Our little thread of BIG changes, the neverending saga of the Resort Changers

I'm glad you had a good time on your trip and that they fixed your resort problem so quickly.

It is a really strange disease. My favorite great uncle had it.
Thanks! We did have a great trip as always! It is a very strange disease!

Sue Welcome home! :lovestruc Sorry about the dirty room, but glad they fixed it promptly! Overall, did you like POR?:)
Yes! We love POR! It's our fav moderate. Grounds are beautiful. Just love strolling along the river paths. Rooms are comfortable, we only have 2-3 people in the room, depending on if 1 or both daughters come. And love the extras, boat to DTD, and evening entertainment. Something I wish more resorts had. Food court is good too. Love the Pasta and salad bar!! In the morning it's an omelette bar!

Hi Magic! Sorry that work is on over load .. but oh love your take on multi tasking LOL (Now I have an excuse )

Thank you guys. And to all that may remember, my mom has Parkinson's which has been progressing over the last year or two, and it has prompted her move from assisted living to memory care. It's sad to see. We took a weekend trip at the end of January and although my mom does stiill recognize us, there is more mumbling and she is less coherent than 3 months ago. Seeing this, makes me me very thankful for the trips we shared over the last 4 years.

Welcome back Lacey! That's great that you had an amazing time on the cruise (and the land part too!) And we want the whole scoop!!

Jen, hope the car issues will turn out to be minor. And :yay: for strapping on the undies!! You can do it again (you do have days of the week panties, right?!

Wookie, so sad and devastating for the families and classmates of these young ladies. This brings home that we should live each day fully and make sure the people we care and love, know it.

And ladies, you all amazing and I'm so thankful to have you in my life.

Sue!! Welcome back! :flower3: Today as I was driving home from work you popped into my mind :) and I hoped to see you posting soon on your trip. So cool you got to meet up with some CM friends. :) I'm so looking forward to August, to meet up with you and other RCers.

Sue  In her way so is communicating. This is how I look at it when my mom was mumbling this past trip. The memories and thoughts and speech are trapped inside - I believe she knows you were there.
Thanks!! Looking forward to August too!
Yes, I do believe on some level she did know I was there. Such a sad disease.

Glad you had a great trip (other than room issue) and are home safe and sound... now to plan for the next!

Janet and Sue I am so sorry you have to deal with such a hard situation. There is nothing like seeing a once spry and strong slowly retreat into themselves and suffer with such debilitating issues. My step-dad's mom is going through Alzheimer's and dementia right now and it's just devastating: she no longer remembers me or my husband and has it in her head that we (with her son) are against her so we minimize any visits, which is gut-wrenching for my step-dad. He feels like he's neglecting her but doesn't want to cause added stress. I also dealt with this with my father's parents and my mom's dad started to go through similar before passing... just makes me appreciate the amazing lives they led and am grateful for the time we had. One bright thing is that my mom's mom is showing signs of dementia but pictures of my DD's seem to help her focus so I love sending boku pictures to try and help - required bragging!

:grouphug: to everyone who is going through this... and don't keep your emotions bottled up - it is so hard to see and so hard to handle and sometimes you just need to talk about it!!! One great thing about all your girls - you're such a good sounding board and support group!

 there are people who can get better deals than the mil rate??? Where have I been??? How do I find such sorcery???

DRIVE SAFE!!!

We have turned over to sleet now after a good 3-4" of snow... so now we have a slushy mess that is freezing over in spots. Supposed to turn back to snow in a few hours. BLEH! DH is on the phone now trying to find out if he has to go in -- PLEASE NO!!! Save me from the children! -- but I'm grateful to have less of an impact: my mom, about an hour north of us, is supposed to get upwards of 12 inches :scared1: Not good for a state that goes bonkers when we get 1"!!!

STAY WARM everyone, :coffee: *HUGS* to anyone who needs one and think :earsgirl: for all!

Thank you! It's is surprising how many are affected by Alzheimer's.

Good Morning!

Here's a little sunshine for everyone (thought we might need it)... brought to you from Disney's beautiful Castaway Cay

Have a meeting early this morning at the school, then hopefully I'll be back so I can catch up and make replies to all.

Think Disney sunshine and stay warm! :beach:
Heather
Nice!! Love your pics!

