the sound of music live

Carrie is over-singing the parts, and her acting is C minus. It's not so bad, but let's face it...this act is not only difficult to follow--it's probably impossible.

I wasn't expecting Julie Andrews. But, I DID expect better acting & singing than THIS. :sad2:

Rolf can act & sing. He will still have a career after this show is over. :lmao:

The servants can act too.

Carrie Underwood is awful.

The orchestra is fantastic. The real actors are doing a great job.

...why are they singing this now?! This doesn't make sense haha. It is cute with Carrie Underwood though :)

The kids probably couldn't work the puppets, so they changed where the song comes. Plus, if they sang "Favorite Things" again, it would have been for the third time.

Well I really like it.

I do too and I think Carrie is doing a great job for someone who isn't a stage actress.

If you don't compare her to Julie Andrews and take it for what it is (someone else playing the role) it's not so bad!

Is anyone else getting a constant sound like microphone feedback under it all? Its driving me crazy!

And if we can have an African American mother superior why not one of the American Idol girls like Fantasia or Jennifer as Maria? They have huge ranges and understand the emotions behind it all....

I think it's pretty entertaining and it's a great family show. It's a refreshing change to watch something in prime time with my kids and not worry about the content! Better than some of the other crap that's on tv!

Yes, I hear it too.

Christian Borle!!

I disagree. that shouldn't be the standard for acceptability. That's like saying, "It's okay for a mediocre level." How about getting someone who CAN act as well as sing?

I'm very biased, I'll admit it. I have friends who are Broadway gypsies. They go from one Broadway show to another. They work their buns off to constantly improve. They STILL take acting AND singing classes all the time because they know they won't get hired if they are mediocre. No one accepts that level for them.

I think the changes are mostly to fit the time slot. They're moving through it quickly, so some songs and story line items had to be moved to earlier scenes. Feels a little off, but mostly bc I'm so used to the other version.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I don't think she's mediocre. I think she's doing a good job. :goodvibes

Uh, folks, they are following the 1959 stage production script. You know, what Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel did every night. The songs are in tge correct order.

If you saw a live production and you didn't see this, it's because many productions incorporate material from the movie.

Why does that matter? Understand the emotions? :confused3

Whatever, I don't know much about Carrie Underwood, but she sings nicely.

I also like the woman playing his girlfriend!

This is the stage version, not the movie version. They do the songs in a different order on the stage.

I think Carrie is doing a good job, her acting could be better. I'm sure NBC wanted someone with some star power, a name that everyone had heard. The actor playing the Captain is too young for the role.
