Mom & Son - The Last Time? An August TIW DR! 10/22 - I am Back. Updates x 8!

Umm the Ohana pics are making me drool. Think we are gonna get the TiW card for our next trip. The dining plan isn't a good value for us (unless its free) so it's good to see you all are well on your way to recouping the $100 already.

We thought we were going to go to Ohana this trip, but Derek called and let me know that he's blacked out at MK on the day we had planned.....which means we had to move plans around and we weren't able to keep our Ohana ADR. My concern was coconut.....I'm allergic and it wasn't clear if the bread & dessert had it or not. Oh well........ Mike makes a tasty teriyaki chicken & beef sticks and they're always perfectly cooked!! :goodvibes

Yes, we easily recouped the $100 plus I know I will be using it again in December and I am hoping that maybe DH and I can take the first "Mom & Dad" trip before it expires next September even if it is only a long weekend.

I would guess there probably is coconut but I know the chefs would work with you regarding the allergy if you speak to them. I am so happy that you are getting to take this trip! I can't wait to read all about it!

I'm so excited that you are completing another review!!! I loved your the others and am looking forward to this one as well! :goodvibes

So the train ride looked fun & I'm so happy you enjoyed CBR! pirate: We just added DDP 2 days ago, & P-37 will be our 1st ADR! I planned on the fish tacos too, so I'm glad they were so good. :woohoo:I love me a good fish taco! Yummy!

Great reviews so far Vicki! Looks like you and Andrew had another wonderful mom/son trip. :thumbsup2

Looking forward to more! :goodvibes

Ahhh I'm so sad that we had to give up 'Ohana this trip but it was for a good reason so I'll have to plan another trip to make it up to myself!! ;)

Wow! You didn't even have time for a cocktail since your pager went off so quickly! I'm with you about the salad.. I'm not a fan of papaya so I prefer the former version. I wish they would make dinner rolls out of that coconut pineapple bread. It may make me tempted to eat some if they were roll sized and not a loaf that looks so intimidating!

Looking forward to reading more!:)

Sorry no update tonight...we spent 3 hours at the ER. Three years of lacrosse with no injury, first soccer game and ...

Knee to the eye ... stiches but thankfully no concussion!

Hopefully will update tomorrow ...

Hi I'm finally here and getting caught up! Let me start by saying that I'm glad Andrew is ok and that this was a somewhat minor injury. I hope he is feeling better today!

I'm enjoying your reviews so far. The train food looks pretty good and it seems like an interesting way to travel! That's great that you were able to use miles to do it also. I've heard it can be expensive. I love the looks of your meal at Paradiso. Seriously love it! It's too bad about the corn. I think I'd try it (if we ever make it there), because it just looks like such cheesy goodness! I'm happy to see you enjoyed the fish tacos so much!

Looking forward to reading more, and thanks for sharing!

Oh my, poor Andrew! How's he feeling today? Hopefully not too bad.

And how 'bout Andrew's mom...how's she holding up? :worried:

Ouch!!! Looks like he may have a nice rugged scar as a little memento of his soccer career!! Glad to know he didn't have a concussion. Sorry about having to deal with that and of course the phone call!! :scared1:

Hi. I came over from the Live Thread to follow along on your dining adventures. So far so good! Can't wait to see more.

And poor Andrew. That eye looks so sore. Hope he has a speedy recovery!

Thank you all for the Andrew well wishes! He (and I) are doing ok. I was a wreck driving to get him but OK after I saw him. It is still very swollen but he says not painful, just annoying. The doctor said there should be a very minimal scar so we will see. Stitches out next Friday which is my birthday so a good excuse to take the day off!

Late night at work today and late pickup of Jay tomorrow so probably no updates til Saturday. I promise to get a bunch up this weekend!

And Brenda, how's the ankle?

No Way!! That's my dad's birthday! What a great day to be born!!

And Brenda, how's the ankle?

Thanks for asking.... it's is less painful/throbbing so that's good. I had to pass up a Disney tour next week so I was sad. Well, actually, I could have done it but I didn't want to rent a wheelchair and have my friend push it. Oh the negative side of a bum foot. I'm only thinking of the Disney impact!! :rotfl2:

So next up was lunch at

But first we stopped to watch the manatees have a lunch snack!

We were seated right by the tank so we got to utilize the

First up were the rolls -

I can honestly say that I remember nothing about these. Not even if they were crunchy or soft. So I am going to say that these must not have been very good.

Andrew decided to once again use Coral Reef to try some new things –
First up, the Seared Crab Cakes - with remoulade and fennel-apple slaw $11.99

These were pretty tasty. We don’t really like crab but he enjoyed these and I liked the bite he let me have!

I had the seasonal soup which was asparagus … and for some reason the picture will not upload. It is one of a dozen or so that is coming up as an ‘error’.

It had good flavor but was thin. So thin it was hard to eat with a spoon. I wanted to pick it up and drink it. I like my soup to have come consistency to it.

Andrew continued being adventurous by ordering the Coral Reef Lobster
Orecchiette Pasta - with White Cheddar Cheese and Basil Oil $28.49

For the most part, he enjoyed it. He didn’t eat the really large lobster pieces. He is better than I because I wouldn’t even try it!

I tried the Grilled Mahi Mahi - with Laughing Bird Shrimp, Hearts of Palm, Jasmine Rice, Cilantro, and a Coconut-Lime Sauce $25.99 (minus the shrimp)

This was truly delicious. The fish was mild (I don’t like strong fish) and the sauce was just perfect with the jasmine rice. I would love to learn to make this sauce at home

This guy joined us during the meal ..

We were too stuffed for dessert plus we knew there was a particular sweet treat that we wanted to try!

All in all, another really enjoyable meal at Coral Reef. We will definitely return.

I am enjoying your thread so much! My son and I go to Disney a couple times a year, he is 16 turning 17 in November. I understand how you must feel about him growing up. It certainly is bittersweet. I wish life had a pause button, or maybe even a rewind button so I could pick him up and feel those little arms wrapped around me again.

Vicki great view with that table! They've changed the mahi mahi a bit since the last time we were there. I tried a bite of Em's and it was ok. That's actually saying a lot since I'm not a fish lover!

Hmmmm what sweet treat were you going to try???

Getting caught up now! I hope you and Andrew are feeling better by now (particularly that Andrew's pain is down), and it's nice to see that you had positive experiences at Paradiso 37, 'Ohana, and Coral Reef. :goodvibes
