Solo female - which hotel would I feel safer in?

congrats on deciding....POR is nice I'm sure. Never stayed there myself but it looks lovely.

I've stayed at POP, All Star Music, All Star Movies and AKL all solo female traveling with no issues. I usually ask for an upper level room at the values. I've come back late at night and the areas are always well lit and there are CMs around and other guests.

Fingers crossed you get the third night at PO. That would be a pain to switch resorts for one night.

Thank you everyone!

Well due to me apparently waiting too long to book a room at port Orleans, there was no longer a room open for the 3rd night I planned to be there. So I went ahead and booked 2 nights there and I'm probably going to book the last night at pop unless someone thinks there's a chance of the third night somehow being available in a month?

get on a wait list for POFQ, and if you don't want to move clear across property, book your last night at POR. I wouldn't give up hope of that third night. People cancel ressies all the time. Good Luck. +

How do you waitlist? I know I've heard of it for DVC, never heard of it for regular rooms.

I've stayed solo at many resorts and never felt unsafe at any of them. I usually stay at a moderate since I spend time at the resort but I was perfectly fine when I stayed at Pop too.

So go for it, save some money and stay at Pop.

For just a three night stay, you are going to lose time for that move between resorts. Pick a place you can stay the whole time. I'd've done solo at value, mod, and DVC..... I don't think you need to worry about safety. Be smart and leave the valuables at home and be aware of your surroundings and you'll be fine. I've be out way late and been in empty parks and walking through values in the wee hours of the morning after EMH. I've never felt unsafe.

I stayed solo at POP two years ago and really enjoyed it. That being said, I would request a building close to the main building. I had a fantastic room facing the lake, but it was the farthest building out. I went to MVMCP and didn't get back until about 1 am and was a bit nervous walking back to my room. I only passed 2 other guests.
If u are planning to stay out late, you may want to be a bit closer to the main building.
I would return in a heartbeat to POP for a solo trip!

I travel solo most of the time and I've stayed at nearly every Disney resort. I have never felt unsafe at any of them.

Just take the same precautions you would take anywhere else. I try not to go to my car in the parking lot after dark. When I get off the resort transportation, I kind of stay near others as long as I can. This is easier at the deluxe resorts where everyone usually goes through the lobby area than it is at resorts with exterior doors, but there's usually someone going in the same general direction. I make sure all the door locks are secured whenever I am in the room, so I won't be "surprised" by mousekeeping, maintenance, or even the possibility of another guest being assigned to the same room (rare, but it does happen). Sometimes, since I book room only, I will add another name to the room since there's no extra charges involved, so I don't appear to be staying alone. I've stayed on every floor, from ground floor to top floor, and never felt that one was better than another as far as safety is concerned.

So long as you keep your wits about you, you won't have a problem at whatever resort you end up visiting.

Your question reminds me of the hotel I stayed in the first time I went to London. They had an area that they advertised as special secure rooms for solo female travelers. You could only access the hallway by going through a door behind the front desk (it was a boutique hotel on the top floor of another building), and then they had extra locks on the doors besides. No one could get to those rooms without everyone at the front desk and the concierge knowing. I felt very safe there.

I don't think I would want to move if my trip were that short. I would see if POR were available all the nights since that is the area you have picked. ENJOY!

That said I travel, not quite solo, but with my DS who is disabled so it's mentally like traveling solo but being responsible for both of us. We have stayed at POP many times, prefer 50's Bldg 3 facing the lake. Extremely quiet and the lake/view to AoA was a plus. If you don't face a pool or first floor it should be quiet. The only time I have had noise issues at POP was when I made the mistake of letting them put us in the 90's, with the tour groups. We have even returned at 1-2am after parties, and there are plenty of CM walking around and it's very well lit.

The only places I felt uncomfortable was ASMu and CBR. ASMu our rooms both times were in Broadway and I was very uncomfortable. I am not a nervous person, street smart and comfortable on my own but the resort was extremely dark, I never saw any CMs beyond the main building and main pool, and numerous times saw security showing up at our building. CBR we were put both times in the farthest building. The last time there were only a couple cars in the lot, we saw no other people, it was extremely dark and slightly uncomfortable. Felt very isolated. Those are two resorts that at this point I don't plan to book again. The discomfort being one big reason.

Thanks everyone!

