I know I'm late but tbh I'm über new to this thread �� we are looking to take our very first dcl cruise this next year!! It seems so much more overwhelming then a land trip! I love all your pics and thoughts on stuff you experienced! Our oldest dd is the same age as your son so reading what he liked (and didn't ) is refreshing ! Can't wait to read more!

A cruise is less overwhelming in my opinion. It seems more so at first because it's all new but it actuality there isn't nearly as much to plan, on short cruises like our 5 nights any way.​

Sorry about that guy blocking your view. I am 5'2" and have had that experience more than once. It is amazing how some people never learned how to be considerate.

He was just so ridiculous. His poor wife. ​

I have never heard of a fresh coconut crepe (I make the banana/Nutella version for my kids). Your crepe looked amazingly! I might have to try making those this weekend.

The crepe was amazing. It was a regular crepe, I just added the fresh coconut shavings and ice cream. It was heavenly. Did you make the crepes this weekend?​

Last night my H/A Verandah cabin opened up on the cruise on the 18th!

I put it on a 5 day hold, now we have to call and give them the gift cards to reserve it for real!!!!!!

Wooohooo! How do we all get to sit at a table together? You guys did second seating right?

I am all caught up again. I saved this thread for last, partly because I needed to have some time after coming off the Wonder myself before reading about this beautiful ship. I miss the Wonder so much.

The room service breakfast sounds like a good idea. Shame that the coffee and the English muffin were not very nice. Well done on spotting the dolphins. They are so difficult to photograph.

I like room service. It wasn't filling but it took the hunger edge off and was a nice wake up. A prefer a tap on the door compared to a phone ringing very loudly. ​

You had a really busy first sea day. I love my DVC tumbler. I was so hoping that I would get another one this year. You did good with all the gifts.

I gather you made the acquaintance with Jesus. I was not too sure what to make of him during Mixology on our repo last year, but he did most of our private tastings and he was amazing for those.

Yes, we met Jesus. Jesus is a funny fellow for sure. He was very knowledgable and had a great sense of humor.​

Well done for winning the Disney trivia. It was nice to see our buddy Ashley in the trivia photos that Pam posted. She rocks and I miss her so much. I think you got pretty much the same drinks we got. I loved the shot with the Creme de Menthe. I have done Mixology a number of times on the Magic and the Wonder and also a mix of private once and normal scheduled classes and we got to make drinks ourselves only once and that was during a private Mixology on the Magic.

Ashely was also in the Sail Away party. Cute girl, lots of energy.​

The steak sandwich from room service is beyond amazing. I can't believe that in 13 cruises and 119 nights on the Magic and Wonder, we only managed to have room service once.

Once? LOL! We ordered every morning but the last as well as twice in the afternoon on just a 5 night cruise. ​

Congratulations on getting your villa for December. I wish I could say the same for our studio on November.

I love your pirate dress. As far as Pirate Night in the dining rooms is concerned, it is not so much the menu that I dislike, but the noise in the dining room on that night. That is why we escape to Palo on Pirate Night.

Was the dining room loud? I swear I didn't notice. Haha! I don't hear dogs bark either. I think it's a gift, Michael calls it a curse. ​

The family dynamics with your table mates sound interesting to say the least.

Very. They became as likable as they were crazy. I felt sorry for the tweens and they ended up spending more and more time with us.​

We did the Hawaii cruise in 2012 and it was amazing. We are both glad we did it as this gave us the incentive to go back for a land-based vacation, but we also both agree that once is enough for us. We may do an inter-island cruise in Hawaii at some stage, but as much as I love my sea days, 9 of them for 4 days in port when there is so much to see was too much for me.

9 sea days? What did you do all day everyday?​

Tell Joshua that we live about 25 miles away from the Everton ground. DH actually was there for a cup match with his team in his younger years, but ended up spending the whole match on the substitute bench.

The crepe was fabulous but that's totally my kind of dessert; warm, buttery, and not overly sweet.

I'll go into details when I go into Cozumel (next update) about the missing ball.

I love the magnet paper I used, it works so well. They don't move at all. I'm sorry yours didn't stay put I bought it on amazon, and that way you wouldn't have to bother with the laminator either.

I had industrial strength magnet tape and that did not do the trick. The doors have been repainted so often that the layers of paint on some of the doors are so thick that the magnets don't work. My printer also is not very good with printing pictures so I always have my graphics printed by one of the online photo processing sites. Still, I have about a year until the next cruise so I may invest in another printer by then.

That should give me enough time to get myself organized and catch up with all the other little things in real life that were waiting for me when I got back.

Unfortunately Ashley's days with DCL are numbered. She is going on vacation in July to go to Italy and then she will be back for one contract before moving to Italy long-term. I wish her every happiness, but I am sad that I won't see her again.

I know what you mean about being woken up by the phone ringing, but I like to hear Mickey's voice first thing in the morning.

I am quite sensitive to noise and to me the dining rooms are really loud on Pirate Night.

9 sea days as such is no problem. We have had that many sea days on other cruises. Strictly speaking, we had that many sea days on this cruise if you count the crossing day and I still did not manage to do everything that I would have liked to do. However, psychologically there is a big difference for me if it is a one-way cruise like our Panama Canal cruises or our transatlantic cruise or a round-trip cruise like Hawaii. I don't mind having 9 sea days if they are part of getting somewhere, but if I spend 9 sea days ending up where I started, that is different.

I like my gin. The biggest surprise for me was during another tasting where we had a Martini made with Bourbon and I actually really liked it.

