Hi Guys,

I would love to hear from you how your Alaska cruise went. I found just a couple of reviews available. I am sailing August 2015 and we will be two Couples. We had cruise with Disney before but never to the Alaska itinerary.

What would be you "Must-Do" that only Alaska can offer?

Thanks a lot!

We went last August, first week....it was perfect weather and the salmon run was happening so that was neat to see. I'm not sure when in Aug you are going. We did excursions on each day and thought they were all amazing.

Skagway--did White Pass Railroad, trainride up and van back down....really neat....we used Chilkoot Charters as it was a bit less expensive then DCL and really great to work with.

Juneau-whale watching....favorite excursion of all time. We used Harv and Marv and had a boat to ourselves. We saw whales we could practically touch. It was amazing!!!!!!

Ketchikan-float plane with bear reserve-this needs to be booked well in advance as only a very few people each day are allowed into the bear reserve. We booked through Island Wings and she was great. Landing in the water was so fun and it is SO beautiful.

You will love it no matter what!!!!!!

We cruised to Alaska in July 2011. It was amazing!! The most extravagent thing we did was in Skagway. We took a helicopter ride to the Denver Glacier and then went dog sledding at a dog sled camp on the glacier. It was pricey but worth every penny!! AMAZING!!
Then in Juneau we booked our own whale watching excursion with Captain Greg. It was also wonderful and we saw lots of whales and Captain Greg was wonderful. You can read about him on Tripadvisor.
Also in the town of Juneau there is a shop called Glacier Soap Company. We bought some bars of soap from them and then I have been using them here at home. It is the most wonderful bar soap I have ever used. I actually just ordered more bars from their website last month. They make great gifts to bring people back too.
You will love Alaska! Have a great trip!!:wave2:

Skagway - We did the Liarsville Character gold panning Disney Exclusive excursion. It was fun and the food was good. We got a bunch of really unique photos with the characters while gold panning, and came home with some real gold (4 very, very small flakes...).

Tracy Arm - We booked Palo for brunch right about the time we were crossing the "bar" into Tracy Arm (a 12:30 brunch). We watched a good portion of the entry from Palo's windows and that part of deck 10 was blocked for Palo guests. We were done and changed and back to deck 10 forward just as we got to the glacier and then watched as we cruised out of Tracy Arm from Deck 10.

Juneau - We did the 5 Glacier sea plane tour, which was beautiful. Incredibly scenic. Does not go to Mendenhall Glacier, though, and the one we did was just a fly over, no landing. but still worth every $$.

We also did the Mount Roberts Tramway in Juneau. It was $32/pp for an all day pass and takes you up and down the mountain. There is a raptor center at the top, a restaurant, and a 1-mile hike with two beautiful scenic overlook spots. The tram way is easy to walk to from the cruise dock. In fact, when the Wonder docked this past week and we shuttled in to town, the shuttles dropped us off right in front of the tramway.

Ketchikan - We did the Adventure Kart excursion. The trail was old logging roads, and boy, did we get dirty! But, we got to see Ketchikan from an elevation and an angle like no one else. We also got to see some of the clear cutting that happens for the wood in the area, and the rain forest in Ketchikan. The karts were 2-seaters and we switched drivers half way along the trail.

On board, plan to spend as much time on the open decks as possible, and dress warm (it gets cold and windy up there!). From the ship itself, we saw humpback whales, seals, bald eagles, other cruisers saw orcas, etc. So, bring your camera with you everywhere.

Also, it can get chilly and the hot cocoa on the top deck goes fast sometimes. :sad1: However, for when it is hot, it was nice to have marshmallows to drop into it while snuggled up on the open decks. Speaking of, check the cabinets where you would typically find clean towels on the pool deck, some of them have clean blankets!

Happy cruising!

Sounds like you had a great time. Did the Wonder dock away from the main port in Juneau?

I did the Mendenhall Glacier and Rainforest Garden Tour in Juneau. It is a good tour for seniors. Glacier Gardens Rainforest Tour is a commercial nursery operations with a gentle walking tour of the land with waterfalls and tree baskets. It is a nice addition to the Glacier tour. I learned a lot about Alaska flora and fauna from her and the gardens smelled wonderful.

The Juneau rainforest tour highlighted the bears that don't come out until late June. Once the bears are awake, Juneau will be interesting. This time of year (May) we saw mostly big bugs on this tour. The birds of prey, carvers, and reindeer did add to the attraction. The crab feast after the rainforest was so wonderful. Best food on the whole trip.

Wow! Everything sound fun! We will do palo again so I'll have that in mind...
The glacier plane tour sound perfect for us let's see if we get!
Thanks a lot for the info!

We went in August and experienced no mosquitoes or bugs.
We did use layers of clothing and the weather was mostly in the 40's to 50's except at night on the ship when it got really cold due to the wind.
Make sure to be on deck when going through Tracy Arm Fjord, we also went right up to Sawyer Glacier which was amazing...so close!!!!
In Juneau we took a helicopter up to the top of a glacier and it was one of the coolest experiences of my life. No one else around as far as the eye could see!
In Skagway we took a boat to Haines and picked up a tour with an ex forest ranger who took us to Tongass National Forest where we saw a family of bears up close and personal (a mom and her two cubs) - the mom would catch salmon and toss them up to the cups - it was quite an experience....there was just our small group of under 20 along with a few others - amazing. In Ketchican we experienced a cancellation of our excursion because the weather was "unpredictable" - there was really not much available at the last minute which was a disappointment but we ended up just watching the lumberjack show and checking out the town.
You will have a ball!

We cruised to Alaska on the Wonder at the end of last July. We had some overcast weather but the only precipitation was light sprinkles in Juneau, but not even enough to need an umbrella. Tracy Arm day was mostly sunny with a few passing clouds. Scenery was amazing! Bring your camera and binoculars. We spotted a couple of eagles with our binoculars in a tree on one of the islands we passed.

We did the snorkeling adventure in Ketchikan and it was absolutely our favorite excursion! Check out the website for Snorkel Alaska and look at the reviews and photos on Trip Advisor.
