'Ol Ninja Mom has a link to a post that will give you a good idea of what to expect weather wise during your Summer WDW vacation. In this article you will find a local news station weather link that you can book mark on your 'smarter than you are Phone' so you can get the local and regional weather info in real time.~NM

Thanks Ninja Mom! I went to the local news station that is mentioned in the link and discovered that they also have a free mobile app. Also, when you are on their website, you can sign up for Orange County weather alerts to be sent as texts to your 'smarter than you are Phone' (and of course, messaging rates do apply). ;)

Another great item to add to my growing list of other Disney apps - preferred airline, home airport, important WDW phone numbers, MDE, and of course DISBOARDS!

Thanks again for the tip!

I've changed our reservation to YC due to the construction at BC during our stay (or at least expected during our stay). My only concern is we booked SV CL and I'm thinking I'm going to regret it. For those of you that had SV, did you regret not going GV or LB?

Jenn

Thanks for the links Ninja Mom!

Another gem on the easywdw link is the great run down on drinking around the world. Putting that to use will guarantee a long nap :)

Teena - have a magical cruise! I know how you love your cruises!!!

Nettie - added another day huh. I think I know someone else who just did this - oh wait it was me!

We have so many of the same ideas! Can't wait for our meet.
Also can't wait to hear all your reports of your July Extravaganza!

Are you planning a trip to Walt Disney World some time in the next few months?

Are you prepared for the summer weather that awaits you?

Do you know what to pack, what to expect, and what to do when it RAINS during YOUR vacation?

Well are YOU in luck!!

That makes sitting on those aluminum benches waiting for Fantasmic to start a whole lot less riskier if it looks like a storm may or may not be moving in. Consult that weather link on your smart phone and you'll be the first to know when to beat feat and be first in line for the bus BEFORE the show eventually gets cancelled.

As an aside to this article, NOW would be a good time to start breaking in those new sport sandals you are going to be wanting to wear in the scorching heat of mid-summers-day in Orlando. You can do that on those walks you are supposed to be taking to get your piggies in park touring shape. You're taking those walks... Right??? :rolleyes1 Trust me, it will be so much better if you did. Just a half an hour every other day will do wonders for your fitness level and park touring comfort levels.

Also keep in mind that Sneakers take a few days to dry when they get wet and since it regularly rains in the afternoons for a brief time during the summer you know you are going to have to fall back on plan B for the footwear to dry out... and you are taking more than one pair of footwear...RIGHT? (Husbands I am looking at YOU!)

Remember the rain usually hits between 2-6 pm and it can be a brief sprinkle or an extended downpour... it all depends on what turns up on God's wheel of fortune. Some of the smarter ones also realize that the best time to hit Storm Along Bay is Before this rainy period, say from 11 (or earlier) to around 1:30pm. The parks are open later at night during the summer and going then when it is MUCH cooler and way less crowded makes putting that late morning pool time on the touring schedule a workable option. The wait times for the rides fall off drastically after the fireworks happen and the majority of people leave the park.

Thanks NinjaMom

OK, probably a silly question.

I'm doing online check in for our YC trip (in only 45 days :cool1:)

What room requests should I make?

We're staying Garden View.

I was thinking of requesting a corner room near an elevator, thinking it would make it easier to get in and out in the mornings. (We do rope drop, an afternoon break, then fireworks, so the elevator noise probably won't be an issue.) Does that combo even exist?

They also give you the option of earlier check in as an override of the other options. Our flight gets us to MCO at around noon, so I'm not sure how much benefit there is there-- though in 2012 we waited until about 5 pm for our room at the BC (we had requested "near epcot" and got exactly that!)

Or should I just leave it all in the hands of the booking gods?

Anyone want to help me clarify my thoughts?

We stayed at the YC once and had a room close to the exit near the laundry room. The door opens right near the boat dock and makes the walk to Epcot seem as short as possible. There is also an elevator near that exit.

We did online check in and listed our expected resort arrival time, which was 11am. Our room was ready for us when we got there, which is the biggest benefit of online check in for us. :)

I did online check-in, making sure I only requested 1 or 2 items (we have a split stay). I'd rather have a better chance of getting what is most important to me, hopefully...

The first year we stayed at the YC, we had to wait until almost 5 pm also, but it was so worth it. We were upgraded to lagoon view!