I may be losing my mind. I don't remember any kind of buffet after the pirate party on either cruise! Now, to be fair, our Wonder Pirate night was basically a bust due to weather, it was all inside. On that cruise there was one dessert buffet, but it was at Triton's.

I like the show and the fireworks but honestly have no desire to be down there dancing.

GAH on the soccer ball. They are not cheap and they are special. Especially at certain ages. I swear K used to sleep with a world cup one my folks brought home from Germany 4 years ago.

Maybe Pam can chime in as she's cruised before but we had a full on dessert buffet and it also had turkey legs, nachos stuff, and all kinds of goodies. It was pretty cool. I have heard rumors that Disney may do a Star Wars party on some cruises. That would be fun too! I think folks are sort of over the pirate stuff but I would dress up again for sure.

I would have liked to have been with the masses during this first one but now I'll never get my chance. The hoodlums will be much too cool on our next cruise. Or maybe they'll have cycled back around from CoolVille. LOL!

I am so wanting to tell the kids and M but need to wait.

Joshua was sleeping with this ball pre-cruise. The lack of answers up until this point was frustrating to say the least. he got that ball as a gift for his bar mitzvah too. of course it wasn't going to last forever but we planned on at least a year or two.​

A number of people in our part of the ship had trouble with stuff falling off the doors. This included whiteboards with very heavy duty magnets. I could not even get the DVC magnets to stick.

Yes, Ashley is off to Italy. Her partner is from there and he wants to go back home after working at Remy on the Dream for some time.

The long cruises are truly magical. There is a bunch of extra entertainment, lectures and usually some special guests on the ship. There is plenty to do. On our 2011 Panama Canal Cruise, we had Ridley Pearson (Kingdom Keepers) on the ship. Meeting him was amazing.

If I remember correctly, the cocktail with the Bourbon was called Washington Apple. It was very nice.

I didn't get around to making them ...too busy with multiple trips to Home Depot, painting, planting grass, trips to Costco. I am going to try to make them this weekend instead!

I saw where it said sporting goods but gave examples of like bats and hockey sticks. I'll get more into the ball situation but can tell you that balls are allowed and if they aren't, Disney is very inconsistent with the policy. ​

That hilarious! I love the food picture taking. Even our table mates got into it. Maybe like begets like?

So we got back to the room after a very fun pirate night, put the room service ticket on the outside of the door, and saw the red light blinking on the phone. Ah a message! Maybe it was guest services and indeed the Port did confiscate Joshua’s soccer ball and it would be there waiting once we returned to Miami?

Or maybe not.

Or definitely not.

At all.

It was guest services calling to inform me that they spoke with someone at the Port and they had no record of his ball being confiscated. Disney also had no record of his ball being confiscated and indeed they wouldn’t take it as soccer balls are not a prohibited item per this CM.

So this meant that someone took the ball. I don’t know who or where but it was gone and there was no trace of it. We were less than pleased.

I called down to guest service to see if we could borrow a ball, got some song and dance, and my request was declined. Guest services 1, me 0.

Having done my homework, I knew there would be a Mega or some other grocery chain nearby. We’d go and grab him a new (cheap) soccer ball to have for our Mexico and CC days. He brought the ball for that reason. I told Joshua my plan and he seemed satisfied.

In all honesty the missing ball did not dampen our moods. We were heading to Mexico baby!



Cozumel!

We woke up early to the sound of a faint knock from room service. Love those guys. They are polite and mellow in their delivery. They brought the food in, set it up, and I tipped accordingly.

Here are the Navigator’s for the day. Now I would explain to you the time change but it confused me so much I can’t. I think Cozumel was naturally an hour behind ship time but we needed to subtract another hour to get the real time. No clue. LOL!

I had been chatting with Beth from here and our FB group and we decided to share a taxi to Nachi Cocom. I had read that it was $20 one way, we ended up paying the equivalent of $8 USD each in Pesos. Love saving a little money when I can.

Nachi is an all inclusive private beach and bar that takes up to 100 guests per day. More if you pay enough to get in at the gate. Thats a story for later that day. I would visit Nachi again in a heartbeat!

Beth was traveling with her hubby Chase and this was their anniversary trip. Oh my gosh they are the nicest people ever.

There was also another party from our FB group who was attending a vowel renewal. This party included some of the ladies from the Mixology. I think of the 100 allowed Nachi guests, folks from the Wonder took up about 40 spots.

Back to sunrise and arriving early morning in Cozumel. This is from our verandah. I mean really, how did we luck out with this view?





Another attempt at making the sewage taste not like sewage. This time I added regular milk and sugar.

We had planned to meet Chance and Beth at the buffet before heading to Nachi Cocom. We weren’t that hungry but met them and took a glance at the buffet. I ended up getting a hash brown patty and it was delicious.

Off we went to go through the Port, to the Mega, and then a taxi to Nachi.

It was now about 8:30 am I believe due to all of the time changes. Chase wore a watch so I knew we’d make it back.

Passing the Starbuck’s I was very tempted to log into the wifi and connect but I promised myself I wouldn’t. I prevailed and survived!

We walked through the shopping area and to the Mega in no time. We found Joshua a soccer ball no problem. I love my no so rusty Spanish. Having just returned from a week in Zihuatanejo a month earlier, my Spanish was still decent. I also bought us all some kakawates limones (lime peanuts).

We grabbed a cab outside the Mega and headed to Nachi. I took a few pics on the way.

Ahhhh, the ocean. Look at that blue!
