Gluten Free Dining at the Disneyland Resort: A Superthread

Does anyone know if the macaroni and cheese on the kids menu at Cafe Orleans is available gluten free? I think you can get rice noodles for the spaghetti, but what about the Mac and cheese? Dd loved the mac at storytellers.

If it's the same Mac & cheese they sell at French Market, then probably not, it's pre made Stouffers. They can substitute rice noodles for the other kids entrees, so there might be a chance. But I know at Pizza Port & Boardwalk Pizza they put the sauce & pasta together "in house," so they can substitute.

Thanks!! I was pretty sure that was the case. :( chicken and noodles will be fine, and the pomme frites should make her happy!

Hi all - I'm gluten-free and will be going to DLR for the first time in 2 weeks. Does anyone know if there are GF holiday cookies, cupcakes, or cake pops? Thanks! :goodvibes

I know some have mentioned Mickey Macarons (as in the French/Italian version), not an American Macaroon, are sometimes sold in the Parks. They are gluten free.

I would not expect to see any GF treats. All their GF treats are not made in house but pre-packaged items.

We are going to bring our own goodies into the parks for my dd. You can enjoy the tigger tails and the candy apples, they're gluten free (not sure about any cross contamination though? We're not celiac so aren't as concerned with that) the rice Krispy treats are safe too... We got the Christmasy ones last year. Dd enjoyed it immensely ! :)

Thank you SO much for this thread!!! We were so happy to find that Disneyland does such a great job offering gluten free options.

I wanted to mention that we just got back from being there and my daughter had a celiac reaction (diarrhea) after getting ice cream. She is really severe and we think she had cross contamination when they scooped her ice cream. Just wanted to say to watch for that.

Thanks again!

Are you sure? I never trust any crisped rice cereal stuff unless it specifically states "gluten free" Usually they still use barley flavoring. Does anyone have confirmation on this? I'm sure my Celiac DS and DD would love these if they are really GF.

I saw some photos of fudge with peppermint bark, I think that would be GF.

I'm not Celiac, so I don't have a strong reaction if I have a bit of gluten accidentally. I usually feel it the next morning when I wake up, I feel like I haven't slept at all. So weird.

Sorry! I shouldn't have phrased it that way. I'm not certain they're totally gluten free, as we're not celiac and aren't as sensitive... My dd didn't have any trouble when she had one last year. I wonder if you could ask at guest services?

Does anyone with gluten sensitivity have any experience with the Fantasmic dessert party?

We may have a chance to go close to Christmas and I was thinking about trying to get reservations as a fun holiday surprise. There's 3 of us and only 1 with gluten issues.

I'm not sure if they can/will accommodate or if they do, the desserts just aren't that tasty to make it worth while.

I'm going to call and talk with the dining people but wanted to ask here as well.

I am so happy I found this thread! We had a hard time last trip finding gf items. I didn't know about the pizza or pasta. Yay

So thankful to have found this thread! My 13 yo son and I are going to be in the parks for 3 days next month. He has a wheat allergy and is lactose intolerant. Makes for difficult dining! The list at the beginning is very helpful but I think I will also contact the special needs dining for up to date info. I will be sure to post here if I get any helpful info from them. It's hard to be so limited with food, especially at DL, but we are determined to make the best of it.

Aloha!

I was at Disneyland for my very first visit yesterday. I had a good and a not-so-good experience, asking for GF food.

First the not-so-good - I'd read positive reviews about the GF options at DCA's Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta. I went at a slow time, 11:30 AM - no lunch crowd yet, the place was deserted. Apparently, the chef had also left, because 3 different counter-service CMs couldn't find the chef to go over the GF options available to me. The other 2 in my party had already gotten their lunches by this time, so I told the CMs to forget it and I'd just have a salad. There were 3 types of salad pre-made - one CM knew enough to tell me to have the Italian salad, as the other 2 weren't GF. They didn't offer to make me a GF salad of the other 2 varieties, either, despite just standing there with no one else in line. The salad was fine, but if I go back to DCA, I won't be going there again.

The next experience was much better - we needed a breather around 5:00 PM, and I needed to charge my phone. So we found a table in the lounge at the Carthay Circle restaurant and ordered drinks. The server seemed somewhat frazzled, but she was very willing to go ask the chef about GF options. She cleared the queso dish for me as being GF (and it was good). I had asked about the Vietnamese beef tacos - the chef told her the beef was already mixed with soy sauce that contained gluten. So I asked if any of the spring rolls could be made GF - the server told me the chef would use a rice roll, but instead they came out in lettuce wraps. Not a huge deal, as she pointed out that they added some fresh veggies and also some seasoning to the chicken. I thought they were quite tasty. My brother thought they were just fine. But at least I had an alternative. My brother and our friend had the chorizo flatbread (not GF) and really enjoyed it.

And of course, I enjoyed my Dole Whip, always GF. :)

Hmmm...so some good, some not so good experiences! I sent an email to disney about getting more info, but no reply as of yet. Made a reservation at blue bayou and noted the allergies so hopefully that will go smoothly!

Great information everyone and so helpful! This will be our first trip since my husband found out he's gluten intolerant. While he's nowhere near as sensitive as those with celiac, it's still a little nerve-wracking this time.

Question for those of you that have had good/bad experiences at the DLR while going gluten free. What would be the best or worst or both restaurant you found for gf folks? Thank you! :)
