Hey guys!!! I know it's stupid to be nervous about a resort. I think because its such an investment, I just want to make sure I am choosing the best place for us.

I had posted about choosing between the poly and yc. I have stayed at the poly and we loved it. But the YC has the dates I want available and the poly does not. Originally was going 11/19-25. But because of school , I am leaning more toward 11/22-11/28. I know the week will be crowded...hopefully it isn't as horrible as people keep telling me. But with my daughter having ap classes, I really need her to not miss that much school the week before thanksgiving.

Anyway, I'm trying to sell myself on the YC. I know nothing about it. I am a tad anxious when it comes to cleanliness. I can't help it..:confused3. I have heard some poor opinions of beach club. Are the bc and YC separate entities?

I know the pool area is supposed to be fantastic...but with the timing ..I'm not sure we will use it due to cooler temps. So the pool isn't too much of a selling point for me.

I hear people talking about the marketplace? What is that?

What do you all think about this hotel? Thanks so much !!!

Hello. :goodvibes

My family and I stayed at the YC in April. We really loved this resort. The location cannot be beat, where you are within walking distance of two parks (Epcot, and DHS). The pool is huge and pretty fun. It wasn't my favorite pool but it was very nice.

We had absolutely no issues with cleanliness at YC. Our room was pristine quite honestly, no complaints there. I've honestly seen more complaints of cleanliness issues regarding the Poly than the YC.

YC and BC are like two sides of the same hotel. Same management, just different themes.

The Marketplace is a quick service location inside the gift shop at BC. You can find quite a few grab and go food items there.

I honestly would not hesitate to stay at YC again, we really enjoyed our stay there. :thumbsup2

Thank you for answering!!! I keep reading that the YC is a tad stuffy..my kids are 16,11 and 9... But want the feel of Disney. I read the yc has many convention goers and bc is more families? I was reading that bc is closer to Epcot, prettier decor and has the edge in refilling mugs and as dining? But yet I have seen some negative reviews of bc but not heard many about the YC except that maybe a lot like bc better. Bc isn't an option for me.

Is it really easy to get to Epcot from YC? If I wanted to go to mk.. I could just go to Epcot and catch the monorail? My kids love the monorail...lol. Is there a bus to ak?

My kids are 9 and 6 and they loved YC. We didn't find it to be stuffy at all. We actually enjoyed that it was a lot more quiet than the BC. There were plenty of families at YC.

It is a 5 minute walk to Epcot from YC. 15 minutes to DHS.
Bus to AK and bus to MK. You could walk through Epcot and take the monorail to MK if you wanted, but that seems like alot of extra work and you would definitely need hopper passes to do so.

Honestly, BC and YC are attached, so there is really no edge, IMHO for amenities from one to the other...:goodvibes

It is a very short walk to Epcot's International Gateway from the YC. You enter the park between France and the UK. You will love it. To get to MK from the YC you would take the resort bus. Otherwise you would have to walk from World Showcase through Future World to get to the front of Epcot and the monorail. Also, you can't get into Epcot until 9:00 so if you are trying to get to the MK at or near park opening, you'll never make it. The bus is the way to go from the YC. It's easy!

You will love the YC and Stormalong Bay, the pool there! The kids will love the entire Boardwalk area!

The longer you are on the boards the sooner you will recognize that there will be strong positive AND negative reviews about the same resort, restaurant, quick service location, park etc. Each and every one. Everyone's likes and dislikes are different. You can not take them to heart. That is what is so good about Disney. There is somewhere for everyone.
The Yacht Club is great. Visit the Yc/BC thread here and review pages 1 and 2 even if you don't want to participate there. There is tons of information and pictures about both resorts
Good Luck in your decision.

Hi There! We stayed at the YC for a week this April and then we stayed at the Poly for a week this August (just a few weeks ago). I have a DS10 and a DD13, so my kids are similar in ages to yours.

Having stayed at both just recently, I can assure you that you and your family will love YC! And, I think it has just as much to offer as the Poly does. Both of my kids really liked the YC! It didn't feel too formal or stuffy. And, we saw plenty of other families there.

Here were some of the best parts of our YC stay:

SAB - yes it's large, so it's a bit more difficult to keep an eye on the kids, but because of that, my DH and I actually found ourselves in the water more, actually playing with the kids. We had so much fun in the pool together. And then, when DH and I were ready for a break on the lounge chairs, we just had the kids stick to one area of the pool. Another thing about SAB...it's absolutely lovely. So much to look at. Plus, there are so many seating options. If you want to see more action, take a seat by the slide exit. If you want some peace and quiet, just head to one of the upper decks or to one of the chairs in the shade a little further back.

