A Week of Om Nom Noms! - Sept. 2014 Dining Report (w/ F&W) - COMPLETED

Elevationist, I am LOVING your dining reviews! You are such a fun writer, and your pictures are making me super hungry. I was perusing that "Food Pictures part IV" thread and found your food review from your signature, and I'm glad I stumbled on it! :goodvibes

I had these grand plans of going to bed an hour ago but alas, great Disney food pics always get me!

I don't even eat red meat, and gosh all the steak and pork dishes look fabulous! ::yes::

I'm curious, did you like the chicken dish from Italy at F&W?

Can't wait for your review to continue. It makes me hopeful because for some reason I was really underwhelmed with the food during my trip last year and I'm a big foodie.

Cheers! :)

Just figured out how to reply on my phone!! Thank you for this trip of food. Trying to figure out places to eat, this will help!!

I am SO loving your dining report! your pics are terrific and i love your sense of humor. thanks for the closeup pic of the mac and cheese dog, it is something i want to try. thanks also for the great F & W pics. we haven't been able to go in the Fall since about 12 yrs ago (I always go with my DSis who works in a school system, so only can go during school vacs) and I MISS it! but luckily they started having food kiosks at the Flower & Garden Festival in the Spring and we love that. cant wait to read the rest of your report! Hope you liked Tusker House as much as we do.

Your right on target with the scallops at RR, they are the best that have ever hit my mouth! Also love the Elsa cupcake, it is so cute I would hate to eat it :lmao:

Truffle is a very unique taste that is hard to describe, but if it was there in quantity you would have noticed something "different." You should try it sometime. Its one of lives great pleasures.
It's something I've always wanted to familiarize myself with more! I may have to look at booking next year a place that offers a dish that features truffles. Yum! :thumbsup2

Hi, and welcome! :wave2:

I'm a big fan of red meat, you'll often see it featured prominently in my reports. :rotfl: But as you've seen, I like to mix it up with some seafood too!

The Chicken Marsala at Italy's F&W booth was honestly nothing to write home about. It was okay. It was pretty generic and reminded me of something you'd get at any ol' chain restaurant, not even necessarily an Italian one. I ate every bit, but I wouldn't order it again.

So glad you're here and enjoying the noms! :goodvibes

Welcome! :wave2: I'm falling behind, I know! I'll try to have Tusker House up soon. I honestly didn't take as many photos there as I should have. Whoopsies!

Those scallops, good lord. I'm still dreaming about them. :cloud9:

Breakfast

20140926_104539-1.jpg

They called this Jungle Juice. Or Jambo Punch. Or something. I don't remember, but it was delicious! I actually lost track of how many glasses of it I had.

20140926_101705.jpg

Round 1 (Clockwise from Top: Biscuits & Gravy, Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, Sausage.

Pretty tame, I know. I wasn't impressed with gravy, it was too thick and very bland, almost paste-like. The eggs and bacon were good!

20140926_102151.jpg

Round 2 (Clockwise from Top: Ham & Cheese Frittata, Potato & Leek Frittata, Mickey Waffles, Ham, Krispy Kreme Donut Holes.

I really liked the frittatas, and of course Mickey Waffles are always a winner! :)

One thing I was disappointed by: I intentionally booked my ADR so that I would be there for the switchover from breakfast to lunch, as I was wanting more of a brunch variety to sample from. I waited until 11:30am before I gave up and left.. not one single lunch item was brought out. In fact at 11:20am, I saw them replenishing the breakfast items. :confused3

I think I'd like to go here again, and take more photos of the bar, etc. Maybe for an actual lunch time next time, though. :rotfl:

Character photos can be found in my Trip Report (link in my signature)! :goodvibes

Sorry you didn't like Tusker more. I'm really shocked they didn't switch to lunch! I had originally set my reservation for that time too, but then switched it to lunch.

I'll give it another chance! I liked it, I just didn't LOVE it. I think I'll do lunch next time. :thumbsup2

Dinner

Bread service.

