December 2013 car rental

Any other reviews for Dollar? I've tried to find reviews online and they are really bad.

Any reviews for any other companies? I rented from Alamo at Dolphin in August and it was OK. Pickup/drop off was super easy. I wasn't happy that agent insisted Insiders no longer get free additional driver (not an issue for Dec) and car could have been cleaner.

Thanks for any insights!

If you research ANY of the companies there are bad reviews. People are much more motivated to leave an awful review when something has gone wrong than a positive one when everything has gone well. I worried myself over nothing. I prefer Alamo because of the ability to choose my own car. But the last time we used them, I got a car that stunk. I didn't realize it stunk until we were on our way and turned on the air. Overwhelming mildew smell coming from the front air vents. I should have turned around but figured it would go away. Nope. Every time we got in the roasting hot car and had to turn the air we were blasted with a mildew smell.
Every other experience I've had with Alamo, Dollar or Budget has been great.

We Christmas folks are still screwed. The great Dollar rate only goes for pick-ups through 12/15.

LOL...I definitely didn't budget enough for the rates I've been seeing. I got an incredible rate last trip, so I guess I'm "paying for it now". We have a plan B, C, D...etc. though, so no worries. :rolleyes1

I got the good rates for the dates of Dec. 17-26.Full size was under $200,mini van and SUV were around $280....yeah not sure which way I will go yet.lol

Dollar rates are down again right now for anyone who is looking. I don't know if they will cover your dates or not, but it's worth a look.

Thanks for the heads up on the Dollar drop...

Got 10 days (11/28-12/7) with a minivan for $340 (including all fees and taxes).

I only wish there was way to get around the additional driver fee...

Happy discount hunting!:thumbsup2

Thank you - got a minivan for the first week of December for $207; best I've found thus far!

I have to have the additional free driver, so for now, I guess I will stick with what I have. I have a full size SUV or Mini Van, 9 days, 12/02 - 12/11, free additional driver with Alamo Insider, for $292.76.

Way more than I want to pay, but prices are so high for everything this year. I could also have a full size car for a total of $178.28 which I might end up choosing to save over $100.

Mkymouse any coupons or discounts for that. I am looking for dec 23, 10 am pick up and jan 2nd 7 am drop off in tampa. Best i can do is $414 with budget. Grrr i cant get alamo to take any coupons eithier. Keeps say check coupon capacity full.

You (and I) are going during the busiest time in Orlando. Car companies don't need to offer discounts or accept coupons. Your rate of $414 (including taxes and fees, right?) for 10 days is not bad for that time of year. I would book that and keep on looking. Rates WILL go up.

Your dates are so much cheaper than mine 12/6 to 12/13 but they aren't that much different.:confused3

When I rented from Alamo in August they told me Insiders no longer get free additional driver. I just ended up not listing DH as a driver and I did all the driving. It would have been so much easier if he could have driven too because I'm a better navigator but I didn't want to pay the $70 for a week. I had my Insider # on the reservation but used the AP holder group number (not Insiders) and a Visa coupon. I've tried to find it listed on their site but I can't find anywhere that they say Insiders get additional driver.

Thanks to another post I found the additional driver info on the FAQs under contact us on the Alamo site. Now I've got to email Alamo and let them know just how annoyed I am with the agent who insisted it had changed.:headache:

Lovesdumbo, what type of car are you renting and what is your price? I'm curious how much more you are talking about that you are paying.

By the way, I am using my Alamo Insider's and a $30 off coupon, AD2338FDF to get the prices I found. You must pickup car by 12/15 to use this coupon.

Does anyone else have a better coupon out there? I haven't found any higher than $30 so far.

Greenclan57,

I would stick with the reservation you have for now and keep checking. Right now Alamo's coupons expire 12/15. I did a little searching for you, but I couldn't find anything cheaper for you. The thing about rental cars is that you have to check daily and at different times of the day. Prices change that quickly.

Good luck.

Oh believe me I do! I check and re check. I do my Xmas trip then my March trip! I think we may just be renting a care from Tampa to Kissimmee, if the prices stay high. There is a Hertz right at the resort, and if we need one we will do that.
