May 2, 2014 - A WONDERous trip through the Locks WBPC

Our local paper has a column for "On this day in history" and today they wrote that the Panama Canal opened for traffic on this date in 1914. I guess that makes next year the 100th anniversary. I wonder if there will be anything special planned to celebrate? Kind of exciting that we will go through the Canal in its 100th year!

Thanks for the information! I like to know things like that!

Who has been through the Panama Canal before?

Dennis and I sailed West bound on the Magic in 2008. Great fun going through the locks!

Cheers,

Jennifer :moped:

We were on the Westbound 2008 too. It was a great trip. Were you on the meet thread for that cruise too? We also did the Jan2011 and this last May's Westbounds too. We love this cruise. I think this one will be our last though.

I don't think this will be our last one. As long as they keep doing them I think we will keep going.

We have only been to the PC via a cruise. We did an excursion to the Gutan locks to learn about it.
But we have never been THROUGH the PC. Can't wait!!!:cheer2::cheer2:

That is great and I certainly would take more if I could. You are already at one end of the cruise so that is a big bonus. We have expensive flights, plus age is catching us up too. We keep saying this will be our last trip to the West Coast!! One day it will be and even our last trip to the East coast too.:sad1:

We loved the 2008 cruise. I had no idea about the dis board back then. My DH, DS and I just hung out together.
Actually, our son was in the Stack every hour it was open. We had to drag him out so he could watch the ship go through the locks. I think he came to 1 dinner. Oh well, a good time was had by all.

We had a massive group back then. Well it was only the 3rd PC cruise and back then a very special event for DCL to take a ship through and back. Still is of course but somehow it was different to all the other cruises I have been on. Our first Transatlantic had a similar group actually but still not like the PC one. It is becoming more a regular event now of course. I keep thinking I will try it on a different cruise line but still keep booking this one for the PC. Been on others for other cruises though.

We leave for Maine next week, not to return to San Diego 'til the Wonder drops us off next May. Anyone jealous of our road trip? 3173 miles with two kids and two giant dogs, during the busiest travel week of the Summer:crazy2::crazy2:

Safe travels my dear friend!

Hi! Not DCL, but today we have booked a Princess CL cruise to the Holy Land for fall, 2014!:yay: We have given this so much thought, for years! Questions like.."Is it safe?" "Can I handle the walking?" "Do we do the whole 29 nights and do WBTA?" "Will we use a balcony in November?"

We decided and booked just the 11 nights, not the TA. We got the balcony, bought the insurance, figured that the sooner the better as far as my walking. Safe is relative. I have always wanted to visit the Holy Land!....we are GOING!!!

So, we have 4 cruises booked for 2014!
6 night Caribbean on RCCL
15 night WBPC on DCL
4 night Double Dip on DCL
11 night Holy Land on Princess! I have high enough status on Princess to get free Internet!

Just got kicked off the beautiful Wonder yesterday after a glorious 7 nights onboard! I absolutely love this ship and everyone onboard. It's like going home and everyone takes really good care of the kids and I! Can't wait until I can get back on her in May for this fabulous cruise!

It looks like some of the cabins have sold out (Cat 5, some) Let the games begin.......

It must be getting closer, but still seems a long way away!

We have first seating. Anyone else? Do you all have table mates?

We are in first seating. We have always been in second, It's just too late. We did have table mates but our DSIL and DN have decided not to sail. So no, we don't have table mates.

We have the opposite situation. DSis & DCuz are hoping for last minute deals. I don't know if that's possible for this cruise. On the EBTA, some inside cabins were going for $700-800 per person for the 14 night cruise. I chatted with some cruisers who got deals like that. We have a balcony, plans for post cruise & air going home.

Once we get closer, and get to know what's what, perhaps people here can try to get tables organized. Can that even happen?

We were on the 12 night EBTA 5/14, we switched to this cruise. There was no difference in the overall price. With the $500.00/per/person airfare increase from Barcelona since last year, we decided to take our 20% discount to this cruise. If your family is interested on a cat 11b closer to the cruise I'm keeping the extra room til 106 days out. i'm checking with our cruise friends but if none of them are interested, the room will be available.
