We are seeing a lot of colour already!! And over half of the people that have reported a weight this week are already at over 50% towards their monthly goal!
How wonderful!!
Happy Monday everyone!!
I hope this thread will become livelier again during the week!!!
I woke up to a wonderful surprise on the scale this morning. It dropped another 0.7 pounds since yesterday. I am nearly at my lowest pre-vacation weight and then I can start getting even further down! So excited!!
Big BRAVO for that!!
Unfortunately after lunch I could not resist the temptation of trying out the new ice cream our usual coffee place has added. It was delicious, but it cost me 4 points!!! But I had lots of veggies for lunch and am planning on eating more for dinner!
Four points isn't so bad! Especially if you really enjoyed it!!
Summer is just such a great time for fruit and vegetables! I am enjoying peaches and berries and real ripe tomatoes so much at the moment. :
We have had plenty of berries and the good peaches have started to trickle up here, but no tomatoes yet. We haven't seen much of our organic gardening friends and hot house spring tomatoes are a big cash crop for them. I should give them a call.... they are good about letting me buy "rejects" from them.
Good morning! I think I killed the thread Hopefully everyone is just super busy. Here's your QOTD inspired by my cutting veggies this morning for grilled chicken salads for dinner tonight (to which DS7 informed me "I'm not a vegetarian, you know.")
What is your favorite vegetable? Do have a specific way you cook it or like it cooked? Do you have a recipe to share?Jill
Favorite way to cook most veggies is ROASTED and/or GRILLED! So yummy for nearly every type/kind of veggie. I even tried grilling heads of romaine recently for a change.... it was interesting. We all ate it, although I think some of us enjoyed it more than others!
Favorite veggie recipe is probably my layered ratatouille. Here is a link.... bottom of the page post #105. It is a SUPER SUMMER recipe. Late last summer I made one with the last of the real summer tomatoes and squash and I froze it.... and it was SO NICE to enjoy mid-winter! Like a taste of summer for dinner!

Hello all sorry I feel off the face of the WISH boards.
I gained weight back and felt defeated. However, I am finally REALLY exercising to the point where I feel stronger.
So glad you came back to visit us and that you are getting BACK to exercise! The weight will come off again. Remember our motto...."NEVER GIVE UP!"
Best wishes to all. Great pic pjlla!
Thanks.
We love sauteed zucchini or green beans in the saute express garlic butter! OMG delish!!!
Sounds very yummy!
GREAT PIC!!!
Thank you.
So I have brag a bit about my Hubs.. he has gotten on board with walking - he walked 3 of the 4 days with me last week and last night he even asked if I wanted to run then challenged me to "beat ya home" run from the corner to our driveway! I am soo glad.. as a chef he is on his feet moving all day but that is stuff his body is used to and I think he is getting it now.. I also completed the first 7 days of the my ab challenge.. I can see improvements even though I am not doing all in a big batch I can at least do 10 sit ups without stopping now vs. ZERO when I started day 1 !!
That is just WONDERFUL.... for both of you!!
Well, as I live in a climate where the average temp is about 10 degrees and we see the sun about 5 days a year, I don't do a lot about UV protection on a daily basis, although I'm always careful on holiday. I'm a Hawaiian Tropic girl (love the smell!!!)
As far as moisturising generally goes, I do a full body moisturise about twice a week, with legs more as they tent to be dry with me wearing trousers for work most of the time.
My face is probably the most neglected part of me, but I had greasy skin as a teenager, so have avoided much moisturiser since then!!
Funny that you are just the opposite of me. I have ALWAYS moisturized my face.... even in my teens..... but I rarely put lotion on anywhere else! I'm trying to get in the habit now as I get older and find that my legs and arms are looking dry.
Aww...congrats to DD. Isn't it funny how your body reacts to a change in our eating? My body always feels tired & sluggish after a poor meal choice (aka Chinese buffet ).
It wasn't so much that I "overate" but just what I was eating was much higher fat, sugar, carb than I am used to any more. Here it is, Wednesday, and my gut is STILL grumbling rumbling, trying to adjust to the weekend food! DH feels similarly when he splurges and eats carbs. He says it tastes so good going down, but the next day he feels so icky! That is our body's way of telling us to hold off on the junk!!
What a beautiful family! You don't look old enough to have a daughter graduating high school.
OOhhh... you are my BEST FRIEND for today!! I just had a birthday and am feeling like an OLD LADY! Thanks for the kind words.
I'm glad to see I didn't totally kill the thread. DS7 and I went to the movies & saw Epic. It was cute. And I managed to only eat a small bit of popcorn and NO candy!! On Mondays our theater has free small popcorn, so we each got one & we brought some home for DS10.
Nice job resisting. As anyone who has been on these threads with me knows, movie popcorn (and candy) is a HUGE "can't resist" item for me!! I can literally think of ONE TIME in my ENTIRE LIFE that I went to a movie and DIDN'T eat popcorn.... because I forgot my wallet and only had enough money on me to buy the movie tix for the kids and I!!