Well it turns out the reason I could not book the third night is because it's not apart of Port Orleans FL discount... Or something. The CM I talked to explained that the third night would have to be booked at full price so that is my plan. I'm just hoping there is still a night open when I get paid Friday so I can get the third night booked. I don't even really know how I ended up with a garden view room in the first place but that's cool!

I think I will book pop for my next trip, but this time I'm pampering myself a little. Honestly the ferry to DTD was what really sold me. Only because I've seen it so many times at DTD and always thought "how cool! I would love to stay at a hotel that offers that!"

I "may" have family coming up for a day, but ill be solo'ing it for most of the trip it looks like. I'm getting excited!

So excited for you. I stayed at POR my first time and love the French quarters looks. The ferry is awesome it was much quicker then anyother way.
Does teh 3rd night have to booked solo or cant it be added to your vacation package? If its a package ADD it on and tell them, ill pay "friday" they will work with you. if its a ROOM ONLY reservation(no tickets) then you can add that room on and pay for it when you get there.

Do you know what type of reservation you have? I dont know if for FL residents if your an annual passholder, or bought tickets or needed them.

I am an AP holder, I uses the FL discount because it was the same. I would love to have been able to do a dining plan but from what I'm reading that's not possible with just a hotel reservation?

I need to call back and see if it can just be added to my package, the CM I talked to told me to call them to make sure I will be in the same room and not transferred as if it were a brand new reservation

I'd personally feel safe at any of the WDW resorts but because of POP's large size, I'd feel more comfortable at POFQ, and even more so in a deluxe resort that offers interior hallways.

You can't put a price on safety and the price difference between POP and POFQ is just a couple hundred dollars; I'd book POFQ. It's such a quaint resort and everything is within a 5 minute walking distance.

Any chance you could afford AKL or WL? I like the fact that everything is in one building at those resorts. No need to be walking out alone at night to get to your room.

I was thinking the exact same thing. WL was the first resort that popped in my mind.

AP package bookings allow you to book dinning w/out buying park tickets - you pay for the dinning. I stayed @ POFQ, not solo, but did wander about a bit after dark solo. We were in bldg. 7, I think, it was the bldg. which is closest to POR, it seemed a bit dark and deserted at night out there - so I'd ask to be near the lobby/pool.
Love that long beautiful cruise from POR/POFQ to DTD and have done it after dark solo and felt perfectly @ ease (of course you can see more in daylight.) Have a great visit.

My husband is not the Disney nut that I am, so will usually only go down there with me once or maybe twice a year, so as an AP holder I usually make at least one or two solo trips a year.:rotfl: I've stayed at Pop, AS Sports, AS Music, CSR, CBR, POFQ, Yacht Club, Boardwalk, and AKL solo. Last month I stayed solo at Wyndham Bonnet Creek resort in a one bedroom condo. I have never felt unsafe in any of them. Last May I stayed at Wyndham Bonnet Creek with family and fell in love with it, so most of my solo trips will now probably be at Wyndham Bonnet Creek (going through a third party, you can get a fully equipped one bedroom condo for the same price as a Value resort). However, if I was going to stay solo in a WDW owned resort, I'd go with POFQ or CSR. Those two were always my favorites when I was solo, although I did enjoy the studio at Boardwalk that I rented points for a few years ago. It came out to about the same price as a moderate and the location couldn't be beat.

*face palm* sometimes I don't know how I live with myself.

Changed my plans AGAIN.

After looking at the price of the extra night at PORFQ and then my mother telling me she would come up for a day and a half and do a couple parks (she has a training to do that WED)
I decided POP would work out better for my budget. So I called the lovely CM hotline and changed my reservations and saved a lot of dough.

THEN my boss lets me know today we made bonus and I would be getting some extra money the end of November... I seriously considered changing my reservations back but I think I'm going to give pop a try and have some more spending money on hand. I talked to a CM at our local Disney Character Warehouse and she told me she has stayed at both and finds POP to suit her budget while taking a solo trip.

I then purchased a baggelini messenger bag for my solo adventure! (Typically my brother carries the backpack, now I'll be the responsible adult)

Super excited for this trip!

I've been solo at every value resort and have never had any safety concerns--at all.

Thanks everyone!

I'm not sure if you booked POFQ or POR, but either is wonderful. POFQ is smaller. We also love the mansion section of POR. Is discount unavailable at both resorts?
Enjoy your stay. Beautiful resorts! Love walking along the river paths.
