Poor sick pup--UPDATE post 28

Also hoping Tiki is doing better today! :grouphug:

Tiki is hanging in there pretty well. He slept a lot this morning--I think he's pretty tired from his ordeal this weekend. No vomiting. He's had a few small loose stools, a few soft stools and 1 or 2 almost formed stools. I still see what looks like a little blood occasionally, but it looks 100% better than yesterday. He ate breakfast but he has only picked at supper. But his demeanor is pretty normal--giving kisses, running to the door when he hears one of us come in, doing his little "gotta go potty" dance. :goodvibes He even showed a little interest in some bunnies that were playing tag in my neighbor's yard across the street.

I have to go down to Mobile to see my Mom this weekend. Mother has a nice dog and 2 cats, which Tiki has met before. DH & I were going to take him with us, but we've decided he needs to stay home with Tiki. I think a trip out of town right now might not be a good idea for my doggy, at least until he recovers more.

Yikes! Maybe I spoke too soon. Tiki just had a watery stool with obvious blood in it on my hardwood floor. Not a ton of blood, but definitely there. I have to go to work in the morning, but I'm putting DH on poop watch. If he has more of these watery-bloody stools, Tiki's going right back to the vet!

I would hold the food until no blood at all- that's what we did. The vet said the stomach/intestines need to heal. If I remember he said it was ok to hold food for a at least 24 hours- even 2 full days if needed, and no water for the first 12 hours( he gave Iv fluid ). It was evening, so we picked the water up that night. But don't take my word, give your vet a call in the morning :) that's what we pay them for!

Tiki ate breakfast and had a small brown sticky stool--better than yesterday. He is pretty happy and active. I went to work in the city today, so I wasn't home to watch him. I tried to get hold of DH to ask about him, but DH didn't call me until 4pm. And then he reported that Tiki had not had anything to drink all day and was making little oxblood poops. Seriously? And you didn't think to call the vet? I called the vet right away and they wanted to see him immediately.

Thankfully, Tiki is not dehydrated but he has lost 1-1/2 pounds since Monday (2 days), which is a lot for a little Bichon. The vet gave him something to stop the diarrhea and some probiotics, and let us take him home since he's in decent condition. Which was fine with Tiki--he started shaking as soon as we went inside the vets office. :guilty: Poor baby. He's had a lot of painful stuff this week.

The vet said he would allow Tiki to have a couple of ice cubes in his bowl, but not to give him unlimited quantities of water. No diarrhea since we got home and he did manage to squeeze out a few drops of urine. I really need this dog to get better quick--I have to go out of town tomorrow afternoon for about 4 days. DH is going to stay home with Tiki and I will be keeping VERY close tabs on the situation, believe me!

When our first bulldog had HGE the vet kept her for two days. Praying for little Tiki. We are battling on and off colitis so I am with you on poop patrol.

Bummer. So sorry to hear the latest about Tiki.

Send him up to MA, he can stay with us!! :goodvibes

Seriously tho, what in the world is oxblood poop? :scared:

It's just what it sounds like--jelly-like poop that's the color of oxblood(maroon)...I know, right? :crazy2: Thankfully, that has stopped. Yay!

That sounds like frank blood. Could he have a GI bleed? Did they checked a Hct today?:worried:
