Mods feel free to move this, as I wasn't sure where to put it...

Anyways...

I had to stop off and pay a bill today and the woman behind the desk and I got to talking about WDW. She had told me that she had traveled there several times, as did I. She asked me if I would be staying on property as she had always rented a house. I explained to her that being that it was just my husband and myself, I didn't feel that we needed the room of a whole house, so we would be at POFQ (yea!). Then she gave me this look and said "Oh, it's just you and your husband....I think adults going alone to Disney is weird".

I just kinda stood there, like.....um????!!!! :rolleyes1

I know that there are plenty of Dis'ers that are adults and go with other adults, or by themselves....so I just had to vent! :scared1:

Regardless, we are still going to enjoy every second of our vacation!!! :goodvibes

Yep.. I get how you feel...

Our upcoming trip is just DH and I. DH won't even tell people at work where we are going, because of all the "but what will you DO there" or "and the kids ARENT going??" comments he's gotten.

I see you don't have kids listed in your signature, so at least be grateful you don't get "the look" when you tell people you are leaving the kids behind this trip..... you know the one that you'd probably get if you told someone you were making your kids sleep outside. in a box. in winter. for a week. yeah... THAT LOOK. :)

He's just telling them we're going to Florida.

And yet, if we told people we were going to Busch Gardens or Carowinds or Kings Dominion for the day/weekend... people would be saying "wow.. that's cool! have fun!!".. and yet.. somehow.. the thought of spending a week at an amazing resort, visiting 4 theme parks and a water park, seeing great firework shows and parades, and enjoying great meals -- WITHOUT KIDS --- somehow-- that's odd?

yeah. whatever. I can.not.wait and we are going to have a GREAT time!

(and the kids will go with us next April!)

You should have responded that you think people who stay off property are weird. :rotfl2::rotfl2:Just to see the reaction. :upsidedow
Nothing against staying off property of course!! :flower3:

My brother in law is like that (although we did get him to come with us this past June). He just doesn't get the allure of Disney and what Disney represents to a lot people. I fully intend at some point in the future to go on a solo trip sometime in early December because I want to experience Christmas season at the parks (sister is a teacher so she wont be able to go with).

My husband absolutely thinks that adults going to Disney without kids is weird.

I'd totally go by myself. Not with him, because he's a fun hater without the kids, apparently. Heh.

I don't have kids and tell everyone I am going to Disneyworld with three other adults, and we dine at character restaurants and take pictures with characters and proudly post them on facebook lol. I absolutely love Disney and if people think I'm weird I will get over it when I am on Splash Mountain :)

DH and I got that all the time the year we had an AP - it was just the two of us. We had a blast trying different restaurants and riding all the coasters. Now that we have kids, we have the perfect excuse.

We did a trip to California and did San Diego and DL. Everyone said "that's so silly taking your 18 month old to DL, she can't remember it." I said "well, I will remember it and the trip is actually so I can see DL"... same with out trip next year so that I can go to MNSSHP... everyone says "That's great you're taking your girls to the Halloween Party" and when I say "Actually, it's me that wants to go" they just sort of smile and having nothing to say.

Is it great to see the kiddos at Disney and how much they get into the Magic, yes... but in reality, I'm the one who is obsessed with the Mouse.

we have 3 teens but last year DH and I went without them to celebrate our anniversary. It was such an awesome and different experience! Favorite memory was sitting under a lime tree in Morocco just people watching :goodvibes

I couldn't see going without my kids until they get older, but just cuz they are so much fun to go with! I totally see DH and I going by ourselves when they are older though.
My parents went by themselves before they had my brother and I; my aunt and uncle even honeymooned there. My brother took a solo trip around the country to visit different people after he graduated college, and he did a one day at MK completely by himself.
We have adults not "getting" why we still do WDW even though our kids are older- like they think we were just going for our kids when they were younger. Hello?!? We ALL enjoy going! DS is a senior in hs this year, and all his friends, especially his girlfriend, are jealous he gets to go!
Don't worry about what everyone else thinks- you spend your vacation however you like! That lady was just plain rude. And for those other people- they're the "weirdos"! More room at Disney for the rest of us!

My DH and I went to Disneyland last year for our anniversary, world get over it!

Be you and happy, to each his own. :cool2:

actually, we are working on a trip in the not too distant future, with another couple...kid free...yup, gonna leave the kids at home and have some fun without them for a change.

Heck, me and my adult daughter are going to WDW in October! And we're not going to stop just because she "grew up" :)

We went on our honeymoon to WDW, then back without the kids for our 10th and 15th anniversaries! We've had so much fun both when we went with the kids and when we went without. Every trip has a different "flavor". It makes me crazy when people think Disney is just for little kids too, like..... "why would we go to Disney, our kids are teenagers?" Really???? Of course I do sort of turn into an 8 year old when I enter the parks! LOL!

pfffft on her. I have gone with my husband and left the kids at home!! I have heard it from people here and people in my life at how mean that was to leave my kids at home. but, whatever, it isn't like my kids are poor and deprived. My youngest went for the first time when she was 1 month old and has gone several times since.

WDW as adults and without kids is a totally different vacation, and one you should enjoy, just as much as with kids, but just different. Have a great time and who cares what people think!

Also, Dh and I went there for our honeymoon..without our daughter who was 15 mos old at at the time.

Dh and I went several times together before we even had children, and I went 3 times with just my mom and older sister, all of us adults.

There are lots of things I think are "weird" that people do when it comes to WDW, but I also know it is preference. Sometimes, it is hard to imagine things from other people's point of view, But I wouldn't say it to a perfect stranger in such a rude way!

While I can't see us ever going without the kids while they live at home, simply because they'd be heartbroken, I would have no problem going with just my husband. In fact I know we will. We enjoy it enough ourselves that we wouldn't have to have the kids with us. It would be a trip filled with Signature meals or maybe Food and Wine..it would be lovely. I don't see anything weird about adults going to Disney World, or standing in line for characters or riding the rides. I think Disney is ageless and most of the appeal is that it is magical for everyone.:)

My husband and I went for seven years in a row before we had any kids. We bought into DVC a few years ago and had to add on more points because we decided we wanted to make our adults only trip a yearly thing. So far we have been twice without our son (5 times with him, so he's not deprived) and it has been so much fun.

I've never gone by myself but this reminded me of something. And I don't see what the problem is I have always wanted to get married there!!! Ahh. Dreams haha.

But I remember back in 2009 when I took my 8 month old son down there and this one girl I knew said, "Why would you take him there so young he's not going to remember."

I couldn't believe it. I said ill remember and it's for me not him hahaha. Anyways the way she said it it was like I could only go once. I can take him when he's older too. Dreams come true more than once. ;)

Some people just need to keep their rude opinions to themselves we have no shame ;)
