Non-DVC Resale Companies?

Hello!

Please redirect me if this post is not in the right place!

I am looking into selling my non-DVC timeshare weeks, and my home resort directed me to, but were careful not to "recommend", SellMyTimshareNow.

I do not like the looks of this company! They want all the fees upfront, they are not BBB accredited (but still have 45 complaints!) and seem to promise high prices for sales.

I read on here about the sponsor, The Timshare Store, and they do not want fees upfront, are A+ with the BBB (and have no complaints), and seem more reasonable with what I should expect to list as my selling price.

Has anyone used either of these businesses to sell timeshares? Or recommend any other avenues?

I know if I find a buyer myself, a lawyer is all I need to do the paperwork, but I was hoping to find someone who can take care of everything!!

Wow, I had no ides SellMyTimeshareNow charged fees up front. They also quote closing costs for DVC at $1,800, when reputable companies charge around $450. Sounds like they rip off both the buyer and seller.

If The Timeshare Store will accept your non-DVC timeshare then I would expect that to be an excellent avenue. Many here have bought and sold DVC through them and with solid results. I wouldn't expect any unpleasant surprises for the non-DVC holding other time and price. (Personally, I'd expect a slow sale and very low sales price.)

I've sold two on eBay (but many years ago before prices took a sharp decline). I'd recommend looking at recent eBay sales of your particular resort/unit/week to help determine market value.

Yes! They want $1298 up front.

Thank you for the vote for TTS! I inherited the weeks, so luckily I'm not discouraged by knowing the original purchase price.

Try tugbbs.com or redweeks.com they have free listings. Note: if your timeshare is not a big name resort ( Marriot, Hilton, Disney, etc) you may have to pay for all the closings and transfer as an incentive to sell(or give away).

I own a Starwood Sheraton Vistana resort right NEXT to Dis World...it has been totally renovated...is a RCI Gold Crown resort.
I own a 2BR lock off and a 2 BR (every other year).
I bought these prior to DVC existing.
Tried to give them back to Vistana at no chg..no go.
My problem is paying maint. fees at DVC and Vistana. And being 74 years young.
It is increasingly more difficult for the zillions of timeshare owners...esp. in Fl to get rid of them.
Sheraton at one time had a rental program...no more.
If I refuse to pay the annual fees they ruin your credit.
I just joined RedWeek so will give that a go.

I'd research TUG (Timeshare Users Group), Redweeks.com and ebay for pricing realities. Definitely do not pay an upfront fee of any type ever. Depending on what you own, be prepared for it to be worth little or nothing and if there's a mortgage, to pay if off yourself prior to or at closing. There are exceptions but not a lot.

I bought 2 summer weeks at Sheraton Vistana for $1 each on eBay and gave them away for free on Tugg after using them. So if you are prepared to give them away Tugg is an excellent resource for that. I didn't have to do anything either. The 'buyer' had his lawyer take care of the transfer and I verified when it was all done.

It took a while, probably around 1 year, and few price drops but it did finally sell and it was super easy. They faxed me the forms, we signed with a notary, and faxed it back.

I agree with others that you should never, ever have to pay fees up front. TS is real estate and what genuine agent would ever expect their commission up front? That is a huge red flag that it's a scam. Run!!