I just got done walking with the dog, but we got cut short because of threatening looking rain clouds. I have to pick up DS10 at 4:30, grill chicken for salads, and go to a school board meeting at 7. Idk if other places are having issues with budgets, but PA cut funding to schools & our district is getting rid of programs & not replacing retiring teachers. It's a total uproar in our town & I'd like to go hear what they are saying. So, I'm off & I'll be back tonight. Jill
Our town has been going through things like this for a while. We are a middle-income rural community and we just don't pay our teachers like the bigger towns and cities nearby.... so we lose good teachers because we aren't competitive with salaries. It is really a shame. I am so grateful for the good teachers that we DO have and are able to retain.... but when they leave for greener pastures, I don't really blame them. We have not lost all of our "extras" like music, gym, and art, but they only have them once a week.
I do like zucchini. When I was a kid, my mom would use thinly sliced zucchini instead of noodles in lasagna. Zucchini sauteed in olive oil and then parm cheese on top is rather tasty. Zucchini bread is quite a treat, although I need to find a recipe that uses honey instead of white sugar and whole wheat flour instead of white. Grilled is nice too! Hmm.... now I'm getting hungry.
I've heard of using sliced zucchini in place of the lasagna noodles and have ALWAYS been tempted to try it. DH loves lasagna but doesn't eat carbs... it would be a nice treat for him. That being said, I HATE making lasagna!!
Pamela DD looks beautiful!!! Tell her DS and I say congrats!
Thanks... will do!
Lisa my goal is to find a 10K sometime in October or November. I'm hoping a Turkey Trot shows up somewhere. I've been keeping an eye on the bulletin boards at Starbucks and on Active.com, I need to head to the local running store though and see if they know of anything.
I'm going to post my WOOHOO Wednesday early. Went to the chiropractor today and he asked how much I've lost. I told him I was stuck at 25 pounds, but as I laid on the table he said I could fit 2 of me in my pants, LOL. and they were my 14's. Guess I really need to go get some new jeans.
I also went for a walk today while DS16 ran with his friends. I stayed on the track at school and walked 4 miles. Did pretty good, my pace was 15:50. It was pretty hot though, so I didn't push as hard as I could have.
Monday we switch to early morning runs.
Congrats on the "woohoo" and on sticking with the running!
Good morning everyone. I have to go so some yoga but I wanted to make some comments while my computer is working right.
Pamela Congrats on the graduate. You have beautiful looking family.
Thank you so much!
I hope the school board meeting went well. I have seen too many good programs lost due to budget. It is really sad when education is being held hostage by politicians. You will see more and more of the older teachers retiring due to new things we are being held to. The schools are losing valuable educators that will be hard to replace if they do so at all.
Off to stretch my back
Have a happy and healthy day.
I knew you (and many of our teachers here) would be chiming in about Jill's post. I may be cheap with my tax dollars and I don't always vote for the newest cruisers or fire trucks.... but I ALWAYS vote to give the schools the money they ask for. Hopefully I will continue to do this even when I no longer have kids in the school system.
I totally agree. The meeting was actually pretty uneventful. It's so sad how more & more is dumped on teachers every year. We have 3 elementary schools & they are cutting a phys Ed teacher. So last year our kids had gym every other week. This coming school year, the classroom teacher is responsible for gym class and there is no phys ed teacher for elementary at all. It's just too much. These same teachers have been on a pay freeze for 3 years.
SO SAD!
The paperwork is starting to get to me. I swear Ieps have changed every year since I started. I have no time for teaching because I'm behavior tracking & progress monitoring! Ok...rant over
Hope you had a relaxing yoga session.
Jill
Having worked in the school system for the past 9 years, I totally understand! Too much time on paperwork... not enough time left to TEACH!
As a kid I used to hate vegetables. But my mother than figured out that I mainly hate cooked (and steamed vegetables). I love many when they are raw, grilled or baked. Favourite is difficult, but I would say all kinds of pumpkin and squash!
Yummm... love pumpkin and winter squash as well!
Pam, this is a lovely family picture and you look fantastic in that dress!!
Thanks! I bought it at Macy's last fall.... saw it in the clearance rack and fell in love with it, so I bought it with the excuse to save it for graduation. I never expected it to be cool enough to need a light sweater, but fortunately I had that white one in the closet. The dress is actually sleeveless.... but I don't mind an excuse to cover my old lady chicken arms!
QOTD Tuesday, June 18
What one piece of advice would you give a friend or family member who is just beginning a healthy lifestyle change?
I'll be on later for replies.
Jill
You need to make changes you can stick with FOR A LIFETIME.
my advice would be to plan, plan realistically what you can do exercise-wise and also food wise....fail to plan = plan to fail!!!!
I used that quote in my meeting last night!!
You might try this,
Buffy.
http://www.runningintheusa.com/Race/List.aspx?Special=halfmarathon This link is for half marathons but you can change it to 10ks and 5ks and by location. My CT geography is not very good and I have no idea where Blink is. I have no doubt you will be ready and have a great race!
Blink is right next to "Wink" and "Smile"!!
