Port Orleans French Quarter Q&A Thread, New for 2012 (thread now FULL and CLOSED)

It's not looking good for my return to FQ.

With the possibility of FD offers on Monday I sat my mom down this morning and we were exploring Andre's site for pictures since I knew there was a chance that we could not get FQ and might have to try for POR. She has been telling me along that she was along for the ride and wherever I wanted to stay is where we would stay, but I know my mom and since she was going to do a MOD for this trip (she really likes BC) and she is going to have to suffer a Value if she tags along on my Jan trip, I wanted her opinions.

She totally busted on FQ. She wants to try for the Royal Rooms at POR. She also liked the outside of AB but didn't like the interior of the rooms, so we will try for mansions even if we can't get a RR.

So I am going to have to go start exploring the Riverside thread. I'm fine with it as I have considered POR for a solo trip in the future. I will totally miss FQ but I think I'll like trying a new place that is at least a 'sister' to my favorite.

I am looking forward to staying here. We arrive in 10 days. Is it possible to ask for extra towels in our room each day? Also, do they provide pool towels? How is the food in the food court?

You can request extra towels and yes there are pool towels.

As for the food court you will get different opinions. We personally enjoyed the dessert options ( beignets, and the ice cream sandwiches) Pizza was not bad but the rest of the food was blah. My daughter had the chicken quesadillas ( hardly any chicken and cheese) I had the buffalo chicken sandwich and it tasted like it was dipped in salt. The CM's were kind enough to let me get a burger in its place. My husband had a cheese steak but he could not finish it due to lack of taste. Yes, I know it's cafeteria food but it just didn't work for us.

Did you happen to try the shrimp ones? I love the muffelettas at POFQ, that's my traditional arrival day lunch.

He was there in June when we went thought there was another door greeter chap there when we arrived taking Arnies place for his day off I suppose

Any reviews on the new person at the Scat Cat club now theat Elliot is gone? Heard he started last week.

We arrive in November and were really looking forward to seeing Elliot again.

POFQ is our favorite resort so even when we don't stay there, we go over for beignets at least if not lunch or dinner. We have tried the pizza (meh to me bc if I want pizza in Orlando I am driving to Flippers), meatball subs, burgers, & quesadillas. We liked them well enough for what they are and thought the selections were better than some of the other resort CS meals. Perhaps bc I have shellfish allergies but they went to the back and got fresh ingredients to make my chicken quesadilla and it was great.

I was all depressed bc we had to cancel our Nov. trip after we saw FD won't be offered for our dates. DH & I talked and even though our life is a little nuts right now (getting licensed to be foster parents next week so we could have little ones dropped off anytime) we decided to just move everything up and book a trip for 10 nights in late Sept/early Oct. I was so bummed bc only POR was available but I booked anyways and this morning thought I would check again and POFQ was available so I grabbed the phone fast and switched our reservation! So excited to be back home and praying we have one or two little people in tow!

Random question...does anyone know if you can buy the shower curtains at FQ? I'm not a criminal but I have never been so tempted to steal something in all my life. I LOVE it!!!

Standard or Garden View depending on where you face. Mostly Garden.

I think Andre's maps on portorleans.org have them marked (so you can see which ones are King or Accessible and therefore a seperate cat). Just click on the builiding map.

Bumping and Joining in!!

We are hopefully heading back to POFQ next June for our 2nd stay. We loved our first visit and can't wait to return.

It is such a beautiful resort with a great location. We were in building 4 in June 2012 and would love to stay there again on 2014.

Have there been any big changes in the last year or so??

Me too!! We check in to POFQ on Friday after our 2 nights at POP (DS request). I am just excited to be coming back to Disney! It's been way too long

No, I said it will be up by 1st of August, but hopefully a few days earlier if I get it in time.

So with the possibility there will be no free dining, I have moved past plan A and plan B and I am on to plan C

So plan C is a 4 night stay at POFQ pool view room (just booked), and then head over to the Swan/Dolphin to stay 5 nights on points. I rather stay POFQ the whole time but the cost is outrageous without a discount (we are arriving Thursday night before Thanksgiving and the Thanksgiving week prices are high).

So my question is, will 4 nights be enough time at POFQ? Has anyone stayed here and the Swan/Dolphin. Which did you like better? I would like to check out both resorts, not thrilled about a split stay but this is the only affordable way right now. Thoughts?
