:mickeyjum “I like your muscles”- a Post-Christmas and NYE trip January 2014 :mickeyjum

Well hello there! Welcome to my fourth trip report here on the Disboards! If you followed me over from my most recent TR "It's a Nice Song, But They Won't Stop Singing!" or if this is our first meeting, welcome to you all!! This trip was my first trip during the holiday season in a VERY long time, and I am SO EXCITED to share it all with you!

There were a lot of firsts on this trip including Magic Bands and Fast Pass+. We saw some new things and rode new rides. ALSO it was FREEZING! That’s a first for me!!! I mean, who knew I would escape the cold to go to….. the cold?? Florida does not equal cold to me, and even though I understand seasons and temperatures do change in the Sunshine State as well, I have visited in the summer for the last 10+ years! It was definitely a shock to wear pants, jackets, and hats in Disney World.

Anyway, before I get too carried away, let me introduce the trip!!

The cast of characters:
Me!- My name is Emma! I am 20 years old, and I live in Vermont with my Dad and go to college in New Hampshire. I work at a Gap Outlet in between school and home, and I live in an apartment off campus with my boyfriend, Troy (the star of my last TR), during the school year. I want to be an elementary school teacher when I grow up, and I’m currently a junior in college. I have been a Disney girl since before I was born, and my Mom is the one to thank for that! I just love everything Disney, and I am known to gasp and RUN to the nearest piece of Disney merchandise and jump up and down when I’m out in the “real world.” This embarrasses said boyfriend, but he’s getting used to it. ANYWAY. Let’s move on.

Mom aka Zuzu03 here on the boards- Mom is the reason for my Disney obsession. She introduced me to it, and she feeds my addiction. She’s my best friend, and even though we are 1,500 miles apart, we try to talk as much as possible. If you don’t know the story, I suggest reading my last TR because I give much more detail, but my Mom moved down to Naples, Florida with my Step Dad this summer. She’s about 3 and a half hours south of Disney, so she gets up there whenever she can. Mom is a high school French teacher and is my inspiration for my future career path. I love spending time with her, and it is hard being so far apart. It was great to visit her this trip, and I can’t wait until she comes up to visit in March!

The motivation for the trip:

It had been five months since my last trip in July which is far too long. Also, it was the holiday season, and I needed to see my Mom! So, we set this trip up a couple months ago. The way my school schedule fell made it so I couldn’t go down before Christmas, so the week after had to do.

The when and where:

My flight left on December 28, 2013 and arrived in Fort Myers at midnight. We spent the first few days in Naples, and then on January 1, 2014, we drove up to Disney, and my plane left Orlando on January 4, 2014. Even though it was a short Disney trip, I thought I should do a trip report. Disney still had the Christmas decorations up, we stayed at a new resort, and heck, I want to relive the Disney magic as much as possible!!!!!

For the Disney portion of our trip, we stayed in the Little Mermaid section of Art of Animation which was AMAZING!!! I’m super excited to share pictures because that resort is just so perfect!!!

I think that pretty much covers it! Oh! So, I will have a couple of posts about the first few days of the trip just because we did some fun things, and I have pictures to share. If you are not interested in seeing cute hockey players or a gorgeous beach, you can skip ahead to our first Disney day post that I will link here: It's DISNEY DAY!!!

If everyone is neat and pretty, on with the show!!

:jumping1:

12 Hours to go 1,500 miles
December 28, 2013
Day 1

I woke up at 7am this day because even though my flight wasnt until later in the afternoon, I had my little brothers basketball game to attend. FYI- I have two little brothers from my Dads second marriage with my Step Mom. Anyhoo, we loaded into the car, and we drove over to the high school for his game. Hes only in fifth grade, but they play their home gyms at the high school. I believe his game started at 9am, so we were done by 10:30. We went back home, and my Dad, Step Mom, and two brothers had to head over to my grandmothers house to help her set up for the Christmas party that was later that day. I would be missing it which was very sad, but I was also going to Florida to see my Mom that day!!! After they left around 11, I made sure all of my bags were packed and that I had everything together and ready to go.

Troy finally showed up around 12:50, and after locking myself out of the house while loading the car, we left around 1:15pm.

He made it into the TR!!

We made it to the Burlington International Airport at a little after 2. It took FOREVER to find a parking space which makes sense because of all of the Christmas travelers! We finally parked on the roof of the parking garage in the snow. I was freezing because I was dressed in yoga pants, a 3 quarter sleeve t-shirt and a light fleece over the top. NOT the correct attire for single degree weather. I checked in and checked my bags, and I was through security by 2:55. There was a bit of drama finding my gate since the monitors are never correct at this airport. Once I found and asked an agent where my gate was, everything was fine!

