I must be the only person who never gets a stateroom hosts that leaves me extras. Ever. I've gotten to the point (twice now) where I needed to call down to housekeeping for extras as I'm stepping into the shower bc I didn't notice that I've already run out.

It was so bad that I literally had no bar soap to use, and DH had to prop the door open and ask our host guy for some straight from his cart.

I never get extras either One time I asked because we ran out, stateroom host said "it is available for purchase in the shops."

If you're eating dinner at a restaurant but you're not particularly thirsty do you only ask for 1/2 a glass?

If you can't finish your monstrous dessert at The Cheesecake Factory do you take it home to eat?

Do you ask for an extra coke on the plane?

Do you ask for an extra sickbag or fill the one you're already using before you get another?

Do you leave the cooling on in the hotel room if you're not in there?

Just asking...

I don't think there's anything wrong with taking 1 full or nearly full tube of each home at the end of your cruise (I mean, they throw them out anyways to replace with fresh), but you people who are bringing half a suitcase load home... Stop it! Please.

The only thing a room should giuve you is a good nights sleep. The clock radios, pillows, coat hangers and yes even the shampoo is provided for your use. Obviously there are cost to DCL for toiletries otherwise, they would not have cut Body Butter. Once you have taken the item I don't think it matters how you use it. The end never justifies the means. If you have to take it maybe you shouldn't have it. It may just come to that.

The major error in your logic is that you are comparing consumable versus non-consumable goods.

I cannot wait to get on my cruise and try this stuff. If there is such a fight over it, it must be an awesome product, right?? At The Grand Californian, they have H2O products. I wasn't impressed. I still took them home...

The room amenities are absolutely included in the price. There is no way people would be getting fresh bottles of product every day unless the price were factored in. No need to feel guilty about taking the stuff at all. They know that people take stuff home and factor it in. I think Disney is completely aware of how much product a guest will use on a daily basis and that they are providing more product than would be used during the span of a stay.

In other words, somehow I think they are on to the not so secret fact that guests take home unused product. You have been charged for it already. It is part if the package you pay for.

I must confess, I am a hoarder. I also have a large jar of matches...And we dont even smoke! Although, we no longer get those goodies.

Memories are very strongly linked to our sense of smell.

It's the reason, I mass planted gardenias. The smell reminds me of the Poly.

I'm not trying to get involved in the fray here, but I have a question. Do stateroom hosts have to pay or somehow account for the soap, shampoos, etc.? Are they accountable for what they take from the stockroom or is it just a take whatever you need situation? I know that when I get a haircut, the products my stylist uses are included in the cost, but she has to buy them herself. When I order Mary Kay or other products like that, samples are often included with my order, but the seller has to purchase them herself as well as the catalogs and other supplies.

On our recent cruise, we ran out of shampoo after the first night (there were four of us in one room) and it was not replenished the next day when our host came to clean up. I saw him in the hall later with his cart and asked for a couple of bottles and he gladly gave them to me, but his drawer on the cart was nearly empty. He gave me his last bottle of conditioner and said it would be OK because he would be able to get some more the next day. This was in the middle of the afternoon. I wonder what would have happened if someone else needed some, would they just have to go without? I couldn't figure out why he couldn't just go to a stockroom and grab some more if guests needed them.

They switched from body butter to lotion on DCL, due to the Resorts using only lotion. DCL needed to switch to lotion to join the Resorts for cost savings of a bigger purchase contract with H20.

Yes...I think "railagainst" was insinuating they did it because guests were taking the little tubes.

No you're not the only one. One of our room stewards actually took the used bottles out of the garbage can (the only thing in there at the time) and put them back in the shower (there wasn't enough conditioner for my long hair so I was a bit cheezed). We've never had them replaced everyday. We're lucky if we've gotten more than 1 set in a cruise.

I don't see the issue in taking what remains on the last day of your cruise (even if it's a full bottle) because the next person should have a new one. I don't think that people should be coming home with bags of it in their suitcase though.

I remember a thread recently where GF cookies were mentioned - they are the pre-packaged kind. One poster stated that she wanted to "load up" on them while on the ship to take some home. A number of posters were miffed and told her that was not okay.

I guess my question would be - what's the difference?

And if there is no difference than what else is it okay to take?

I love granola - especially the little boxes you get at breakfast - is it okay for me to pack a suitcase full of them to take home so that when I pull it out and enjoy it with my yogurt at work, I think of my fond cruise memories?

I think taking something that's opened that would be tossed out is one thing, I think hoarding bottles and bottles of stuff is another.

Would it surprise you that DCL actually knows that people take some extra home and they LIKE that? It keeps their brand before you and even makes you long to take another cruise.

I have long thick curly hair and use 2 bottles of both shampoo and conditioner to wash my hair. I have tried to do it in less and it is not sufficient to get all of my hair. Some people are implying that this is unacceptable. When a person goes on vacation, it is supposed to be a stress free zone. I don't think I should have to worry about how many shampoo bottles I may be using daily that may cause DCL to go "bankrupt". Someone mentioned that they were denied extra shampoo and conditioner? I pray to God that this never happens to me because I will complain immediately. To get denied extra shampoo I need to appropriately wash my hair and then told to go "buy" some at the shop? That is an insult to the people on board paying to be on the ship for something that is already included in the price.

I understand that the argument was started based on those who are taking some home, which I admit I also find silly, but it has turned into what quantities are acceptable for use or how the toiletries should be used in the room and that is plain ridiculous. Everyone is different with different hair and bodies, if people need more soap and shampoo/conditioner, they should get some with out others getting in a rut about it. Enjoy your cruise and let others enjoy theirs and please don't judge how others bath or wash their hair.

Wow, I had no idea. We sailed on the Fantasy last summer and I never paid any attention to the H2O products, probably because dh uses dandruff shampoo and my two dd's have very long thick hair and those little bottles are never enough so we take big bottles with us.

But, now, oh boy, I'm going to pay attention, especially that body butter/lotion thing!

No, I am a non-confrontational person (some would say "wimp") so I just let it go. I bring my own shampoo and conditioner, my kids and husband were the ones using it. They just used mine the rest of the cruise.

These threads seem to be for the purpose of making some people feel superior. I am a live and let live sort (again, some would say "wimp" lol)

Actually, the title was meant to be a fun play on words, but again, sarcasm is lost somewhere out there in the internets.

Although, I think you're taking a logical leap in your assumption that they "like" it.

And yes, the way I've heard some people describing their toiletry hoarding, I would describe it as hogging.

No need to feel guilty about taking the stuff at all. They know that people take stuff home and factor it in.

Sadly, they do know that some people will hide full or partially used bottles so they can get more and take them all home. Unfortunately, they do have to factor that in their prices.

So simple. The products are provided for your use in the cabin. Hiding a full one in your drawers/luggage so you can have extras to take home is wrong. That's why you're hiding it.

Inexpensive for Disney, of course. Do they expect that some people will do that, yes. Lots of people do it, yes. Not as dishonest as stealing other things, such as silverware, I guess there are degrees of dishonesty. A small thing in the big scheme, yes. Plenty of reasonable sounding rationalizations for getting extras to take home.

Would we take home a partially used tube instead of throwing it away? I think so, though not yet. Would we figure out some way to get extras to take home? Of course not. Disney bends over backward to treat us right, and we try our best to return the favor and mutual respect.
