Disney Cruise Brides!!! Part Deux!!

Hey Brides :goodvibes

I had a quick question has anyone ever heard of Wedding Mix I guess it is a diy wedding video app?? I just wanted to see if anyone has used them before or know of anyone who has and what kind of experience they had with it? 99.00 for a video is great but I wonder how good it will look? any tips or suggestions on wedding videography at sea would be much appreciated!

Hello DCL brides. I was wondering if you could post links to your favorite completed PJ's on disboards. I loved Lisa Reese's and Jillian's and Ginger's. Which ones gave you the most inside info and inspiration?

You guys have all helped me so much! I'm in very early stages of planning. I have a few questions for you all.

1. What is the deal with the private room at the royal palace? Do any other main dining restaurants have private rooms? What about table 83, what is special about that?

2. How many people can sit at a table together? If we do can't split up are we close enough to have conversation?

3. What other extras can I add to my wedding? I read about having characters at your reception are there any other fun things I can do? Extra desserts or drinks maybe too.

4. Who knows a photographer that took all the photos for the price of their cruise?

5. Can someone show me examples of their newsletter or the itinerary they sent guests with information on it?

6. What is special about pirate night? If we are in the private room at the royal palace that night will we miss anything?

7. Any advice for kid care? At night is it appropriate for the baby to be sleeping in the room with a monitor if we wanted to go out late. Are the day cares open that late? Is there supervision for all ages? I will have a five year old and an infant.

8. Benefits to late vs main dining. I read that at late dining they serve the kids first and then a counselor picks them up and takes them to their clubs. Will we miss fireworks or pirate party?

9. Any secrets tips or advice of what do to or see?

Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

I went ahead and answered your questions hope it helps!!!

1. What is the deal with the private room at the royal palace? Do any other main dining restaurants have private rooms? What about table 83, what is special about that?

The private room in royal palace is not so much a room as a separated area it looks out into the hallway but has a wall separating from the rest of the room however if you have a large party some of your guest will be on the other side

2. How many people can sit at a table together? If we do can't split up are we close enough to have conversation?

The wedding coordinator will send you a list of how many tables you get depending on your wedding party size 30 days out ex. You might get 2 6 tops 1 8 top a four top and then you fill out who you want where :)

3. What other extras can I add to my wedding? I read about having characters at your reception are there any other fun things I can do? Extra desserts or drinks maybe too.
I have heard of some people doing a dessert party at WDW or special events on the boat but I am not sure on all the details on this one for my wedding I am just having a separate gift table that I am decorating and I am also putting little items on the tables the night of the wedding!

4. Who knows a photographer that took all the photos for the price of their cruise?

My photographer did however I know she now has a small service fee her name is Collette Mruk she really is great I would check out her website and get a quote a photographer was the biggest thing to me pictures were the most important

5. Can someone show me examples of their newsletter or the itinerary they sent guests with information on it?
If you check out my PJ I just posted about my newsletter the link is in my signature!

6. What is special about pirate night? If we are in the private room at the royal palace that night will we miss anything?
Every room decorates for pirate night its really fun they do a special menu people dress up and they have a fun show at night its really awesome!

7. Any advice for kid care? At night is it appropriate for the baby to be sleeping in the room with a monitor if we wanted to go out late. Are the day cares open that late? Is there supervision for all ages? I will have a five year old and an infant.
I don’t have children so I am not sure but I do know people love the day cares! And they go through all ages if you go on disneys website it should say what type of nursery’s they have

8. Benefits to late vs main dining. I read that at late dining they serve the kids first and then a counselor picks them up and takes them to their clubs. Will we miss fireworks or pirate party?
I always do late night dining it’s the best especially because if you want to be out late at a port where the boat boards at 6 you don’t have to worry about rushing for dinner and then I prefer the early show less children and less kids at dinner and yes they do pick up kids first I sat a table with a few young ones and they came and got them very early in dinner!

9. Any secrets tips or advice of what do to or see?
Depends on the boat you are on for tips! but a big one if you are going with kids Or anytime really lol is make sure they bring a memorable (shirt, frame, scrapbook page, etc.) and drop it off at guest services the first day and then the last day of the cruise you can pick it back up with all the characters signatures and this way you don’t have to hunt characters down!

Thanks for the advice Melissa! And well deserved feature of your engagement pictures, they're gorgeous!

