Yes, you can use it at other resorts. We had some QS credits to use, so zipped over to Movies to eat at the food court and the mugs worked there too (we were staying at BWV).

We got our new mugs last month. We are headed back in December for Christmas celebration. Can I use my old mugs and pay for the usage instead of getting another mug?

I dunno, but would love it if you could. We go to WDW 3 times a year and having 15 mugs a year just doesn't seem eco-friendly. We would gladly pay to re-activate the older mugs with chips.

No you can't. You have to get new ones. According to Disney they can't be reactivated.

I plan on taking back my mug in March....but for ice water. I usually get bottled water but I'm fine with water from the soda machines and I'm not going to have a car in March. Also doing a value stay so I figure I'll be doing more CS resort meals than normal.

I used my RFID mug exactly twice in October (one soda and one lemonade). Got it with free dining. If I'm just using it to get water (which I assume is on the lemonade dispenser) the RFID chip won't matter right? I'd hate to have them give me a cup just for ice water when I could fill up my old mug and save them the waste.

I'm just not a soda drinker and I do ice coffee not hot so I'm not going to buy another one. (I have an old non RFID one that I bought for a weeklong stay and only used it maybe 4 or 5 times, so I just can't justify buying another mug when I would prefer water and have two perfectly good mugs that I could use for that purpose).

If not then I'll just let them give me a free paper cup of water but I'd really rather use the old mugs and have a lid and take it with me.

Honestlly, the Disney mugs don't hold much. In your case, after you add ice, you won't have much space for water in your Disney mug. I would buy a bigger sized container with lid and bring that with you. I like the clear insulated cups that have the screw-on lid and straw that won't come out. That way you can use it at AK. Outside AK front gates, there's a coffee stand where I get an iced latte. They give you a cup with no lid or straw. I pour this into my special insulated cup and it stays pretty cool. Disney has their own version of this cup that I've seen at World of Disney. It's probably in the bigger park stores, too.

Oh I was just talking about at the Resort with meals or to take back to my room.

I totally do the free ice water in the parks and carry a water bottle in the morning then just keep refilling it with the cups in the parks throughout the day. I just don't want to have to go in the resort and get a paper cup to fill at the island if I could just use an older mug and go straight to the dispenser.

I'm hoping that an inactive chip won't make the dispenser at the resort withhold cold water.

Hi - you'll be fine. The water 'spigot' on the soda machines at the resorts works no matter what mug/cup you put under it - i.e., you only need an 'active' RFID chip to get the 'spigots' for soda to push in/actually pour soda. The tap water from the soda machines will work with your expired mug (or old mug, or your boy scout hands cupped...). HTH!

Is the drink "station" at BWV still at the bakery? How do they handle the RFID if (previously) they simply handed you a new paper cup after showing them the mug? I love being able to grab a coffee in the paper cup in the mornings before heading into Epcot w/o dirtying my mug. Thanks!

They remodeled the bakery and now there is a separate entrance for the Bakery side and a entrance for the Mug Refill side. You actually do it yourself now and they don't give you a cup. BUT, if you want tea, it seems they never allowed for a hot water dispenser, so you have to ask the CM for a cup of hot water (and a tea bag). People enter the bakery on one side, but exit out the door used for the mug refill section. THe rapid refill is only on soda machines.

Makes sense! Thank you! The last time we were at BWV was just before the remodel so I'd wondered what they were gonna do w/the refills. I like self-service so much better :goodvibes

I purchased refillable mugs in1993, they stated that they were good for future stays.

Me too, but we got nothing in writing and this thread says no dabates about it.

The One And Only Refillable Mug FAQ and Questions Thread (No Debate)

:confused3

I just got off the phone with customer service and the experience was not good. I called concerning the refillable mugs that we purchased in good faith in 1993. We have been loyal guest since 1981, and when our children we of age have been frequent visitors to Disney World. My daughter was married at the Grand Floridian last year. She is scheduled to arrive at Coronado Springs on Saturday.

I asked the representative about the new mug policy and what they would do to honor their commitment to me that the mugs that I purchased were good for all future stays. She basically said too bad!!! Our policy has changed and I will have to purchase new ones. I also asked to speak to a manager and was told that they would say the same thing, she wouldn't transfer me. I find this answer unacceptable. I understand policy changes but they usually grandfather prior commitments.

I expect Disney to honor their promise and would appreciate a reply as soon as possible.

I feel your pain. My Aunt and Uncle also bought "lifetime" mugs. After many phone calls and emails with Guest Services, they were told that the mugs they purchased were good for unlimited refills for the lifetime of that program. That program ended when the RFID Rapid Refill program started. They have been stonewalled everywhere they've tried. The GM of the CR had the same response when they brought them with them for their trip last month.

Does anyone have a picture of the new mugs? Would like to see one.

OH are there new mugs??? Oh yes please post picture!!! We go in two weeks and I am so hoping to see new mugs!!!!:banana:

The design hasn't changed except for the fact that it now includes the Rapid Refill logo. It does however come in new colors - orange, purple and green.
