We will be staying at Riverside for 9 days in October. We have stayed at the resort before so I am familiar with the food court but this will be our first stay with my DD needing a GF diet. If you have experience eating GF at the riverside food court please give me advice. Do they have GF waffles or pancakes? What about GF pasta, pizza or chicken nuggets? GF muffins or desserts? Any personal experience will be appreciated. This is my first trip planning for GF and I would love any advice to make this easier for my DD. She loves the mickey waffles so really hoping they have GF!

Just wondering, can you make a request for a room that is classified as a pool view if you are just booking standard? I am guessing they will not allow that now since they created the room categories?

They will call a chef for you to fit your needs. It really makes up a lot a chef's day to fulfill dietary needs, Disney is great with that.

Wanted to amend my comment about building 27 being far from parking. It wasn't too bad after all. We just misunderstood the map and went the long way around. LOL

I have a question about the murphy bed. Can I remove the mattress from the murphy bed and put it down on the floor?

Countdown: 36 Days and I received my Mickey Mail today! YAY! :cool1:
(I didn't get the extra ME tags I called and asked for, but it could have been in the mail already. I'll wait about another week and if I don't receive a seperate mailing, then I might call again.) :confused3

Well you can request it, sure. You might even get it if they happen to have spare capacity and are feeling generous, so no harm at all in asking politely.

However remember that is not what you have booked, and other people will have paid extra for those room types. I guess it's a bit like paying for a 40-inch television and then asking the shop if they wouldn't mind sending you the 46-inch model instead if they've got any spare. :)

Easily done! There are lots of lovely meandering pathways around Alligator Bayou, and sometimes there are quicker routes than taking the official signs and the grey-coloured main paths. Walking through the middle of another building sometimes helps cut down the detours too (not always though).

No reason why not as far as I know. They are Velcrod down (I think) but can easily be removed.

I love you guys! Already planning our 2014 trip have started saving and gave up my 2 trips a day of Starbucks ($200 per month). Planning on booking once the packages are released in July for next July or August. POR will be my resort of choice... Here is my question: we were upgraded to a RR pool view. Talk about spoiled! The thing is my boys LOVED the quiet pool. They did not like the main one (confused). They loved going for a swim at midnight right by the room. Looking at the map I see all the mansions have close access to quiet pools. Without crossing fingers on requesting a mansion room... Would a PR give us close access to a quiet pool? I can't tell? Or would the only way to guarentee a quiet pool would be to pay for pool view?? TIA

Just returned home last night from 9 nights at POR!! LOVED the resort! It is HUGE though. Tons of walking. But it's so gorgeous! Can't wait to share with everyone about our trip!!!

I'm a little confused. I've seem some discussion that buildings don't have elevators. I have pretty bad knee issues which would make climbing stairs arduous. We're reserved for Sept 24-Oct 1 for a Royal Room. Will we have elevators available, or should I make an effort to arrange a ground floor room? Any insights?
I just returned and had a healing dislocated knee during the trip. I sent in a fax about a week prior requesting a ground floor or near elevator room as close to the main buildings as possible due to the mobility issues. They were great - we had a ground floor room near the fountain in parterre and it was extremely convenient. I had no problems navigating even after a long park day.

Hi!

Just booked for our November trip! Excited to be trying out POR, and will be spending some more time on this thread. Booked a standard room and requested 2nd floor, corner room and bldg 16 if possible. So hopefully we will get at least one of those requests!

Looking forward to learning more here!:goodvibes

We just returned from an 8 night stay at POR in a Royal garden view. We absolutely loved the resort to the point I'm seriously conflicted about our next trip (considering a family suite at AoA - since there might be 5 or 6 of us).

I thought I'd provide a review with some ideas for anyone traveling with knee issues or little kids. I dislocated my knee a few months before our trip :(

We stayed for 8 nights (6/20-6/28) - my mom, my daughter (age 4), my son (age 2) and me. We had 6 park days (but returned mid-day almost everyday for some pool time) and 3 days that were primarily resort days (while I was at a conference). The resort had a great balance of disney theming and less stimulation. The kids really benefited from early park days with a mid-day break (even though my son napped in his stroller most days) - it was nice to go to the quiet pool or the kid pool at the main pool area to cool off and chill out. They never melted or had issues at the parks when we took breaks. Every kids different but this strategy worked really well for us. It was also nice to have a sit down meal 1x per day - my kids are used to it and this gave us a nice cool down and eat together period. We found the quick service meals (no matter where they were) to be a bit chaotic and tougher with my sons dairy allergy. We did a bunch of character meals - which also served well since my kids loved them and it kept us from having to wait in long hot lines in the parks.

Mouse-keeping and the resort staff were great with us (kids loved the towel animals we got the first few days) - our room was chaotic with stuff but they did a fantastic job cleaning. On our departure day - my daughter came down with a 24hr stomach bug and she threw-up outside near the ME bus area. The greeter was fabulous at trying to make her feel better and help us clean-up (she was really upset getting sick in public).