Yes, I leave in one week! Maybe I am being unrealistic but all our excursions have a lot of walking and I have to keep up with my Dumbo training onboard. Luckily there are several of us doing Dumbo so it will be fun to train with people for a change. I'm going to try and be very smart about my choices while still having a good time. I may be naïve but hopefully it will work.
Did you make it to WW this week? I think the topic will be VERY relavent to your upcoming trip! You are going to do great because you are THINKING ABOUT IT and PLANNING FOR IT!!
It will take twice as long and be twice as hard as you think it will but if you are persistent and never give up it will be better than you ever dreamed it would be!
That is GREAT!!
Sorry for the stressful day,
Magdalene. My old WW leader suggested that sometimes it is helpful to change the 24 hours that you track. Instead of tracking for today, Tuesday, from midnight to 11:59 p.m. that you start say with dinner tonight, Tuesday, and then add breakfast and lunch for tomorrow, Wednesday. It is supposed to help you if you find yourself running out of points at the end of the day because it is supposedly easier to keep on track at breakfast and lunch. I may not be explaining it very well. I think it is called "walking your points." Doesn't that sound like more fun than plain old tracking?
That is a great suggestion!!
Pam, that is one good looking family! And your kids are so tall!
Thank you. Yup.... I am the short one. DD is about 5'7" and DS is just skimming 6' even (hoping to beat his 6'1" Dad someday!). I am just 5'5" but was wearing major heels!
So the "Break in the Tiki Bar" party takes place this Saturday. What the heck ever made us plan it less than a month after getting back from vacay?! We seem to have everything under control though, a chef friend is making a pulled pork shoulder (yuck!), my MIL is making sausage and meatballs, another friend of a friend is taking care of the bartending, and I think I've planned a pretty healthy menu otherwise...shrimp, fruit, and cheese platters, and the requisite junk food for the kids. I definitely plan on staying away from the nice, fatty, potato and pasta salads and sticking with my tossed salad. This will definitely be one heck a test of willpower. We're expecting about 60 people, YIKES!! I'm sure it will be a great time though, even if we do get rained on.

Sounds like fun! What time should I be there??!!
I am so glad I asked this question. I think I needed to read all the answers & reevaluate my exercise & eating habits. Thank you to everyone for all the advice. I think it inspires others whether they are active in the conversation or just "lurkers" who read but do not post. In fact, if there are any lurkers out there, jump in! We don't bite...I swear!!
We nibble... and tickle.... and poke... but NEVER BITE!!
Need to vent for a minute...last month a cat had kittens under our mudroom (in our fenced in back yard where our 55 lb Australian Cattle Dog has a doggie door & comes & goes as she pleases). So, we brought them into our screened in back porch on our second floor so they would be safe. We've had them for about 5-6 weeks now. I found homes for 2 kittens so I have the mom & 1 kitten left. No one will take these cats. Every shelter & rescue we called said they are not accepting cats. Our option is to pay to spay them & they can roam our neighborhood or drop them off at a rescue that will just euthanize them
I understand there is an over population of cats, but we tried to do a good thing & support these cats. Ugh. I can't keep either because our dog isn't doing well with them. We've tried to introduce them, and I'm worried about the kitten still being too little & the mom scratching my dog. I'm just frustrated that no one can help us. And DSs want them to go to good homes. Ok...rant over.
Sorry I rambled there. I'm off to upload some pics to Walgreens & watch a movie with DSs. I'll be back later to check in.
Jill
Wish I were closer.... I would take them for sure. Put out some notices on bulletin boards around. You may get lucky. But as a cat lover, thanks for doing the right thing.
Happy Hump Day!! Whoop! QOTD Wednesday, June 19:
It's Whoohoo Wednesday! Share something that you are celebrating today, this week, or even this month
Jill
Ummm.... I didn't use the birthday excuse on Monday to overeat. I had indulged over the weekend due to graduation and Father's Day, but it would have been easy to indulge ONE MORE DAY.... but I didn't... and I don't really think I missed out on anything. The restaurant we went to on Sunday offered a free dessert since it was my birthday dinner (and graduation dinner and Father's Day dinner) and I shared it with my table.... so that was enough birthday indulgence for me! (Got bananas foster, in case any one was wondering!)
It's a marathon--not a sprint. There are going to be up days and down days. Days when you want to quit and throw in the towel. You don't have to be perfect, just keep trying.
hmmm.....still here and haven't thrown in the towel.
Best I could do today.
Have a great Wednesday!
As long as you continue to do YOUR BEST, that is all you can ask of yourself.

Okay.... caught up pretty much!
DS had his last final exam today.... he is home and relaxing and ready for summer! DD started lifeguard training yesterday.... it runs for 3 9-hour days! The pool is VERY COLD and she isn't really enjoying it. But she has been talking about doing it for ages and this class popped up at just the right time. It was VERY expensive (more than I thought) but hopefully these skills will help her in the long run.
I'm just trying to keep up with house stuff and yard stuff.... the usual. Eating is back on plan after the weekend, but exercise is still lagging behind. I'm putting every spare minute into house maintenance chores and yard work.
Busy swim weekend and college orientation coming up. Off to check those schedules so I know what I am doing this weekend!................P