Awwww. I agree 100%. I am thinking of you and SueM both. My Dad is very early stages. His Mom lived with Alzeimers 'til her upper 90s. Hoping Dad is spared this same fate.

Koh1977, yes we have logged many, many POR August trips. We love that resort like no other... well, except for CR and maybe a few other assorted Deluxes.

_____:hippie:_____

HStrickland: Enjoy winter break, and thanks for the sunshine! ;)

pas130: Happy training to ya!

dimndgal1: Yum! Thanks for the Mickey bar, it was SWELL!

basketlacey: Hmmm... we sound the same about FWC and WANTING it to be great. We ARE the same about the CR love. It rocks! Sooooo... since we are so much alike,, I'm thinking I should take a cruise real soon, since I will love that too! :lmao:

jennyjinx: Thanks for the hug. I needed it!

SueM: Thanks for the recap of your time. Glad POR handled your issue so professionally. Those folks are really good there IMO.

LuvLuvLuv: Hi! :wave2: Happy news about your expanded cruise plans!

Mounsemommy1: "Over it!" :rotfl2: It's so hard to be us, isn't it. Stick with GF, girl!!!

_____:hippie:_____

Tomorrow, we are "leaving Dodge" for Daytona for the Saturday night race. On the way, we are taking Mom to GF Cafe for Valentine's Day lunch, and a spin around her favorite monorail to her favorite resort, CR, for a little shopping and Castle eye candy. Then a relaxing evening at Daytona, and Fan Zone at the track before the race Saturday. Company will be in town all next week. So, next time you hear from me I will be a certified MAD WOMAN with juggling all the work that will be awaiting my return and my visitors needs. :crazy2:
Have a great trip!
My mom is 83. I know what you mean about hopes that your dad doesn't have to suffer till 90 with it. And so hard on the family watching your loved one slipping away. It took me a long time to come to terms with it.
POR did do a wonderful job of handling our situation. This was our 4 th stay there. Will prob be back next January! This Aug. It's Poly :goodvibes

Hmm...more thoughts...

So I'm not completely blown away by the new GF decor...It's ok, but nothing amazing...on the other hand, I think POR (especially the Alligator Bayou section) is super cute and I'm loving all the trees, etc...just wish we could spend more time at the resort!

Do you think 1.5 days is enough for MK (including evening EMH)? DS is 7 and DD will be 3. Doing RD at least one of those days...then FP+

We love POR, but we prefer the mansion section. Either Acadian or Magnolia are great locations, I request to be close to a Old Man Island Bridge. Close to everything. If you want seperate beds for the kids, AB is a good choice, but you sacrifice storage space, as Murphy bed takes place of dresser. I think there are 2 drawers under bed. And some rooms in AB can be far. Check out Andres site. He also has the thread on Dis.

Room size at POR is def smaller then GF! But POR is our choice when not staying deluxe. We love it there. So beautiful. And also like the option of quiet pool if we just don't feel like going to main pool. Boat to DTD, and evening entertainment is fun.
We do tend to book several DTD ADRs because of boat transportation.

I do think you could do MK in 1.5 days with combo of FP+ and rope drop. We got there at RD, and rode the major things that get long lines first, then had FPs booked starting at 11:00am. Esp since we like to ride our favs more then once!

Just popping in to say hi from Disney! We've had a great trip so far, our MBs have worked great, apart from when I lost mine at MK last night. I had to get it reissued and guess what? It doesn't work to open the room. And CBR's front desk is all the way to one side of the resort. I like CBR, but I don't love it. The rooms are a tad dated, although clean and the beds are comfy. Too many bus stops as well, it takes 15 mins just to get out of the resort. Crowds have been pretty light, lighter then I was expecting. We had to waste a few FP+ reservations because the ride only had a 10 minute wait and we didn't want to ride twice in a row. Sadly, we go home on Monday. I could do with another week!

How many stops does CBR have then? More than 4?

Deena: Yes you are right...that would help if I did something with DD. But....then the other DD's might feel left out. UGH!!! :faint: Can't please them all.

