Can anyone tell me whether or not I can purchase the dining plan if I rent DVC points?

Thanks!

Yes, you can :). Just let the owner know so he/she can add that to the reservation. Also, when staying on DVC points, you can add the DDP without having to purchase park tickets.

In addition to what mickeynut said, the dining plan has to be paid in full when it is added to the reservation.

Which means that the owner has to add it and pay for it, because only the owner can call Member Services to change the reservation. Renters and owners work out their own methods of getting the DDP paid for. Contact the member you are renting from and let them know you would like a dining plan.

Okay, so is this only when I'm renting directly from a DVC member? What if I use David's Vacation rentals?

Member Services will never deal with anybody but the actual member. Even if you rent through a broker, you will not be able to contact Member Services to add the dining plan.

You can ask if the brokerage has a system regarding adding of the dining plan and changing of the reservations in which they contact the member for you, or if they will set you up with the member for this purpose.

Davids has a system set up so that you can call and add the dining plan through them. I believe they then contact the person who sold them the points and have them add it on. You pay David's, David's pays the DVC Member.

This is correct and exactly what we will be doing. Just so you know you have to call David's directly. They will not do the transaction through email. You give them the card number that you want to have the dining deducted from and they contact the owner directly and give them your card number to pay for the plan. If you feel uncomfortable about giving them your cc number I believe that you can purchase Disney gift cards and use these instead. Hope this helps.

i inquired with the DVC rental store...we will looking for the end of april and the agency couldn't give me a quote until september because it has to be 7 months out and the 2014 dining plan rates were yet to be released...i contacted them on Thursday...I found that to be a little strange being the rates were released on Wednesday.

Resort rates for bookings for cash were released. The DVC DDP price has not been, as far as I know. DVC members can't add the DDP until they are. As for the room, DVC members can only book 11 months out for their home resort, 7 months out for non-home resorts. That has no relation to the 2014 room rates.

Thanks...still trying to figure out what to do...book right through Disney or get points and run the risk of not being able to use a promotion.