The rooms - I thought they were awesome! Very clean and my favorite part is that they were bright and open. Plus, they all have full balconies!! This was our room in April:

Proximity to the Boardwalk Area and Epcot - This was one of the best parts of our stay. On evenings that you're not in the mood for a park...just head over to the Boardwalk for some shopping, eating, or entertainment. My kids loved the magicians and jugglers that performed! They also loved pin trading through the shops and at the Boardwalk Inn. Also, nothing beats being able to stroll into Epcot's WS for the evening! Walking to Epcot from YC is a breeze!

Beaches and Cream - Because sometimes you just gotta have a whopping big sundae for lunch! Every time we go to Disney we take the kids for a special 'ice cream only' lunch. It's one of their favorite things to do...and something we would definitely only do on vacation :rotfl:

The one thing I can say having stayed at both the Poly and YC within the last few months is that they felt like totally different vacations. I think it's so much fun to try new resorts...it makes it feel like a whole new experience! Don't be nervous; you're going to have a great time!

One more pic taken from the YC, looking toward the BWI...so pretty!

Our favorite deluxe is the Poly, but we stayed at the YC too and loved it. I wouldn't say the atmosphere is "stuffy". To us it just seemed more refined than its' sister resort (BC). Lots of families with children at both resorts. There is a good possibility that the Poly will be in some form of construction for the addition of DVC during your visit, so it may be a blessing in disguise that you had to book YC.

our kids loved the YC (much moreso than the BC and BCVs, which they felt was more noisy and geared toward very little kids).
YC staff treated them very well (at BC & BCV, they were often "overlooked" with all the older kids).
it is a gorgeous resort (btw, we also loved the poly), with short walks/friendship rides to EPCOT & DHS, as well as all the BW fun.

enjoy!

CT Disney, your pics are awesome! We're staying at the YC in December and one thing I was worried about was whether the rooms would feel outdated because IIRC the YC is up for a renovation soon. From your photo, I can see there's nothing to worry about. I can't wait to see the place in person!

You can always find out more on one of the dedicated threads titled 2013 Beach and Yacht Club FAQ, Fun and friends:***July and August 2013*** they are very helpful and friendly and have an amazing list of facts and features on the first few pages. I recommend giving it some time and make sure to check out the maps and photos there are even some of the different room view categories there.
We are taking our DS 13 years old to YC it's not at all stuffy or too formal for children of any age, don't let the lack of large characters everywhere mislead you, subtlety and old world theming is the key to this resort there are cute little touches here and there too and the rooms at the moment have a Mickey lamp. I can't wait for DS to see that we are at this resort he was gutted on our last vacation that he couldn't play in SAB after our meal at Yachtsman's Steakhouse he fell in love with the pool here.

We did a split-stay at YC last year and I am in LOOOOOVE!!!

We started at POR which was great save for a few hiccups not attributable to the actual resort (some miscommunication and CM error). We figured we would have to wait until we got home to resolve, but when the CM at YC heard us talking about it, he grabbed a manager and the situation was resolved in minutes... a great way to start the stay.

We had adjoining rooms with our in-laws and were amazed at how quiet the rooms were - my FIL and BIL are very loud baritones, and we barely heard them.

DD, who was 4, LOVED the resort: I was worried it was too stuffy, but she loved the 'ship look'. She talked to the Captain in the lobby every time we went through. She seemed interested in BC when we stopped over for a visit, but said she felt her resort was 'nicer' (I think part of it was the multitude of kids outside Cape May).

SAB was definitely an appeal for our whole group, but we also took advantage of the quiet pool. Proximity to EPCOT and HS was a great feature, especially because we did an Illuminations Cruise (right outside our hotel can't be beat!)

I think that 'stuffy' at Disney probably means something totally different than 'stuffy' in real life. YC definitely gave me the DELUXE taste (though, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at POR again). The only reasons we aren't staying at YC next trip is price, location (2 kiddos = extra MK time) and having a tiny that won't be able to take advantage of SAB. But, we've already decided that when our Little Peanut becomes a good swimmer, we're going back to YC!

Youve picked a great resort to stay at. We will be staying at the YC for the first time in October. Weve stayed at the Beach Club several times and always found it to be clean. I havent read any negative reviews on the YCs cleanliness either. Plus, you can use Stormalong Bay, which IMO is the best pool on Disney property. You are also only a 5 minute walk to Epcot and 10-15 to HS ( or you can take the boat). You can take the monorail to MK if you have parkhoppers (we do all of the time), but youll still have to take a bus to AK or DTD.

I think youve made a great decision and your family will love the YC. Have a great trip!

Just had an idea if you have park hopping on your tickets it could be worth trying to catch a bus to POFQ or POR from the front of Epcot and take a boat down to DTD it's a pleasant alternative route to get there and you could do the reverse trip to get back to the hotel later in the day when you only need to take a quick walk through Epcot and IG to be back to your room.

And, the funny thing is, that room picture came out pretty dark because of the backlighting from the window. It's actually much lighter and brighter in real life.