Dimgal: Hmmm..that is what I keep hoping. Maybe this time she will know what to expect and will actually want to to give the clubs another try. You have given me hope!::yes::

Oh we haven't told her or them about it yet....at all!! The trip that is. :p

Yes, I am starting to feel your 'left out' conundrum with our 2 DDs and the LO is only 7 months! Last weekend DH went to take DD6 to our local indoor pool (she's a swim nut). Since I couldn't swim yet post op, I thought it best to stay home with LO (otherwise DH would have to hold her the entire time in the pool v. playing with DD6). Instead, DD6 was jealous that LO was going to get one-on-one time with me... so we all trooped to the pool. Sure enough, DD6 got grumpy that DH had to hold LO the whole time, so I end up taking LO after a bit and let her splash at the zero-entry point. *shakes head* such drama!!!

Hopefully the trip will go smoothly! One thing I have learned about 'selling' things that you're nervous about is to remain positive! Find one or two things older DD would like about the club and focus on those: "And you can do X and Y and since it's a kid's club, mom and dad aren't allowed so you can have some freedom!"

Also, would LOVE to know how you plan on telling!!! :goodvibes

Candace and Dimngal: OMG you two have just made me spit out my red wine!! HAHAHAHA!!!:lmao:

Been there.:rolleyes2:bitelip:[/QUOTE]

:thumbsup2

Good Morning!!!

Crazy Saturday for us, but thought I would stop in and say hello before we get going. Cheer competitions today and taekwondo seminars. Thank heavens DS6 doesn't have baseball practice or we'd be in trouble :laughing

I knew that :rolleyes1 :upsidedow and you're probably right....we probably did discuss that at some point. 8th grade language arts for me.

Are y'all going the week of Christmas or right after??? We were there the day after and it was really crowded....however....the FP+ was a huge help. On the 27th, we got to the MK for EMH at 7am and had Fantasy Land completely finished by 8:30ish. We were able to ride everything we wanted since we kind of planned out the day. We left attractions like People Mover, Carousel of Progress, Laugh Floor, Country Bear Jamboree, etc. for the afternoon when there were 2-3 hour waits. It worked out really well for us.

Again, another :grouphug: for the teachers! And I feel you @ TKD - DH is a black belt and DD is green... he tries to do joint classes but has to do high belt work sometimes so I get to run around between dance, TKD, and ensuring LO is on schedule! Sometimes we even tag-off - I take DD to dance then drop her at TKD with DH so I can run home and get LO fed! :rolleyes

You give me hope for Christmas - we will be going the week leading into the actual holiday, leaving Christmas Day! I was looking at TP's historical crowds for the past 2 years and it looks like it gets crowded each day leading up to Christmas and then insane the week between Christmas/New Year's so I am hoping we can catch some of the lead in... *fingers crossed*

Happy Be-lated Valentine Greetings To All!

I am so far behind not sure I will ever catch up:sad2:

Been dreaming about another trip but not knowing what the future holds do to Bella's condition which is the same. I can not wait for nice weather so that we can get a bit more aggressive with her and hopefully able to venture outside with her.

We are considering getting her a Doggie wheelchair if the traction socks, sling and rear leg lift do not work.

Waiting on another storm later today another 2-4 inches and then there is one coming Mon into Tues and guess who has a Dr Appt for Tues. I tried to call to cancel yesterday but the office was closed due to the snow :crazy2:

Hope everyone is well :goodvibes

:grouphug: I am so sorry about Bella... it's so hard to have a furbaby hurting. I hope you can find the best solution that makes her (and you) happy. *HUGS*

Stay safe in the snow! We're having off/on snow showers -- so over it!

You do def feel the room difference between deluxe and POR but it's still manageable. I also enjoyed the mansion rooms more than AB but the family liked AB better - a mixed blessing of being split up was we got to see both rooms. I do like the dividing curtain for privacy in the sink area, though.

I hadn't thought of your FP+ strategy but that's brilliant -- I had just assumed grabbing first of the morning or late in the day but I like having a couple hours to ride and then having FP to carry through the rest of the morning.

----------------------------------------------------------
More snow today... UGH! Thinking tropical thoughts: :beach:

The ONE silver lining of all this snow is DH's squadron does a ski weekend in March and 2 years ago we had nuthin', last year was decent, but this year they already have a HUGE base... so, at least there's that! No skiing for me but can't wait to get LO down for a nap and enjoy a hot tub surrounded by snow!!! :sunny:

HAPPY WEEKEND TO ALL!!!