I boarded the plane by 3:20 to find that my plane had propellers. Eek was right! I had the window seat, and honestly I dont remember much from this flight. All I remember was how small the seats were and how low the ceiling was. I read some books and listened to some Disney podcasts. We took off at 4:10 and landed at 5:05. The most amazing part of this trip was the view of the NYC skyline coming in to Newark airport. I was STUNNED. I almost cried because it was so gorgeous! I didnt want to take any pictures because the man sitting next to me was straining to see out the window also, so I didnt want to stick my phone or camera up in his way. ANYWAY. I got off the plane and realized that I was STARVING! I knew I had to find my gate first, so that was my priority. I got a bit turned around, but I found a map and was all good. Once I saw my gate and made sure my plane was leaving from there, I made my way toward the FOOD.

I ate at a Mediterranean restaurant/café called La Tapenade. The reviews on Foursquare said that the food wasnt very good, but of course I didnt see that until AFTER I bought my food and sat down. However, I thought it was pretty delicious!! I got the tomato caprese baguette with chips and a soda.

And I think they also gave me couscous, but I didnt eat any of it!

I thought it was a great lunch/dinner. I sat there for a while and went on Twitter texted my Mom, Step Mom, and Troy. After lounging for a bit, I decided to go get a smoothie at Jamba Juice and head back to my gate. OMG I got the banana berry smoothie IT WAS SO GOOD OMG!!!!!! So freaking yummy!!

I made my way back to my gate to plop myself down for the next three hours to wait for my flight. I plugged into some Disney music and continued reading.

It was a long day...

I apologize for my state of appearances in that picture, but I just had to show how pathetically yucky I looked/felt!

At about 8 we got a gate change announcement, so I followed the masses to our new gate where I watched the news and became very antsy! FINALLY we boarded at 8:45 and left 30 minutes later!! We landed at 12am, and I ran off the plane! I was so excited to see Mom and Dan again!!

We collected my bag and got in the car to head home. Once we got home around 1am, I was starving! I found some leftover chicken salad, chopped up some avocado, and crackers. It was a delicious little snack, and we hung out a bit before we went to bed around 2am. I was so tired!!

I apologize for the text-heavy boring-ness of travel days! I promise there will be more pictures later!!

Joining in.

Sounds like a good travel day. I had to fly on a propeller plane once in a tropical storm. :scared1: I was not happy.

NYC skyline is gorgeous. Night time is beyond gorgeous. :lmao:

Looking forward to reading more.

Joining in! Sounds like a fun trip!

As someone who has had to fly out of Bangor, ME I feel you on the horribleness of small planes/prop planes.

Glad you made it to Florida without any delays!

Cute Hockey Players part I
December 29, 2013
Day 2

This morning I woke up at 9:30am and ate a chocolate croissant for breakfast. I opened my presents from Christmas and got ready for the day. Just a few samples/highlights from the morning:

We left by 12:15 and got to Carrabbas by 12:40. I had never been there before, so I was excited to try it out. We ordered a bruschetta to start, but it wasnt very good. I had the chicken parmesan panini which wasnt a panini, but it was still good.

We were headed to a Florida Panthers hockey game against the Montreal Canadians. Since Mom is from Montreal, she is a big fan. We wore our Carey Price jerseys to lunch!

We left by 1:45pm and headed across Alligator Alley. We stopped at a rest stop to use the bathroom,

but we made it to the BB&T center by 3:30.

There were SO MANY Habs fans there! Like more than Panthers fans!! It was crazy. Mom and I got seats six rows back for this game, and Mom and Step Dad have season tickets up in the nose bleed section, Step Dad sat up there. We were right up at the glass waiting for the players to come out to warm up.

Say hi to Step Dad wayyyyy up there!!!

Are you ready for some gorgeous hockey player action??

Oh hey Carey!

He may or may not be my mom's favorite person ever!

And he might be mine...

Cute Hockey Players part II
December 29, 2013

Our Tim Thomas who was recently traded from the Bruins to the Panthers and he graduated from the University of Vermont!

Ok, I’m almost done with the cute hockey players!

We went up to our seats in the sixth row, and we were seated next to a Floridian who is originally from Canada. He speaks fluent French, so my Mom and him chatted it up.

We were so close to the ice!!

Excuse me while I wipe my drool off…

Oh hey Carey!

It was a really good game and during the first intermission, I got cheese fries!!

The habs ended up losing 4-1 which was sad, but it was still a good game. The game was over by 7:30. Dan wasn’t feeling very good, so we dropped him off at home.

Breakfast for Dinner!
December 29, 2013

Mom and I went to IHOP for dinner around 9:30pm.

I ordered the cinnamon hot chocolate which was amazing!!

Mom had a salted caramel hot chocolate which was also soooo good!!

I had the strawberry white chocolate pancakes which were literally like candy.

Mom got the peaches and cream brioche French toast combo with eggs and sausage because they were out of bacon.

After our carb overload, we went back home. We looked at the pictures I took from the game and went to bed.