Here are some pics of the pool. Love how pretty it is! Hope you get to use it in December :)

The slide:

oh my gosh! Thank you!! I am getting excited now. Honestly the reviews that I was reading about weren't necessarily here. I tend to do my homework when I research hotels in other areas that I need to stay in.

I happened to somehow come across the Disney hotels and started reading the reviews. I saw some here too but when I saw them on another website...I got nervous.

I love love love the pictures! It looks so clean and bright. It is actually right up my alley. The poly's theme was awesome too and I loved walking along all the paths and felt like I was on a tropical island...but at the same time we had that disney feel. We sat on the beach and watched the electric boat parade. Loved it. So , I am so glad to hear the reviews.

That was the one thing I did notice is not alot of negative cleanliness issues in reviews of YC...saw quite a few on BC. I dont necessarily live by the reviews because i know people have strong opinions. In fact it seems people are pretty loyal to their favorite resort. But when I start seeing review after review ..I started to worry.

The pool is gorgeous. I don't know if I will get to use it in late November?? But the view of it is so pretty.

What is the Illuminations cruise? The boardwalk is part of the hotels? It's shops? This is something you can do at night? I started to read the thread and look at the pictures. I guess I should really dig in!

I think this might be a good transition with older kids. They want to feel the Disney magic but not necessarily seeing characters walking around or anything.

As of now , I do have hopper passes. One of my kids favorite things is riding the monorail..:confused3 . We took a boat when we stayed at the Poly and loved it. I would totally do that again and glad to hear that is an option. We also plan to go to DTD for dinner one night .

From your pictures Ct ..it just looks beautiful. I see palms still and everything!

That is also great to hear about the older kids feeling part of the magic. When we were at the Poly, the younger kids got a lot of attention and I remember my daughters kind of feeling like they were considered "adults". While all the CM's were very nice and friendly, my daughters did feel overlooked...so I do know what you are talking about.

Then my one daughter ended up getting swine flu while we were down there. The first night we had reservations at The royal table. It's the one thing my daughter wanted to do...she was probably about 8 and very into the whole Disney magic. We ended up getting to dinner and going, but my daughter started becoming very pale and very sick. That night she ended up with a very high fever and was just ill. So basically my husband and I took turns staying at the hotel with her and the other would take the other two to the parks. My sick daughter had been to Disney before when she was younger but didn't remember it. So unfortunately, what she remembers about the last Disney trip is that she was sick in the Poly's bed.

We made due, but it was a shame not to be all together. We had to move around our dinners and breakfast. My older daughter and I went to ohana character for breakfast by ourselves.

So we spent a lot of time in the hotel. It was such a wonderful place that it really made things bearable.

Anyhow...I am trying to make sure that this vacation goes smoothly and that the kids all enjoy themselves. This is probably why I am so nervous about the hotel. Not to mention , I am a tad bit of a clean freak and if it was dirty...Mom wouldn't be happy. ..;)

That was something I was nervous about ...my kids are older but def. don't want to be overlooked...so it is great to hear how well the older ones were treated!!

I'm way over 4, and I loved the 'ship look' too! And the Captain (he was so nice!) and the globe in the lobby. My favorite part of the room (besides the dimmer switch on the lamps, nvm that, I'm just odd that way) was the headboards. And I loved the shelf under the sinks. We put shoes on the floor under the shelf and umbrellas on the shelf so we would remember to take our umbrellas with us. That didn't work, but I still love the sink setup.

The poly's theme was awesome too and I loved walking along all the paths and felt like I was on a tropical island...but at the same time we had that disney feel. We sat on the beach and watched the electric boat parade. Loved it. So , I am so glad to hear the reviews.

I think you will like the walk to EPCOT past the Beach Club's beach. It definitely had that tropical feel for me. Add in the lighthouse, and it's amazingly like being seaside when you are really on a little lake.

Our room was very clean. The only issues I found, and it's only because I have mold allergies so I notice this stuff, is there was some grout that could have been scrubbed slightly better (nothing to make me sick or anything) and I think the pull out drying string/rope thing in the tub area was due for a replacement. It wasn't frayed or slimy or anything like that, it just wasn't as white and new looking as it should have been.

I do hope you get to use the pool. I hadn't been in a sand bottom pool before, and I tend to cracked heels. My feet were so much better after a few times in that pool! DD9's favorite part of SAB was the whirlpool area. You can just float there going around and around for hours... going in circles... like life sometimes, lol. The average high for November is 78, so obviously some days will be warmer and some cooler. Crossing my fingers that you get the warm front!:goodvibes

I stayed at BC on a short solo trip and was kind of disappointed, so I have kind of written off staying at YC. However, after seeing some of the pictures and reading some of your "testimonials", I may have to give YC a shot.

The rooms at the BC and YC are in great condition. The hallways desperately need the carpet replaced and a good paint job on the walls. I think the resort is up for a refurb in the near future. We are staying at the BC next month. I love the location and the resort. I will just ignore the stained carpet when I'm walking to my room.