We did 12/17-12/25 this past trip and it was absolutely fabulous! With a combo of a few RDs and FP+ we did everything we wanted to easily. I would do this time frame again in a heartbeat. I think you will absolutely love it! :cool1:

OOOH - I may need to pick your brain!

I'm so anxious not just for the holiday but because we're staying SOG and I am not sure how well it will work doing same day reservations, esp with such a large group!

Also - I have seen some people talking about great rates around our time frame in September so was thinking of touching base with a TA to see if they had anything to offer. Is it tacky to email and say we're currently booked at a military rate but was wondering if they had anything better? I don't want to be rude but I also don't want to give false pretenses if they can't beat the rate... I know they make commission and I don't want to waste time or lead anyone on. TIA!!!

Speaking of tacky, DH and I are having a disagreement regarding a potential situation for the holiday trip: I'm afraid we will miss out on MVMCP by one day so I said I thought that the four of us should head down a day early so we can catch it. He thinks it would be rude to the rest of the family, but I sort of feel that we should take advantage of having a trip around the holidays by grabbing the opportunity. I see where he is coming from but I hate to miss an opportunity - we've wanted to do the Christmas Party since we lived in FL and kept missing potential dates. Thoughts?

Can you mention it to the rest of the family too? Then if any others can and want to, fine. But if not, you would have at least told them...? And then you can enjoy the party regardless! :-)

Honestly, even with same day FP+, I think you'll be fine. We mainly used FP+ to re-ride favorites in the evenings, but there were many days we didn't even use it all. Although to be fair, we are not a ride heavy family and have always spent our fair share of time just hanging out. If you are used to riding a ton, you may not be happy. :confused3

I don't think it's tacky to ask about a better rate at all. I do know that the TA that some of us are using only has certain time frames available for booking the great rates. The latest one I've seen from them covers 8/17-9/2, but you can sometimes get the rate a little later. Like I'm using 8/2-8/12 on a deal that supposedly is only for 8/2-8/9. I don't remember your dates, but it's probably worth checking in to. :thumbsup2

I highly recommend doing the MVMCP. It was such a highlight of or trip. We did the second to the last party and it was super quiet the whole night. We got a front row seat for the second parade 10 minutes before it started in Frontierland. :cool1: I LOVE the Christmas parade at night and the Celebrate the Season show at the castle stage is awesome! :dance3:

You've seriously got me considering upgrading to AP's again in August so we can go back at Christmas again. I loved it soooooo much! Our next planned trip after August was going to be March 2015, so it just might work out.... I'll have to do some serious Disney math tonight. :rolleyes1

Good luck with everything! Feel free to ask if you have more questions :goodvibes

So I tweaked all of my ADRs so I have things set no matter which of the 3 scenarios we decide on later...LOL. Crazy I know...now if only the July discounts would be announced soon! :-) only 145 more days!

Good Morning!

Here's a little sunshine for everyone (thought we might need it)... brought to you from Disney's beautiful Castaway Cay :goodvibes

Have a meeting early this morning at the school, then hopefully I'll be back so I can catch up and make replies to all.

Think Disney sunshine and stay warm! :beach:
Heather

Heather, It's snowing now, 6 more inches tomorrow, and it's not bothering me at all. A glance at your Castaway Cay photo, and the cold weather matically melts away!! Thanks for posting!!! I'm just thinking warm sand, beautiful sun, and an umbrella drink in my hand. :goodvibes

That's probably a good idea; I know most of them can't make it down earlier (or I would REALLY push that to avoid crowds) but I also think since we have the opportunity we should seize it! :cool1:

I'm hoping that will work for us - I see late evenings working better than the early RDs (7am is a hard time to plan for with two toddlers). My thought is to catch the non-AM EMH park at RD, go back to the hotel after lunch, then head out for later evening. My question about FP+ is if I can reserve one park while in another - for instance, if we do AK in the AM, can I hit a kiosk and reserve some PM rides at HS?