I'm not entirely was the dipping sauce was, but it was sweet. I loved it.

Enjoying your dining report! The dip is Guinness Glaze and Olive Oil. First time I tried it was a ladies only trip. Then came home and raved about it. So DH looked up the recipe and now makes it at home sometimes!

And you can buy it by the jar in the gift shop :thumbsup2

GASP! Thank you both for the information! Happy to know what it was now, and that I can potentially make it or buy it for home! It really was super delicious!

Sorry you didn't enjoy your tusker experience as much as we have in the past. I generally don't like buffets, but tusker has been the one exception. If you go again you should try some of the African inspired items. I love the pap (corn dish with a grit like consistency), beef bobtie, and sweet pototaoes. Odd they didn't switch over though. We had a 1045 ressie a couple of trips ago and they did the switch over during our service, but just half the buffet first.

Oh, I'm likely going to give it another chance on my next trip! It was good, it just didn't wow me. I think lunch will be a better option for me next time! :thumbsup2

Really enjoying your reviews! I *heart* red meat! :yay:
Red meat is my best friend and my worst enemy. (Side note: I had a thick juicy delicious medium-rare boneless ribeye for dinner last night. :cloud9: )

This dining report is AWESOME! I love the way you describe the food and your alcoholic beverage selfies :thumbsup2

This report is making me want to plan my next trip already! (I go to Disney to EAT :lmao:)

Lunch

20140927_141649-1.jpg

Lobster Roll, French Fries, Chocolate Cake, Large Root Beer.

The lobster roll was SUPER delicious! I'm a fan of lobster rolls in general, but many have too much celery in them for me. This one was just right!

The fries were good, hot and fresh. The chocolate cake was pretty generic, nothing overly special.

That lobster made it all worthwhile, though! :thumbsup2

Swirl Dole Whip Float: Pineapple/Vanilla Swirl with Pineapple Juice.

Soooooo good! It had been years since I was able to enjoy this tasty treat, and from the first sip, I was reminded why the wait in the long line is sooooo totally worth. YUM!!!!

Dinner

I was soooooo excited about this dinner reservation! I ended up rearranging my trip around the one day I was able to land it for, but I'm glad I did! I know a lot of people have been giving this place less-than-flattering reviews, but I LOVED it!

20140927_182807.jpg

Moscato.

My favorite white wine! I've been happy to see this growing in popularity and popping up on more restaurant wine lists!

Bread service.

20140927_180912.jpg

Potato Leek Soup.

This was yum! After spending much of the day in the cold rain, this totally hit the spot!

20140927_182132.jpg

Sauteed Shrimp and Scallops - Seasonal vegetables served in puff pastry with a creamy lobster sauce.

Oh. My. God. This was AMAZING!!! Absolutely delicious. The shrimp and scallops were cooked perfectly, and plentiful, it had just enough vegetables without being overwhelming, the puff pastry was buttery and flakey and perfect, and the sauce was rich and creamy and flavorful.

The dessert cart!

20140927_184036.jpg

Special Occasion sample plate of the Grey Stuff.

This was good! It was smooth and light, I really liked it. Nummy!

20140927_184105.jpg

Strawberry Cream Cheese Cupcake - Vanilla sponge cake, strawberry mousse filling, and cream cheese icing.

I selected this one after reading so many glowing reviews of it here on the Dis. I'm so glad that I did, it was scrumptious, and just the perfect sweet end to a wonderful meal! :goodvibes

Dinner

20140928_000345-1.jpg

Chili Cheese Dog (topped with chili and cheddar cheese sauce), Fries, Cotton Candy, Large Root Beer.

This is one of those classic Disney World eateries that I've always passed by. It was very late, shortly before park closed, and I saw it open, so I knew I had to give it a try.

While it may not look like much, it was actually crazy delicious, and totally hit the spot! The fries were the usual, but they were fresh and hot and salty, and perfect compliment to the chili cheese dog. YUM! :thumbsup2