Just wanted to update that we had our wedding on the Dream, November 7-10. It was amazing! The coordinators were fantastic. There was a last minute emergency that made it so my photographer couldn't come and we had to use the ship services. I was pleasantly surprised by how good our photos turned out. I will try and post a trip report!

Thanks!

Pre-Trip

I work nights as an RN and my last night was the 4th, getting off the morning of the 5th. The next 2 days were crazy busy. We had decided a week before that we really needed to paint the kitchen and living room right before the wedding (stupid, I know). So, the house was a disaster. A bunch of family was coming into town and we were trying to organize who would pick-up who and who would take what car ect. It was a little concerning that up to the day before, I was getting calls from the shore-side coordinator with last minute changes and questions that I had already spoken to her multiple times about. I friend of our had made custom magnets for the stateroom doors with the schedule of events including times and location on the ship. The day before we left, I got a call saying that my welcome reception had been moved from Skyline to Evolution. I explained that I had already had Skyline printed on custom magnets. Eventually, I was told that they would send a card to each stateroom notifying guests of the change. This did not seem like a good start, but my family and fiance encouraged me to let it go and not stress. At least the bars were right next to each other so I figured that people wouldn't get too lost.

Then, the most stressful thing happened. My fiance's brother's wife (my future sister-in-law) is an AMAZING professional photographer and she had planned to take our photos as a wedding present. The day before we left, my fiance's brother had a medical emergency and there was no question that she had to stay behind with him, especially as there would be no one else there to take care of him, as they would all be at the wedding. Needless to say, I had a bit of a meltdown. We were both stressed because we were worried about Matt's brother and how our wedding would turn out. I have heard some not so great things about the Disney photographers and I was so scared that they would be horrible. I called the port side coordinator and they were helpful in reserving a last minute Disney photographer. Again, I had to tell myself that there was nothing I could do about it and that it would all be fine. We packed late into the night and due to nerves, I only slept about 3 hours...

November 7th, Legal Ceremony Day

So after my on and off sleep the night before, I got up around 8am. I finished packing and double and triple checked all of the extra wedding items that we had to bring. Our bride/groom Mickey ears, marriage license, wedding rings, dress and accessories, magnets for stateroom doors, gifts for my mom and fiance's mom, gift for our officiant, our wedding confirmation document, wedding CD, and the list of guests with room numbers. My fiance, as usual, had not started packing and hadn't finished his vows. Que nervous bride lecture. My future sister-in-law drove us to the port at around 11:15 and we arrived at noon. She dropped us off in front and we checked 2 bags.

I carried on my dress and purse while my fiance took the camera bag. We arrived at the same time as my fiance's parents and walked in with them. Check-in was pretty uneventful although it was strange that the people who got into the regular line made it through check-in before us when we were in the concierge line. We did get a card at check-in asking us to meet our wedding coordinators (yes coordinators, two!) at guest services at 3pm. This made me a little nervous because I was already scared that we wouldn't have enough time to go over everything and have the legal ceremony and now this would be cut even shorter by meeting at guest services. But, since there was nothing I could do, I just went with it. We boarded the beautiful Disney Dream and were announced as the "Boucher Family"! I immediately went to guest services to drop off my dress. Everyone was so nice. When the cast member behind the desk saw me come up with my desk she didn't ask any questions and put her arms out to take it for me. We also used this time to confirm that the list of stateroom numbers were correct. By then it was about 1:15. We met some of our guests in the atrium and chatted for a few minutes. Then we headed to deck 9 where we waited about 10 minutes for the staterooms to open. Our stateroom was 9162 which is a category 8B. On our 2 previous cruises we had a verandah, but since we knew we would be super busy, we went for a less expensive room with the large porthole. The room was beautiful as usual and we had a bunch of other surprises. On the bed, there was a silver castaway beach bag for being returning cruisers We also had a drawstring Disney Wedding bag with 2 huge beach towels, a plate of chocolate covered strawberries, and a big fruit bowl.