DH was very adamant that this would be an 'ambiance' trip and that any rides we should be able to squeeze in are bonus. It's hard because we took my MIL, FIL, BIL and his wife to Disney with us last trip in June and while there we had tons of complaints (and I rocked that planning, TBH!) Now, they speak highly of the trip (part of the reason other SIL who is NOT into Disney agreed to holidays there) and have nothing but glowing reviews. I have sent them pictures of how the parks are decked out and DH went into elaborate detail about the stuff we saw on the Yuletide Tour so I do think they will enjoy the ambiance... just hope it's enough!

We're going in mid-September so I am HOPING there might be something. I'm content with WL but if I could swing YC or Poly for a great rate, I wouldn't balk! :thumbsup2 I just don't want to create unnecessary work for someone...

I am DYING to hit MVMCP - and to do it and MNSSHP the same year! :faint: We've been wanting to go for years and just never timed it right - DH has had trips to Jacksonville but they always just missed the parties, otherwise we would have tagged along and spent a fun weekend at the magic!

LOL - I can see you telling DH now: "It's not my fault! Dimndgal is the one making me do this!!!"

Thanks for all the info! Making the holidays seem less 'scary'!

So I tweaked all of my ADRs so I have things set no matter which of the 3 scenarios we decide on later...LOL. Crazy I know...now if only the July discounts would be announced soon! :-) only 145 more days!

PERFECT! I think it's a great way to plan - now you have the freedom to go with what feels best!

---------------------------------------------------------

I am literally a month away from making ADRs for Sept trip and I still have no calendar! :confused3 Isn't that late for Disney? Am I missing it somewhere???

Just got the girls registered for their next softball season!! Excited because they get to be on the same team this year...sooooo much easier! :thumbsup2. Though, with the amount of snow on the ground, it will be interesting to see when the field opens....

DH coaches, and I am Team mom. Our friends also coach with us and their girls are on the team too, so we are super psyched about our team this year!

ADR day is tomorrow....I am letting IPO do it for the 1st time....we'll see what happens!!! If nothing else....BFF made her ADRS this morning and got 'Ohana for all 9 of us at a great time, so if IPO gets a better time, we will just cancel hers.

Can't wait until that part is all done! :cool1:

No, but it sounds and looks amazing!! I think I'd like to do CL sometime just for the breakfast/snacks and wine!!

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

That is probably all we would use it for.

We have several times. It's totally wonderful. I want to go back again, so we may split our stay in the fall.
The apps and snacks are yummy, nice wines, and the atmosphere is so relaxing. Add in having Jiko, Boma and Saana nearby, and it's a winner. One thing we try to do is eat a late lunch at Saana once or twice when we're there. It's nice to enjoy their food, and then have light snacks in the lounge later. I'm a big fan of AKL CL, can you tell? :rotfl:
Their IPO is great, too. They are very helpful, and responsive when you ask a question, or need help. :thumbsup2

I think the only thing is my friend is worried about the buses. I don't remember having any issue with buses, but when she stayed at the AKL she said they have problems with it.

Wookie.... we LOVED AKL CL!!! ::yes:: Awesome!!!! And gwynne is right on about the level of service. That's one of the reasons we liked it so much. And Saana was a fabulous lunch option for us....again, great service and great food!!!

Thanks, if we stick with it, it will be the first time I have stayed CL. I just have to make sure my friend is an into the AKL option.

Hope all is well in the North with this crazy weather! Things are looking up down South...we actually have sun and temperatures in the 50s today.

Heather:goodvibes

Our weather is looking great this week. The lowest high is 69.

Just popping in to say hi from Disney! We've had a great trip so far, our MBs have worked great, apart from when I lost mine at MK last night. I had to get it reissued and guess what? It doesn't work to open the room. And CBR's front desk is all the way to one side of the resort.

I hope you get all the ADRs you wanted. Our ADR day is March 2, and I think my friend is going to make them. On this trip, the only one I am picky on is the one for Crystal Palace. I would love to get an 8 AM ADR, so we can walk through the park before it opens.

Yesterday was mostly spent cooking. I made lasagna with homemade spaghetti sauce. For dessert, I made 'Ohana's bread pudding with bananas foster sauce. As as added bonus, I didn't burn down my mil's kitchen when I flambeed it. They went out of town for the weekend, so it's been nice to be just the four of us.

So...opinions...