Room organization - I can't say enough about bringing hanging shelves, pop-up hamper and laundry bag. They worked wonders. We did laundry 1/2 way through the trip. Easy and convenient with the hamper and laundry bag. Little kids go through a ton of clothes in this type of heat. I packed clothes for each day in a ziplock for each kid. Made getting ready for early park days a cinch. My mom commented that she thought I was a nut when she first saw them a then changed her mind by day 2. Lol. Being able to hang out at the quiet pool and do laundry made it bearable and easy.

Transportation wise - we had a mixed bag. Loved the boat to DTD and FQ. Serious draw for me with the kids. The buses - while convenient most of the time - are tougher for those traveling with multiple strollers. In my opinion - easy and manageable with older kids and adults. Little stroller bound kids - a bit painful. You have to constantly collapse strollers and try to juggle kids and stuff into a busy bus. We rented a car for part of our trip (due to my offsite conference) and I was very happy that we did. I planned to take the buses more - but it was often easier and faster to drive. I rented from the on-property Alamo - pretty inexpensive ($185/wk) and easy shuttle to and from the resort. I would definitely rent again until the kids are older. We brought their carseats with us (flew southwest - free and doesn't count towards baggage). The other plus was we had a number of table meals at other resorts and I didn't have to stress about getting there on time or factor 60-90 min of travel time which is hard with toddlers.

One last item (in this really long post) - is if you have mobility issues - do not hesitate to visit guest services for a guest assistance card. It was worth its wait in gold and they are so helpful. I was worried about perceptions with the recent abuse of this service and brought a note from my doctor (did not need it). I'm in a knee brace and have a difficult time with stairs, moving walkways and standing for long periods - being able to use the wheel chair entrance made all the difference in this trip. I also had a case of instant ice packs shipped to the resort in advance (along with water, soy milk, and diapers - great idea). Taking breaks and being to apply an instant ice pack made it possible for me to do the parks and push a stroller.

If anyone traveling I similar circumstances has questions feel free to holler - we had a great trip - due in large part to the advice I got through the boards on mobility, allergies, and traveling with small kids. We can't wait to go back - I already want to plan our next disney adventure.

We were there a few weeks ago and had a RR garden view. The quiet pool was 'behind' our room. We walked right past it and up the stairs on the end of Oak Manor every morning and night coming to and from the parks on our way to the footbridge. I think there are other views that would put you close enough, but it you want to be right next to it, or want to ensure you're not far away in Parterre, I'd suggest booking pool view.

Thanks! That's actually where we were... Parterre place it was awesome.

I'm worried about my knee too! Just went through getting an injection and will be getting second one right before my October trip. Still wearing an immobilizer and worried about getting around....Booked in a RR. Keeping fingers crossed! Glad you did well!

My kids love the quiet pools too. We've stayed once at the Poly and once at POR, and both trips, we used the quiet pools more than the main pool.

There are five quiet pools at POR, three in AB and two in the mansions. None of the rooms is terrible far from a quiet pool, because there are so many. We were in building 38 at POR, which is probably as far from a quiet pool as you can get, and it only took us a minute to get there.

Requesting a Royal Room won't put you any closer to a quiet pool than any other room. In fact, the far rooms in Parterre look among the furthest from a quiet pool, and even they're not very far.

If being able to SEE the pool from your room is important, than book pool view. Just be aware that if you just book a pool view room, you might end up in AB. Some of those rooms are close to the main building, but some of the pool view rooms are pretty far out.

Otherwise you can request mansions (if that's what you want) and near a quiet pool.

If you want a similar room again, the only way to guarantee it is to book a pool view royal room.

Thanks Christine! We don't need to actually see the pool so you cleared up the fact I don't need to pay xtra for a pool view. I am thinking maybe a preferred room. Thanks for the feedback :)

Can someone tell me if the pools on riverside close early?

Earlier than what?

From the FAQ in the first post (which I assume you have read? If not, it might be an idea to read it now):

Ol’ Man Island contains Riverside’s main feature swimming pool, which is themed as an old-fashioned swimming hole located on a wooded island surrounded by the Sassagoula River. The main pool has waterfalls and a 95 ft slide, plus there’s a separate kiddies pool, hot tub and the Muddy Rivers Pool Bar if you just want to sit on the porch with a drink. Life guards are on duty until 8pm (10pm seasonally) when the slide closes, but there are often people still swimming until well after midnight. Towels are provided free of charge and there is a towel-return bin next to the pool.

Port Orleans Riverside also has five smaller ‘quiet’ pools – two in the Magnolia Bend area and three in Alligator Bayou. These are open 24 hours, but they do not have lifeguards or provide towels (although there are towel-return bins). There are guest-operated pay laundry facilities at each of the quiet pools ($2 per load, plus $2 for drying).