Has anyone ever ordered the "amenities" from the in room dining experience?! Our friends and their kids are checking in next Saturday. I was looking to send them either the Stormalong buckets or the Snack Attack. Anyone every tried either of these?? Their kids are 5 and 3.

Thanks!!

Where do u even see any info on this?

Just started my online check in for my August trip, wondering how I disable my 11 year olds charging privileges?

Has anyone ever gotten a massage at the ship shape spa? If so, what massage did you get, how was it, and would you recommend going? thanks so much for your input!

Just lovin' your live reports! :thumbsup2 So much fun! :woohoo:I was wondering though...how did you get over to MK from MGM (aka HS) and how long did it take you. We will be park hopping the end of next month and MK always seems daunting to get to as a 2nd hop.

That is a very good question....I need to think back to that day.....did we go back to the BC to hang out then take the bus? Nope! I had to ask my husband and now it's all coming back to me. We took the bus from MGM to MK. In the rain! The bus was waited for us. I think it was one of the only times when my daughter's broken foot helped us....he saw her trying to walk quickly with her monstrous boot on her foot (in the rain) and he held the bus for us. It took about 10 minutes to get to MK. Easy peasy.

I've been quiet for a while....didn't get a chance to post my final live report. Yeah, that sobbing you heard on Wednesday was ME. Crying as we left BC and checked into AoA. Megan (broken foot daughter) and I spent Tuesday at the pool while my husband took the other two kids to Cocoa Beach. Did I already report that? I did laundry that morning (I remember reporting that!) and we spent the afternoon at SAB. We sat at a table on the YC side of the pool. It's MUCH quieter on that side than on the BC side. We were very thankful to have the table as it poured several times but we stayed nice and dry under the umbrella. I tried the Black Cherry Lemonade from HH. It tasted like cough syrup. I should have stuck with the tried and true Sunken Treasure or a Pina CooLava. Now I know....

Megan and I went to DTD for a little shopping after our pool time. Joel and the kids were going to meet us for dinner at DTD but then a monsoon hit (not really a monsoon.....can monsoons hit central Florida? huh....) so they picked us up and we had dinner at the QS at GF. We met up with our relatives who were staying there and enjoyed a nice meal.

On Wednesday we checked out and headed over to AoA. I wasn't expecting to like AoA but I was surprised....I liked it! Our room was perfect for our family of five....that extra bathroom was a lifesaver! I forgot to smuggle a roll of nice TP from BC. It's the little things (and some not-so-little things) that really differentiates a deluxe from a value (even a nicer one such as AoA). Nicer toilet paper, thicker bath towels, pool towels available at the pool, nicer toiletries, etc were things we missed about BC. And the wi-fi and cellular reception was abysmal at AoA. Our kids loved the Cars pool but didn't enjoy the Nemo pool. They said there were too many little kids there and it was too crowded. And there was no slide. We really like the food court though. The food choices were fantastic and everything was delicious. They also really liked the arcade. I am very glad we rented a car because the lines for the buses in the morning for the parks were CRAZY long! Despite the cons, we would definitely stay there again.

Dee, I might have a picture of the Stormalong Bay Breeze drink for you on my phone. I'll look for it.

I asked the lady at the spa if we were able to use the showers on check-out day if we had used the pool. She gave me a look of sheer horror (I swore I heard her gasp!) and said, "Oh NO. Those showers are only for people getting spa treatments!" So I pressed on.....what if we were using the exercise machines? Can't we use the showers then? She said that if we get sweaty from exercising for 30 minutes or more THEN we can use the showers. I'll bet you anything she is the broad who complained to management and had the shower policy changed!

We had a magnificent trip! We did lots of rides and attractions we haven't done in a long time or ever even. Spending 10 days still isn't enough time. Our love for BC is stronger than ever. I came home and washed my hands with Rainkissed Leaves hand soap and it smells so much like the BC lobby it's unbelievable!

Well peeps, I've been awake since 4am Orlando (which is 3am Chicago) time. We had a 7:35am flight home today plus I had to work tonight 5-10pm. I was able to sleep for a couple of hours this afternoon but my body has hit a wall. I must go to bed. Sweet BC dreams, everyone!

I'll post pics early next week!

Thank you so much for checking on this and for your very vivid description!

I could picture the scenario and it made me both :lmao: and :sad2:
