*2013* epcot food & wine festival 9/27-11/11

OK this is an informational thread, let's not get into an argument about who will be posting what. I'm removing threads if I think they are not on topic for the festival. I've learned that people subscribe and read this thread because they're waiting for info to come out (like the prices we're waiting for now) and the argument about opinions as to whether or not Disney should be getting the prices out sooner (we all wish they would, but they don't, it's just not how this is done) is just taking up space.

You are of course free to write to Disney and let them know that they take too long to get the prices out. That may help them realize that most guests want longer to plan, if they get enough complaints.

We have the the 3D Dessert party booked and this is our first time going.....any info on this.....or reviews

Here is a review from 2010. Based on the past couple of years I do not think the event has changed much.

It looks like there's great excitement over this year's F&WF and that's great! DW and I are going this weekend, mainly for the F&WF, but also to get away from the kids!

I was wondering if there were any formal opening ceremonies on Friday? This trip will not be our first time at F&WF, but it is our first time at opening weekend.

Thanks!

Please to call me evil genius.

To my knowledge there are no opening ceremonies. They open the booths and off you go.

Um, oh. I guess I wasn't really expecting that answer. So the festivities start when World Showcase opens, then, I guess? So that's a good time to go as the local Orlando WDW fans won't have gotten off work at that time of day?

Exactly...once they get off work on Friday they will start showing up in droves.

There is the Festival Center which opens at 9, as compared to the World Showcase which opens at 11 (the food kiosks in WS will not open prior to WS opening), but I don't think they do opening ceremonies there either. I don't know, maybe they do something at the cranberry bog.

Does check in for the 3D Dessert Party work the same as any ADR in that they check your name and/or confirmation number at the door? I won't be receiving tickets or anything like that, is that correct?

Yes, that is correct. With the exception of the Festival Center seminars/demonstrations, which you pick up on the day of the event, I have never received any sort of paper ticket or voucher for these events.

We have been issued Magic Bands for our stay. Will we be able to use these to pay for our purchases at the kiosks?

Also, I recall reading something about small Disney Gift Cards that can be worn on your wrist. Does anyone have any details on these? For instance, where we can get them and can they be used for purchases beyond the festival?

Thanks!

I am curious about usage of MBs for the F&W too. :listen:

I do believe you can pick up the wristlet GCs at the entrances in Epcot, maybe the gift shop near the International gateway.

The small wrist gift cards are available at the gift shops and merchandise stalls. These are standard GC, so they can be used anywhere Disney GC can be used. The festival maps currently available have the locations marked. MBs can be used too, if you set them up with a chargeable CC with PIN number.

Please post if the Unibroue taps make an appearance at Canada...this is vital F&W information.

I 2nd this request. Although I typically see the Unibroue taps appear and and disappear on a day to day basis depending on how fast they keep kicking the kegs.

I have a Magic Band myself to use at the end of October. I hope we will be able to use them to purchase at the kiosks. They did have tap to pay at the Flower & Garden Festival food kiosks. You had to use a room key, but it was faster even than using the gift card, and I did both. Your magic band (or room key if you are using that instead) needs to be set up with a PIN number to use tap to pay, they'll do that when you check into your resort.

If you can use the magic band, you won't need the gift card unless you want them. But you can get them at the Festival Center and at the Festival gift shops at World Showcase. Have heard you may also be able to get them at Epcot Guest Services and maybe the Epcot resorts (I read here that somebody got one at Boardwalk.) Except for the way they look, they are the same as regular Disney gift cards and can be used anywhere that a Disney gift card is accepted.

I'll be there all day Monday but I'm sure someone will get to the Unibroue before I do, just leave some for me. I don't recall them ever having Fin du Monde on draft, they only have that in bottles in the restaurant (one year they were selling bottles of it at the Craft Beer both). Last year you could grab Trois Pistoles, Blanche du Chambly and Ephemere outside in Canada at the time I went.

Please don't plan to only have the Magic bands to pay. I have a cast member friend and they have so many problems with these things they have taken to calling them Tragic bands (along with colorful terms they can't say on stage).

Have another payment method as a back up

Good tip. I will let my family know. We were all planning on loading them up with money but now probably not.
