Upgrading a 7 or 9 yo to adult during s/p/d?

Forgive me as I have asked about this on a different board, but it was suggested I might get better answers here.

My kids will be just shy of 10, 7, and almost 4 when we travel in Feb. We are staying at POR and as of now we are planning to pay OOP for food. I am not sure if we'll be able to get a RO discount on a preferred room at POR, and I want to crunch the #s to see how s/p/d would play out for us.

Part of why we did not sign up for DDP is that my kids would be bored with the kid meal options. We have ADRs for a few buffets, but all three kids are pretty adventurous eaters and prefer sushi, lamb, steak, etc. to things like pizza and chicken nuggets. As a result, our plan was to just pay OOP, and that way if they want they can order appetizers as entrees, or split an adult entree, etc. without a major issue. I have been considering upgrading my 9 yo to the adult DDP if s/p/d comes out. Someone pointed out that it shouldn't be an issue, and I might be able to upgrade my 7 yo as well and we'd all just pay child prices. I imagine they would probably not enjoy me doing this with my almost 4 yo, however, if he sees everyone else eating non kid entree items, he won't be happy either ;) I don't want to push it too far, but he truly would prefer the adult type entrees to kid meals in most cases.

Any experience with upgrading a 7 or 9 yo to an adult during s/p/d? I imagine asking about the almost 4 yo would be pushing it too far? I'm not trying to rack up a bigger discount or anything, I just have thought all along we'd do OOP so we didn't have to force them to order off the kiddie menu.

Thanks in advance. I can't really crunch #s on a RO discount vs. s/p/d until I can be reasonably sure I can at least upgrade the 9 yo and possibly the 7 yo. THe 3 yo would just be a "wish" I guess :confused3

I was just coming to post the same question. My 9 yo will be 1 month shy of being 10 when we travel. She does not eat Macaroni and cheese or chicken nuggets.

Can we upgrade her to an adult? How does that work?

Sorry I was no help op.

Well, hopefully we'll both get an answer :)

You register the child as 10 years old.

This will mean you pay the adult dining plan price (under the promotion I think that's the same as the child dining plan price) and purchase adult park tickets for that child as part of the package. the first poster, if you wanted to upgrade all three children, you would be registering all of them as 10 years old and buying adult tickets for all three.

The computer will not recognize an adult dining plan for anyone under age 10, so they have to literally be registered as being that age.

I already have my trip reserved. Do I just call back and ask to change her age? The regular reservation line?

Yes, you would call the reservation line and ask to have your reservation changed so your child is registered as 10 years old. The difference in the cost of tickets and dining plan would be added to your balance. If you're within 45 days you'll have to pay it as soon as you change it.

Sorry for all of the questions. Can we just request to register as a 10 year old. Do we have to give a new birthdate and lie about age. Not comfortable with that. We are not going until 2014 and I am hoping we will be under S/p/d.

Not sure, but you can call and say that you want to register your child as 10 years old for dining plan purposes. They will have to put the child into the computer as 10, but from what has been reported many CMs will do it and I haven't seen anyone post negative repercussions from the child being registered as 10 when they are actually 9 or 7. The only thing I've seen is that if you have a flight attached to your package, everyone's age may have to be correct.
