Just got back today from a week at WDW. Stayed at AKL using DVC points, purchased UT tickets, which we linked to bands on MDE, set up FP+ ahead of time, etc.
A few thoughts based on our experience:
- Like DWJoshua, we had a good experience with the bands, i.e. no issues and were easy to use for park entry, charging, FP+ entrances, etc.
- We also didn't have any issues with the FP+ selections, including changing selections and times on the fly for a couple of them.
- The MDE app was very helpful, especially with changing FP+ selections and times.
- We combined our preferences with the priority list posted here to determine what FP+ to select. I didn't catch that there are certain attractions that only utilize FP+, i.e. no FP-, as indicated by the * in mesaboy's priority list. It didn't affect us all that much except when we wanted to pull FP- for some of those attractions so that we could ride again but weren't able to. I'm just pointing this out for others trying to decide what FP+ to choose.
- Because we bought UT tickets and were staying at AKL, we assumed we would be able to triple dip with FP, using FP+ as well as UT tickets and KTTW cards for FP-. However, the FP- machines would not let us use the UT tickets for FP-, as we received a message (on the FP- ticket) that said, "This ticket was not used for park entry (or something similar)." We did use our bands for entry but, as I mentioned, we linked the UT tickets to our bands, and I thought (based on reading other posts previously) this would allow UT tickets to be used for FP-...but they didn't work for us.
- That said, we had no issues using our KTTW cards for FP-.
- In addition, this week (the week before Christmas) was a great week to go to WDW, as the crowds were relatively light, depending on the park, time of day, and area of a given park.
- BTW, if you arrive for a FP+ attraction that you scheduled and the standby wait is short, i.e. short enough where you don't mind waiting, don't forget to use the MDE app and try and change your FP+ selection to something else before you scan your band. You may not be able to get anything else, but it's worth a shot since your FP+ is basically offering no value at that point.