We were so excited but had to head back out right away to deliver our magnets. It was so fun to walk around with our wedding ears on because almost everyone smiled and congratulated us. We took it deck by deck and amazingly, we didn't run into any of our guests. However, when we were walking down one of the hallways, we passed 2 crew members, and then heard "Matthew and Kathryn?". It turns out that they were our wedding coordinators. Meg and Maryke introduced themselves. They were both from South Africa. We were so lucky to have 2 coordinates because Meg was about to go on vacation and she was orienting Maryke, who was just starting. They were on their way to personally deliver invitations for our welcome reception to our guests. We confirmed that we were to meet them at 3pm in front of guest services and then were on our way again. Once we finished our deliveries, we had planned to get some lunch, but by that time it was 2:30 and I wanted to freshen up a bit before the legal ceremony. We ended up heading back to the room and snacking on some fruit. We also took this time to snap a few pictures of our room and special gifts. We got to guest services around 2:50 and met my mom, her boyfriend, and my fiances parents. Meg and Maryke (I think I'll call them M&M from now on) arrived with the notary and escorted us up to Outlook. My fiances brother, his girlfriend, and daughter (our flower girl) were waiting there for us. We stood in one of the little alcoves for the ceremony. It was very short and simple but literally, as soon as she started, I was tearing up. My lip was trembling and I barely kept it together. I kept thinking, "if I'm this bad during the small ceremony, how am I going to make it through tomorrow when I'm reading my vows!?" Before I knew it we were married!

My mom and my fiance's..oops husband's mom signed the marriage certificate. Everyone left and we sat down with M&M to go over everything. I was really impressed with how detailed and organized they were. They went though everything that would be happening in the next few days. They had already made sure that the wedding favors we had shipped had made it to Evolution, where the welcome reception would be. I asked them to take them out of the boxes and put them on a table so that we could give them out. They assured me that this would not be a problem. I also asked for a table where we could display the decorative board we had brought for everyone to sign like a guest book. We also discussed the photography. Originally, when I had planned on bringing an outside photographer, we were going to do a first look before the ceremony. I was concerned that we would not have enough time after the reception to take family/group pictures and pictures of just the 2 of us and not be rushed. They were not sure that this could happen, but said they would look into it. They let me know about an hour later that this would be fine and scheduled an extra hour of photography before the ceremony. We also went over all of the additional floral we had requested. My bouquet (rose and orchid), the groom's boutonniere, a wrist corsage for my mom and mother of the groom, and orchid leis for the groom, officiant, and brothers. There was now one additional leis since one of Matt's brothers couldn't make it and we assigned it to go to Matt's friend. The whole meeting took up much less time than I thought. The one problem we found was that my salon appointment time was wrong and since my mom had signed up at the same time as me, they were both wrong. After the meeting, M&M personally escorted us to the salon. We moved my hair appointment and my mom's pedicure to noon. We were told that there was one more hair appointment slot for that time and so we immediately snagged it for Matt's mom. We said goodbye to M&M and headed to the muster drill.

After the muster drill, we had about an hour before the welcome reception and ran into a group of our friends. A good trick to get to the sail-away party while avoiding the crazy crowds after the drill is to go down one deck and then take an elevator up to the pool deck. The pool deck was pretty busy so a bunch of people from our party headed up to Currents to watch as we left port. Matt and I went over to Evolution about 15 minutes early and everything was already set up. Our favors consisted of a beach bag, beach towel, little sunscreen bottles, and nautical bracelets for the ladies. We gave M&M the guest board and sharpies and they set it up on a table. All of the appetizers that we had chosen were displayed, buffet style, at one end of the room. Soon everyone stated arriving. All of the appetizers were delicious and there was plenty for everyone. We made sure to spread the word that drinks were free for one hour and I would say that our party used the time wisely! Matt and I made sure to make rounds and talk to everyone. M&M stayed the entire time to ensure everything went well and no one who was not in our party came in. They also spoke to everyone and asked for them to sign the guest board and took care of my request to turn the music up a little. After the hour was over they helped us organize everyone for a group picture and then Matt and I made sure to get a picture with them! I had my flower girl and the daughter of one of our guests help me had out our favors. I told M&M that I knew you could take something to guests services and that they would have all of the characters sign it. I was delighted that M&M said, not to worry at all. They took the board, had it signed, and got it back the next day to display at our ceremony! Before I knew it, the welcome reception was over. I did not get many pictures from the reception because I was so busy enjoying it but, here are a few.

