books as well!

I'm completely with you. I can handle violence and war but if the characters go anywhere past kissing I'm not comfortable letting my 12 year old read it.

She told me about a book another girl was reading at school and asked me to request it from the library. Oh my stars! It was so inappropriate!

DD read the Divergent series and really enjoyed it. I try to read things like that first just to see. I finally gave in on Hunger Games and she's reading it now.

I read the Giver series and really enjoyed that and have been trying to get DD to read it, but its on her Kindle and she prefers to read actual books. Same with the Maze Runner. That was a pretty good book too but I haven't finished that series yet.

I read If I stay and Where She went earlier this year and enjoyed them and DD wants to read those too.

Right now I'm reading the Harry Potter series. I put it off forever because I just didn't think it appealed to me but after DD read the first book I decided to give it a try and I've really enjoyed them so far. I'm on the 5th book right now and I'm hoping to finish the series up this month. DD read the first one and started the second but hasn't gone back to it.

DD read The Fault in our Stars over the summer and loved it. But that's one to read first and decide for yourself.

The Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld is pretty good. It lead to great discussions between my dds 11 &13 and myself about self image, appearance and acceptance. It is also a great adventure. Some other good ones are The Virals series by Kathy Reichs and on Kindle only the Ripple Trilogy by Cidney Swanson.

I really enjoyed Meg Cabot books but they often do include or allude to more than kissing. Princess diaries series is a bit more inappropriate than the movie. Off the top of my head, a subplot on one of the books was Mia deciding to go all the way with her boyfriend, after he told her he wouldn't pressure her but wouldn't wait around forever either. So just things to keep in mind!

When I was 12/13 I really liked the clique series (this was 10 years ago) but I also started reading classics like Pride and Prejudice and Wuthering Heights when I was 13.

How do you know what's in the books she reads?

If this was on the teen board, I wouldn't think anything of it but tween- come on! I know 12 is borderline, but don't you monitor things that your kids are exposed to? Books don't come with ratings like movies.

I hate to admit that I don't have a clue what my kids are reading. They love to read and go through books so fast, I could never keep up. My son comes home with a new book everyday. I did tell him I didn't want him reading the Twilight series... not because I read them, but because I saw previews for the movies and knew that he was too young for that stuff. I thank my lucky stars for our outstanding school librarian. She knows what my kids like to read and always makes excellent suggestions for them.

Like someone said above... it's pretty sad that I'm ok with books/movies/television with violence in it. But, I do try to keep them away from the sexual stuff. Video games, however, are where I draw the line on violence. We only have a Wii and the games are sports or Disney or dancing.

I just found out that Taylor Swift will be performing in our area on her next tour. Tickets go on sale December 5, so that is one of the things DD will get for xmas. Too bad she'll have to wait another 9 months for the concert.

Just wondering how you do it....

No, I don't monitor what my 12 year old reads. Between my 12 and 15 year old they read 8-10 books a week.

At 12, my reading wasn't monitored and I was reading the bodice ripping romance style books that were extremely graphic. I sneaked them off my mom's book shelf. As fast as I read, she didn't have time to miss them.

My point was that I can't believe you would challenge another parent about whether they monitor books their kids read on the tween gift board. :confused3

Actually, my reading speed is really high but I don't read most of the books my 13 year old reads. I did ask my DD to look at her books on a regular when she started reading avidly. I didn't act like it was a police raid, we just had lovely conversations that started with "What are you reading now?" and "That looks cool, can I see it?" We still have those conversations and I've enjoy reading some of her books.

I am taping an Amazon gift card to a case of Dr. Pepper for Christmas for her and am considering signing her up for a book a month mailing program.

The web site common sense media dot org is a great resource to give insight on book contents, as well as other media types. Gives a brief overview of content and a recommended age. I read what it has to say and make a judgment call appropriate for my child. If I feel its appropriate for my DD, I let her read it, even if the age recommendation is slightly older, based on her academic level and maturity level. It's very user friendly and easy to search for what you are looking for.
