To all that are coming in from out of town, and DisUnplugged Podcast Members. I’d like to share some information about our wonderful city to make your visit one to remember. Yes the meet is in Noblesville, but you cant miss out on Downtown Indy, the Crossroads of America.

If you are coming in a day ahead of time or staying after here is a list of things and places to eat in downtown Indy. Downtown has a wide variety of places to eat, sites to see, and places to grab a brew or two. Below I’ve listed some of my favorite places to eat, and see.

Downtown Eats:

St Elmos:

Known for their Shrimp Cocktail. Best I have ever had, but be forewarned it’s a pricey place to eat. Great steaks, and a popular place to eat downtown. Parking is close by and if desired Valet Parking is available.

The Rathskeller:

This is a beautiful place to eat. Authentic German food and beer. Also has an outdoor patio for dining and outdoor entertainment. Usually have great live music on the weekends.

In my opinion the best place in Indy to get pizza. This place is great, and its in the heart of Mass Ave, a great place to window shop in Indy.

A great spot to grab a deli style sandwich. Very busy during the lunch hour, but well worth it. Grab a Corned Beef Sandwich!

Chocolate Café

Grab some ice cream, and walk across the street and sit on the steps of the monument and people watch. A great summer evening activity.


Downtown Sights:

White River State Park:

A unique park in downtown Indianapolis. Within the park includes the Indianapolis Zoo, White River Gardens, NCAA Hall of Fame, Victory Field, Eiteljorg Museum, Military Park, Indiana State Museum, and the Downtown Canal.

Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument

A great spot to people watch and just relax and enjoy downtown. A certain points in the day you can go to the top of the monument, and don’t forget to check out the museum down below.

Lucas Oil Stadium

Home of the Indianapolis Colts. If scheduled ahead, you can take a tour of this beautiful stadium. Well worth it!

Mass Ave.

As I said above, a great place to shop, eat, and drink. Also if you have children, or have the heart of a child, check out Mass Ave toys. Great hole in the wall toy store with unique toys, games, and all around fun stuff for kids and kids at heart.

Also if you flying in I suggest you rent a car. A cab ride from the airport to Noblesville could be a bit pricey.

My family is coming from Portland Oregon for our nephew's wedding on September 6 and I can't even believe that this meet is on September 7th!!! I am excited to be attending the Indy Meet!

Thank you for all of the great information, we were looking for a place to have a nice dinner on Wednesday and it looks like St. Elmo's is the place. We will be going to The Rathskeller for the rehearsal dinner on Thursday evening....

I am looking forward to meeting other DISer's and seeing the Podcast team in person. Thank you for putting together such a wonderful meet for such a great reason!!!

A perfect little zoo that you can conquer in half a day. Don't forget to visit the White River Gardens

Children's Museum Indianapolis

The largest Children's Museum in the WORLD. Hands on fun for all!

NCAA Hall of Champions

Did you know the NCAA headquarters are here in Indy? And they sit right on the beautiful canal, with paddle boat and surrey bike rentals. It's a gorgeous walk!

The Children's Museum is a favorite of my family's. We try and go at least 4-5 times a year.

I'd stay at the JW Corey. Take the kids on a canal walk. There is so much in downtown in walking distance, either hotel will work though.


Also on the 6th, the Gin Blossoms are playing on Georgia Street downtown. Its a free concert in celebration of the Kickoff to the Colts season.

I have to be another to chime in on the JW. HGI is on the other side of downtown. Not that it is a bad neighborhood but it seems if there is trouble at a club it is usually one over on that side of downtown. JW also has indoor walkways all the way to Circle Center Mall and is more central to the Zoo and Canal. Rent a surrey bike on the canal and tour the area with it. Downtown your dining options will be limitless. One of the top choices is St Elmo's Steakhouse.
