I often see questions here about dining at Palo and/or Remy. There are two reviews on FoodieTales that may help people decide.

The latest is about our Palo brunch and dinner experiences on the Wonder's West Bound Panama Canal cruise. We've found Palo experience to be consistent across all 4 of the DCL vessels so this should be relevant no matter which ship you are on.

There is also a review of Remy Brunch and Dinner on the Fantasy. We've also done Remy on the Dream and the experience there is the same as the Fantasy.

Great reviews. We ate dinner at Palo on the Wonder a few weeks ago and loved it. Got the tenderloin medium rare, lobster ravioli, and 3 of their main desserts (the custard one, a creme brulee, something else, but not the tiramisu). Great dinner. The tenderloin far surpassed any beef I ate in the MDRs. There were only 3 ravioli, but they were pretty rich and we'd already been eating the antipasti and flat bread, so between the two entrees and desserts, it was enough.

We had tried to save up a huge appetite, but it was the last night of the cruise and it wasn't as easy at that point. Only downer is that they sat us at a table such that the sun was blasting me directly in the face for a good 45 minutes or so, until it set behind the mountains. Probably should have requested a different table.

Remy looks great, but that's a bit more than we want to spend, but everyone should at least do Palo.

I love all the experiences and especially booked the Dream for my birthday cruise over the Magic so I could eat at Remy again. I have both brunch and dinner booked at Remy and dinner at Palo. Really considering trying to book another dinner in each and skip the main dining rooms this trip.

We've got Palo and Remy brunch reviews on the Disney Cruise Line blog. I like both, but Remy brunch blew us away, especially with the champagne pairing.

Remy dinner will also blow you away! If you're adventurous, let your server select which is the best item for each of the courses.

We recently tried Palo for the first time and absolutely loved it! Our server brought us way more food than we were expecting but everything was delicious. The flat bread and the parmesan were so good. We both had the Tuscan white bean soup which has to be hands down one of the best things that I have ever eaten. Berny also brought us the calamari to share, we each had a small pasta course (chianti beef & lobster ravioli), we both had the tenderloin (so good), we each ordered the chocolate souflee (really good but I was stuffed), but then Berny also brought us berries, strawberry basil sorbet, and the vanilla bean panna cotta and she also brought us a plate that had "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate.

We are looking forward to our next dinner in Palo and trying brunch for the first time. I don't think we are adventurous enough for Remy.

I'm glad I saw this. We have only been on the older ships and done Palo brunch and dinner (and tea when they still offered it).

A friend is taking her first DCL cruise on the Dream in November and wants to me tell her all about DCL, but I'm afraid I won't know enough since we've never been on a newer ship.

But, main question...given that she has never sailed before, and is only on a 4-night sailing, what are her odds of getting a reservation at Palo or Remy? For anything?

Very Good and Accurate Review!! That's been our experiences in Palo for Brunch and Dinner.

A couple of items to note:
* If you are dining multiple at Palo during your cruise, you will most likely have the same server each time
* Even as a gold CC (and now as Platinum) member we very infrequently were able to get a Brunch reserved online. Never have had a problem making a ressie once on board on embarkation day.

We have eaten at Palo on the classic ships and loved it. We had Palo dinner on our recent cruise on the Fantasy. My DH enjoyed his food as it was mostly seafood that he loves. (I'm allergic to shellfish so prefer not to eat any fish in a restaurant to avoid possible contamination) I had the tenderloin and found it very tough. I was greatly disappointed. The service was OK, nothing bad but nothing spectacular like other cruises. The souffle was amazing as always. I'm not sure if I just got a poor piece of filet but DH was enjoying himself (He does so much for my parents I really wanted to treat him.) so I didn't want to spoil it by saying anything. We'll try Remy next time.

As with everything Disney I found the service at Palo to be outstanding. Also with everything Disney I found the food to be lacking. It doesn't measure up to the average fine dining Italian restaurant in Seattle. I guess it depends on what you are used to. If you are used to dining at Olive Garden or Buca Di Beppo you will love Palo. If you compare it to fine dining in a large city such as NY, SF, or New Orleans you will be disappointed.

Add Phoenix to that list. We're totally spoiled by the great restaurants here. It also depends on your own skills in the kitchen. Someone who has trouble boiling water is more apt to be impressed by a chef who is merely adequate. Of course, food is very subjective.

Nothing wrong with hitting Remy instead of Palo! The Remy Champagne Brunch was a lot of fun. Before going to that I would have told you I didn't care for "champagne" but I found out that what is normally served at weddings, etc is just a poor imitation. The pairings at brunch do even more to show how much difference there is among Champagnes.

Next cruise is back to the Magic, so Remy won't be an option sadly. But I was thinking of not doing Palo at night, but your review makes me think, maybe I should adjust that thinking....

I have been on a Champagne tour in France and I totally understand what you mean. Sparkling wine does not make a Champagne! Champagne is totally to be experienced!

Please tell us what you ordered.

I really can't remember. The food wasn't memorable at all. The one thing I do remember is the waiter apologizing profusely that wen didn't think the meal was "excellent". I told him I thought it was good and we loved the service and the atmosphere. I mentioned to him that wasn't blaming him or the chefs in the kitchen. I just don't think it is possible for a restaurant on a cruise ship to compete with an off ship restaurant. In Seattle where the chef can get fresh locally sourced seafood and vegetables they have a huge advantage over the cruise ship.

Interesting perspective. I might quibble with the question of access to locally sourced seafood, since the ship does actually stop at lots of ports with fresh seafood. But your contribution is a good one. I'd hope they buy what is local at each port they stop at and not just rely on what they can buy in bulk at their home port.
