Top of the world lounge??

We were asked to show both of our membership cards.

This is like an oasis! When we stay at VGF, this will be our thing.

So cool, that is our plan too--with babies it seems like a low stress, stroller compatible way to watch fireworks and relax at the end of the day, with access to drinks for mom & dad

Wow, I have brought many friends. This is what the Member Site says:

Top of the World Lounge

Top of the World Lounge is located at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort.

Disney Vacation Club Members staying at any Disney-owned-and-operated hotel at Walt Disney World Resort (whether they booked with vacation points or cash) may enjoy access to one of the vacation kingdom's most exclusive spaces: Top of the World Lounge atop Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort through December 29, 2014 (blockout dates apply. Including but not limited to 12/30/13, 12/31/13, 7/3/14, and 7/4/14). Current operating hours are 6 p.m. to midnight.

This perk is available exclusively to Members and those in their traveling party who are staying on that Member's reservation. At least one Member in the traveling party must accompany the group and present his or her current Key to the World card displaying a Disney Vacation Club Membership notation in order to gain admission to the lounge and observation deck. If the Member's Key to the World card doesn't display a Membership notation, a Disney Vacation Club Member ID is required in addition to the Key to the World card to verify Membership.

Note that Members traveling from other Resorts must use Walt Disney World Transportation, as parking is unavailable to anyone not staying at Bay Lake Tower or Disney's Contemporary Resort. Upon arrival, Members must walk to the Bay Lake Tower main lobby entrance on the ground floor and check in at the Top of the World Lounge desk in the lobby.

This special Top of the World Lounge access is available on a first-come, first-served basis until the lounge reaches capacity. As the lounge is particularly popular during the Magic Kingdom fireworks, arriving as early as possible will give Members the best chance of gaining admission.

We weren't asked to show a KTTW card but did have our MBs on.

I suspect, like many things, it varies.

It's awesome!! Now ... Shhhhhhh!! Don't tell everyone... It's a nice hide-away from the crowds. And you feel all special and fancy going up in the private elevator. I love how I have to flash my DVC card. :)

There seems to be one CM that is a stickler for the member cards. They were not there on Oct 14th when I checked in! I only had to show my room key.

And this is my favorite:

I'm 99% certain the sign still said open at 6PM. I went over there a couple of weeks ago from BCV but not until a little after 9PM.

Can someone that is 100% certain tell me when opening time is. I'm only asking because I have reservations at the wave at 6:20 and then heading over to MVMCP. I would really like a little more time for a cocktail before dinner with some friends. And I also got conflicting info on another web site that said it opened at 5pm which may be a little outdated.:confused3

Our member site which I quoted says 6PM. I think that's the current opening time.

I don't remember what I had for an entrée, but the Prawns as appetizers were delicious! I was there early this month with some Disboard friends!

Enjoy your meal there!

It changed from 5pm to 6pm in May. I know because I was there the day it changed and info at the resort was still saying 5 so I went down then but had to wait.

Ok it isn't that you can't park there but you not supposed to park there. The rules for the TOTW lounge state no parking.

Thanks to all for correcting me. Obviously I was misinformed about this.

We were there in the latter half of July (busy time of the year), and, as I stated there were 1000's of open parking spots.

I think we all can agree that WDW is a bit nuts on their rules. I think they could have said: "You are allowed to park on-site, if capacity allows. If the resort parking is near capacity you will be asked to park in the MK parking area and take the Monorail"

As I mentioned before, as a group we spent a over $500 in food, drinks and merchandise. The least they can do is let me park there.

The other thing is that every night a server came out with a "counter" and counted all of the folks watching and in the Bar. Every night I asked him how many tonight? The highest count was 120ish! And, every person we spoke to over 3 nights were staying on-site.

Why do they strive to make things more complicated then need be?

They do it at BLT because parking spaces are really restricted. If there were many when you were there that's great. When we stayed at BLT in August we often drove in and were driving round and round looking for the last space. I don't think to be fair it is rules for the sake of rules this one is out of necessity most of the time. Some times if it is not too busy they let you in but sometimes they flat refuse.

Fair enough. It has never been my experience, but, fair enough.

When we were there in late July I would put that lot at less then 40% full. And, that is being generous.

If you look at Google Maps - on average we parked in the 4th row north and about in the 20th to 30th slot. Most rows north of us and to the west of us were vacant.

I do agree this would be different if there is a huge convention at the resort.

Where I disagree with you: It is my opinion that WDW makes these blanket rules so as to keep things simple for the guards. But, I think any logical person knows if it is busy or not. So, if you feel those guarding your property cannot make such a simple decision - how effective are they?

DVC set the rules for guests not staying at BLT. Would it be appropriate for a members not staying at BLT to go up to TOTWL on New Year's Eve just because that was most convenient for them?

If anyone doesn't like the rules DVC sets up for the enjoyment of the resorts (like pool hopping as well as lounge hopping), take it up with DVC instead of making the call yourself.