Here is our guest board. This is actually from the ceremony (after the characters had signed it) because I didn't get a picture earlier

I had an appointment for 7 pm at the salon to meet my stylist and talk about how I wanted my hair. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the stylists name, but she was very good. She seemed very knowledgeable and said that the example pictures I brought her were completely doable. She instructed me to wash and dry my hair but to only condition the ends and not the roots. After that, Matt and I met our officiant in our room to quickly go over the schedule for next day including the ceremony. We also gave him his gift which was an engraved pocket watch. Soon, it was time for our 8:15 dinner. As you can tell by now, we hardly had any down-time during the cruise. It was so much fun, but extremely exhausting. Our first restaurant was Enchanted Garden. When we walked in one of the waiters shouted "Bride and Groom in the house!" and all of the waiters cheered and clapped. One waiter led us to our table. Prior to leaving, the shore-side coordinator had emailed us about table assignments. We were given two 8 tops and four 4 tops and emailed her back with the assignments. In each restaurant, the tables were always pretty close together and we could easily get to each table to talk to our guests. All of our servers were OK, but not fantastic. The food each night was very good and I did not hear many complaints. During dinner the wedding photographer that we had been assigned came over to meet us Her name was Allyssa. She was very sweet and I explained how I wanted to do a first look and then take pictures around the ship. We planned for her to meet Matt at 4:30 in front of guest services and then once she got him set up, she would call me. I was impressed that she seemed pretty organized and I could tell that she had done some weddings on the ship before.

The rest of dinner was pretty emotional. My dad passed away about 10 years ago and so at dinner my mom made a toast about how proud she was and how she knew that my dad would be too. Between the emotion and the wine, she broke down and started sobbing right in the middle of dinner. I got up and hugged her but this made me pretty emotional for the rest of dinner. I had planned on going to "Match Your Mate", but by the time dinner was over, I was physically and emotionally exhausted. Matt decided to meet some of his friends for cigars at Meridian and wanted me to come, but I needed sleep! It was so nice to go back to my beautiful room take a nice hot shower (without conditioner) and climb into bed. Matt came back right before I fell asleep and we dozed off while watching Brave.

CaliMermaid,

Yes, I am happy that we did the welcome reception. The whole thing felt really special! I thought that the appetizers were good and there was plenty for everyone! The space was perfect and the bartenders worked their butts off because our guests were ordering like crazy! The total for the reception which included an open bar (although they couldn't have the top shelf stuff), 5 different appetizers, and chocolate covered strawberries was $830 and then we tipped the bartenders $40. Remember, the tip is already included in the price, we just decided to tip a bit extra.

Yay! Kat, I'm glad to hear Day 1 was so terrific. And thank you for providing so much detail--it helps knowing how you organized your day. I have contacted my coordinator and asked for a welcome party. We stayed a few doors down from your room back in September and loved it. I also really like your autograph board. Can't wait for the next episode!

Ashley

Thanks Ashley! Glad you are enjoying the updates. How exciting that you decided to have the welcome reception! I hope it goes just as well for you as it did for me.

I know many DCL Brides wonder about the table arrangements so I thought I would make a specific post about how mine was set up. As it seems to be a theme with me, I forgot to get a good picture of the table layouts. Here is a picture that a friend snapped in Enchanted Garden.

As you can see, the table in the picture is one of our 8 tops. The other 8 top (which is where Matt and I sat) was parallel to this table and directly to the right (you can see the back of one of the chairs). To the left, you can see the guy in the blue/green shirt at our first 4 top. The second 4 top was to the left of their table. Actually these 2 tables were so close that it was almost another 8 top. Then if you look in the back of the picture for the guy in the pink shirt, that was out third 4 top. The last 4 top was directly to the right of that. The last 4 top ended up being empty sometimes. When we made that table assignments, we sat my mom, her boyfriend, and Matt's parents at our table. This left 2 open spots. We decided that it would cause too much drama to place another couple there and make it seem like we liked them better or whatever. The plan was that we would have extra room for people to rotate and sit with us on different nights This worked out pretty well. Since one of Matt's brothers and his wife were unable to make it, this left our officiant and his wife at a 4 top by themselves. Sometimes they joined us at our table and sometimes they enjoyed dinner with just the 2 of them. Other nights my brother sat with us. On the last night, Matt's other brother and his fiance went to Palo and so his daughter (our flower girl) joined our table. It didn't seem like we were in any secluded part of any of the dining rooms like some other brides had mentioned. In each room the arrangement of the tables was similar to Enchanted Garden. The tables were pretty close together and we didn't have any tables between us that weren't a part of our party. They were close enough that we could talk some, although not a lot, since you would have to yell a bit. Matt and I made a point of getting up to visit each table every night after we ordered and were waiting for our food to arrive.

November 8th, 2014 - Wedding Day!