Better to get an 8am ADR before the park opens and plan on being done right around park opening OR be there for RD, ride some things, and break for a late breakfast ADR at 10:30am? (FP+ rides for afternoon/evening)

I think the plan is to get an 8 AM ADR, and then stay at the MK until around lunch. Then we'll grab a CS to go from the CR, rent a pontoon boat, and eat lunch while we're out on the boat. Then we might go back to the resort for a bit, before heading back to the MK for PM EMH until midnight.

I vote for the early 8 am ADR only because personally my group must eat an early breakfast. The late time slot wouldn't work for us. I would be toooo hungry! Lol;)

We always go with the early ADR v. a late morning. I have found it tends to set the day up well - DD was always already up so might as well knock out a meal and M&G, we got into the park pre-opening, and it keeps from restricting the flow of the day (for instance, if you had a 10a CP ADR, you'd have to make sure you were on that side of the park around that time v. knocking out a few extra rides on Space or Dumbo)

I think different things work for different groups, but our last few trips have followed this routine and I'm hoping the next one works just as well! Good luck with nailing everything down!

Good Morning All!!!

8th grade? Much respect! :-) I started in middle school...ended up in high school for 5 years, then tried to go back to MS...not a good fit... :-) sticking to HS now! (Or college would be even better!) lol

College would be nice!!! I've thought about high school, but I'm very comfortable where I am....been at the same school for 10 years, so it's kind of like family. Plus DS12 is there with me and the two youngest are next door at the elementary school....guess I'm staying put for a while

So glad to see you, Shelia!! :goodvibes Sorry about Bella. It's never easy watching our pets go through so much.

Waiting on another storm later today another 2-4 inches and then there is one coming Mon into Tues and guess who has a Dr Appt for Tues. I tried to call to cancel yesterday but the office was closed due to the snow.

You're kidding??!! More snow?! Crazy, isn't it??!! Y'all need some warm weather for sure!!! Think Disney!!!!!

I like CBR, but I don't love it. The rooms are a tad dated, although clean and the beds are comfy. Too many bus stops as well, it takes 15 mins just to get out of the resort.

We've considered staying at CBR just to see what it's all about. The bus situation isn't sounding too promising, though

Crowds have been pretty light, lighter then I was expecting. We had to waste a few FP+ reservations because the ride only had a 10 minute wait and we didn't want to ride twice in a row.

Excellent news!!! Light crowds!!! Glad things are going well!!!!

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Love that place!!!!!

Good advice!!! I like that area, too. Unfortunately for us, we would have to get a room with the Murphy bed which means less storage. Of course that would deter me from going

Thanks! Teaching definitely has it's problems, but the pros outweigh the cons. I'm fortunate to be in an excellent school system.

And just wait to all 3 of your kids are doing different after school activities  Life gets crazier than ever .... but fun! ;)

Y'all will have a blast! You're right about the New Year's crowds....:scared1: Way busy!!! The decorations are out of this world beautiful! You won't be sorry that you experienced Disney at Christmas.

Waving hi to everyone else! :wave2:

Speaking of tacky, DH and I are having a disagreement regarding a potential situation for the holiday trip: I'm afraid we will miss out on MVMCP by one day so I said I thought that the four of us should head down a day early so we can catch it. He thinks it would be rude to the rest of the family, but I sort of feel that we should take advantage of having a trip around the holidays by grabbing the opportunity. I see where he is coming from but I hate to miss an opportunity - we've wanted to do the Christmas Party since we lived in FL and kept missing potential dates. Thoughts?

NOT tacky at all!!! We did the same thing when my sister's family went on a cruise with us....we went down several days before and enjoyed our time at the AKL CL. Give them the option of joining....if they can't, they can't;)

:beach:

Oh wow!! More snow!!! Positive thoughts of Disney will always make things better

Well that makes life much easier:thumbsup2 Now y'all don't have to run around all over the world chasing the kids....or at least you don't have to do as much chasing ;)

ADR day is tomorrow....I am letting IPO do it for the 1st time....we'll see what happens!!! If nothing else....BFF made her ADRS this morning and got 'Ohana for all 9 of us at a great time, so if IPO gets a better time, we will just cancel hers.

Excellent!!! Can't wait to hear all about it! I'll be waiting ;)

Bless your heart  Just think....it will all be over soon. And you can do this, girlie!!! :thumbsup2
