Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2013, Part Three (NOW CLOSED, see 2014 thread)

I am now thinking of not requesting an area. We have a standard room booked, and I already requested corner room.

Sometimes it's nice to get a surprise if your mind is not set on anything in particular - maybe just add a simple request for a "pleasant view", or add "reasonably close to main buildings" if you wish, and see what happens?

So in relation to sunset, it is just before half 7 :) Hopefully the person looking to know is on this thread.

So I went to Magic Kingdom today but I didn't have the most magical time. Some of the guests being shocked being by myself and the things they said to me. :sad2:

And not getting burned as I used a 50 factor suncream!!!:

Thank u! Just seeing if i will acclimate tome zones and planning for runs in anticipation of the TOT.

Well thats just not nice - maybe u went because everyone else went to another park, our group has done things like this - one mom goes to one park, the dads went to another and the other moms and aunties with kids went to another.

Glad it didn't ruin things for u - not bringing 50 but was gonna bring 15 ... Hmm maybe i should go higher.

Enjoying this new thread.....still trying to catch up on the other ones! Our first stay at POR will be in two months and I'm really looking forward to it. The more I read about POR, the more excited I get. I think I made a good choice!

It's on Ol' Man Island, just next to the Pool Bar and the children's playground. The start time is usually around dusk (see monthly schedules) and it runs for about 90 minutes (until the outdoor movie time anyway). Not sure if the POR one is still closed for maintenance work though, they were ferrying people over to the POFQ campfire a few weeks ago.

Andre

Thanks! That's what's going on. There's a construction wall up!

Another question, last night we ended up going to FQ for dinner (QS), and it was delicious btw! anyway, we ran into trouble getting back. It was after nine when we finished and all the buses kept saying they were done for the night and try the next one. Is there a designated bus that runs TO RS after FQ?

So what are our chances of getting a Mansion building room over an AB room if we just book a basic garden view room? Our travel dates for POR are January 11-19.

We've always just booked a royal room in the past because the AB aren't our first choice. Of course an AB room is fine if we ended up there, but we'd prefer the mansion buildings. Trying to decide if we should change our current royal room reservation.

Thanks!!

Does anyone know when the fridges will be in all rooms? We arrive Feb 26th and DH is a Type 1 Diabetic. Just not sure if I will need to request or not! TIA :thumbsup2

After staying at POR the first week of Sept. and then staying at AOA after returning from our Disney Fantasy cruise, my DH said he will never stay at a value resort again. POR has us spoiled. :) (AOA is nice for the cute themes and kids I am sure love it.) As adults the relaxing atmosphere of POR and the great customer service is something we want for our vacations at WDW.

:wave2:Wow! already 4 pages. This is a popular thread. Would've checked in earlier but was busy this weekend.

I'd call them and have a request put on your reservation just in case. You need one, so I wouldn't take the chance of not getting one.

Okay, only 4 days until we get to POR! Can't wait!! It's so weird that I really feel like I'm home when I get there. Kids still have absolutely no idea we are going - cant wait to tell them.

Has anyone heard when LTM Pirate Week is going to be? Hoping we will be there for part of it.

Thanks everyone for all the info! This has helped the planning to be more fun and made the waiting be a little easier.

Don't worry, we'll let you off - I'm sure there are still some stragglers on their way over... :)

Andre

Yep, here I come, straggling in :wave2:

Was out of the loop all day yesterday as we spent the entire afternoon at Verizon upgrading our phones! Then most of the evening figuring out the new billing, grrrrrrrr.

But, on to happy things...........Disney in 47 days!!!! :cool1:

Just faxed in room request. Can't wait! We arrive Thursday. Side note, do you ever hear anything about request? Or just cross your fingers and show up ;)

Wife and I might breakdown and tell the kids tonight! Our first trip to the World.

There are no buses that just run from FQ to RS at all. Sometimes you'll find one that happens to be doing POFQ>POR>theme-park, so you can hop on that, but there isn't a shuttle service as such. There is a ferry boat service though.

In January I'd be most surprised if they weren't able to honour such a request, almost half of the available rooms are mansion buildings so just random chance should be close to 50/50.

Medical requests are being granted anyway, and have been since the start, but see the FAQ post I put up a few hours ago for more info.

My hubby and I have been back from POR for a week and I am starting to plan for my next Disney vacation in 2016 with my GF when we both celebrate special birthdays. I think I have convinced her to stay at POR over the values--we want so save some money, but to me POR is worth it

We are planning on going end of Oct and first part of Nov to get in both Halloween and Christmas. I have never been to Florida then but I assume it is still warm--Am I correct?

Booked my 2 rooms here today! Been trying to stay here since my 2012 trip but ended up at deluxe hotels with my party size. Hope it's just as awesome!

We have a fridge (did not request one). We are in magnolia.

For those there last week or this week, how full does the resort feel? Just curious since some folks may have switched to POR since they are testing out the Magic Bands.