When I first went to bed, I slept really well for about 3 hours. After that I was awake and couldn't go back to sleep. I decided to take a walk around the pool deck around 6AM It is amazing how many employees are out at this time cleaning! I got back to the room about 30 minutes later and fell asleep. Matt and I both woke around 9AM. We got ready and had lunch together at Cabanas (the eggs Benedict is really good!). We had made magnets for all of our guests with the schedule of events for he whole cruise. The day of the wedding we had planned to have the guys and girls get together separately at 11AM. The ladies went to Cove Cafe for coffee and the guys went to Currents for Drinks. Matt dropped me off at Cove Cafe and we didn't plan on seeing each other again until the first look at 4:30 pm. The little meeting was nice and I think everyone had a good time. Originally I wanted for the ladies to go to lunch together but then I realized that the restaurants don't open for lunch until noon which was the same time as my hair appointment. What I completely failed to realize is that Cove Cafe and Currents are both adults only. This made it difficult for some of our guests with kids to come. Aside from this, it worked out pretty well. Here is a picture of the guys get-together...

So I was sitting there enjoying my coffee when I realized it was 11:57! We rushed to cash out and my mom, Matt's mom and I headed over to the salon which is luckily really close. Matt's mom got a wash, cut and style, my mom got a pedicure, and I got an up-do. I had never been in the salon before and was worried that the pedicure area would be too far away from the hair area for my mom to interact with us. I was happy to see that the areas are very close and the 3 of us ended up being the only ones in the salon. I had asked for my hair cured in kind of a big messy bun. I specified that I didn't want it pulled tight and I wanted it down low. For the most part, she did what I asked although I wish she would have kept the bun lower so it rested against my neck. I made a mistake when signing the bill. I didn't realize the tip had been automatically added already so I ended up tipping another 20% on top of the 18% and didn't realize this until I looked at the bill again in my room. Oh well! My bouquet and Matt's leis and boutonniere had already been delivered when I arrived back at my room. I was IN LOVE with my bouquet. It was gorgeous and absolutely perfect! I had a nice time relaxing by myself in my room for about an hour. My friend Jessica arrived at 2:30 pm to help me with my make-up. I had heard that they will do your make-up on board if you ask, even though it isn't listed as one of their services. My hair stylist confirmed that this is true. They will do your make-up, but you have to bring your own make-up and brushes. I would have done this if I had known for sure, but I thought it would be really rude to cancel on my friend now. It all worked out for the best as she did a great job. It was really natural and simple, just how I wanted it. After this I called Matt. His clothing and all of his toiletries were still in the room. He said he was coming down to get it. When he knocked, I went into the bathroom and Jessica let Matt is. Unfortunately, I forgot that the light switch is OUTSIDE of the bathroom. So there I was, standing in a pitch black bathroom. I waited and waited. Matt was just chatting away with Jessica. Eventually I was over it and just came out. At least I wasn't in my dress yet. I helped him get all of his things together and warned him that he was not allowed back in! Matt and Jessica left and another friend arrived to help me get in my dress. She snapped a few quick pictures of me before I left for the first look.

Soon after Matt called. He was on the stair case and Allyssa, the photographer, was going to meet me at Shutters. I had already given Matt instructions that I wanted to do the first look on the staircase but I didn't want the photographer to be shooting up at us. I am a big girl already and that angle is just not flattering. It was so weird walking through the ship by myself in my wedding dress. On the way, I passed through the district where there was some activity going on. Everyone looked as I walked past and smiled. After I dashed by I heard the crew member on stage say into the microphone "there goes a runaway bride!". Allyssa was waiting for me when I got to shutters. She lead me to the top of the staircase. Matt was waiting about half-way down with his back to me. Just as I was about to walk down the steps, the lace jacket that I was wearing got caught in the beading of my dress This happened many times during the rest of the day! Lace and beading don't mix! A nice lady who I had never met ran over to help and I headed down the stairs to Matt. All my nerves went away when Matt turned around. He looked so nice in him Tommy Bahamas shirt and linen pants. He was sweating bullets and had stashed a towel in his back pocket. He told me later that he was so nervous already and then it got worse when he was waiting on the stairs and everyone in the atrium was watching! After this, we headed around the ship to take pictures. Allyssa was great We didn't have too many ideas of where we wanted to take pictures except that we knew we wanted pictures in front of the smoke stacks. She lead us around the ship and directed us. The following pictures are all from that hour before the ceremony...

I had a locket made with a picture of me and my dad which I wrapped around my bouquet.
