Snake in my suitcase at POP Century

No, I'm not kidding.

On our third night, I found a 10" or so snake in my suitcase, which I had by the window near the door wide open (note- never doing that again, regardless of the location). We were on the ground floor in building 5 (60s) facing the water. I'm guessing it either snuck in while mousekeeping was cleaning, or got in through the outside vent.

I called the front desk and they sent a crew to come kill it, and we were able to move rooms and get 1 night comp'd. The manager was great and in the heat of the moment I just wanted it resolved. The crew initially thought it was the poisonous Colorado snake but it was just a corn snake. Still... a snake... in my suitcase at Disney World. Not exactly magical.

I'm posting this just as an FYI - ground floor/water view are really nice but I'll never request it again.

Just curious... has anyone else had this or something similar happen?

That beats a palmetto bug any day. No snakes, please.

Totally not Disney's fault, but I would have freaked. And I mean FREAKED!!!!! We just stayed ground floor near the lake in the 70s building. Eek!

Ah.. Welcome to Florida.. I walk out my back patio and sometimes one runs from me.. Little garter snakes just hanging out... I probably would have freaked seeing it in my suitcase!!! I would have nightmares for weeks being that close!

Last time I was at Pop I did notice there were a lot of snake traps on property.

I have heard of people on ground floors of various resorts finding snakes in their rooms. It's rare, but it does happen. I would have needed a bottle of Ativan to even enter *any* room after that. I won't even go into how I would have had to inspect every square inch of a new room before agreeing to stay there. And it would have to be the top floor. I hope you were able to enjoy the rest of your stay.

I don't know how many times we've been to WDW maybe 40, but I have NEVER taken a ground floor room for this exact reason! More the lizards, oh and ducks at the BCV, but I don't want ANY wildlife in my room!

All I can hear in my head now is, "There's a snake in my boot."

So what about the person at the CR on a higher floor who found the snake wrapped around the curtain rod a few years ago?

OP I can only imagine how traumatic it must have been to find that. I'm glad that the resort staff were able to help you out as quickly as they did.

I know it's no comfort to hear that snakes are ubiquitous at WDW (after all, it's in the middle of a swampy nature reserve). I'm sure that's one memory of WDW that will never fade.

Yup!!!!

Not fun, but it comes with the territory anywhere in the Southeastern US. If you live here you expect to see them on a pretty regular basis. Not a fun experience, but it is GOING to happen.

I hate to tell ya'll this but the snakes are coming onto Pop Century property because they have a food source! There is no other reason why they would be in such close proximity to humans. Pop Century needs to call in an exterminator and get rid of the vermin. Sorry Mickey!
Snakes "hear" through vibration so I wouldn't think they'd want to be anywhere near a busy resort unless the dining was good.
I can't count how many times I've stayed at Pop and the only critters I've seen waddle and hop!

Oh. My. God.

Props to you for handling it the way you did because seriously, I would have freaked and got the heck off that property. Did you have clothes in there? They should pay for you to get them cleaned. So gross.

Omg omg! I know it's not Disney fault but I would have really really freaked!

Note to self don't ask for ground floor ever again!
