How long do we have to wait for the Marvel universe to get its own land?

Until perpetuity wears out .

I'm trying to be reserved about this one, I would love for it to be true but that's an awful lot of money to be spent at one time.

I will say that if this does happen, this will make my family extremely excited and the time frame works out perfect for us, by the time of completion, my boys will 6 & 7, I can't think of a better age for them to enjoy both of these.....

It also seems like it would be a lot taken out of the park at once... unless they finish one part and open it fully before adding the next.

Going with the plan the author thought more likely, they'd have the entire Backlot, LMA, Muppets, a playground (not really a big deal, but playgrounds inside the parks are becoming scarce...), and likely the Streets of America all down at the same time. It'd rival the Great Wall of Fantasyland, only this time include more than a couple pieces that were pre-existing.

Not to say I don't want to see it, I do...and ready in time for October at that! I'm just a bit pessimistic about the overall timeline (as well as the veracity of it actually happening in the first place.)

Is there a projected time frame for when Disney would officially announce major expansions like these?

Speculation is that the announcements would come at the D23 Expo in August.

I think it's reasonable to expect these things will happen, though I still prefer a Pixar land to a Cars Land. 2018 is ambitious if only for the fact that in order to concurrently build both expansions, a lot of content evaporates from DHS in that time. It's not like this park isn't already hurting for lack of attractions.

I do want to see something new at DHS, I do want to see it grow. But I don't want to lose Muppets or Osborne Display of Lights. I cross my fingers there is a solution for both.

As much as I love reading this board, until Disney actually makes the announcement, there is nothing official about any rumor or speculation. I would LOVE this to be true, and I had a feeling from the day Disney bought Lucas such a plan would eventually be forthcoming, but I have long since learned to wait for real "official" announcements before getting too excited.

If that happens, it would most likely go to DLR as Disney isn't allowed to use Marvel characters in FL (due to the contract with Universal). There are rumors that they may use Marvel to create a 3rd gate in CA though.

I think it's inevitable that Disney will invest in DHS. I think it's likely that Cars or Star Wars or both will be represented. The company's investment in California is paying off very well, and DHS has the potential to see similar gains. Something might be made official at the D23 Expo.

HOWEVER... Allow me the jump on the bandwagon here... The title of this thread, "It is official afterall. Star Wars Land and Cars Land at DHS!" is WRONG. Nothing is official at this point.

Roberts Niles uses phrases such as "It looks as though." His article is about rumors. The Walt Disney Company has not announced anything officially about a major expansion of DHS.

I concur, DHS needs a MAJOR overhaul. It's not even a full day park anymore. I can blow through there in about 4-5 hours and see everything there is to offer. It's the logical place to bring in CL and SWL (especially since both are based on movies).

Not to beat a dead horse, but I read this title and then saw a link to an article associated with and got super excited...only to realize that the author is really just speculating (granted he may be more in the know).

I really hope its true and I definitely think this will happen, but seems like the article kind of jumps the gun a bit.

I doubt Universal is going to aggressively develop their Marvel area the way that Disney likely would. My best guess is that they'll just leave it much like it is until they get bored of witholding it from Disney/paying Disney.

Marvel (and thus Disney) has a say in development and upkeep of Marvel Island. So really the decision-making power lies with Disney. Even if Universal wanted to expand or refresh the Marvel attractions, they couldn't do it without Disney's approval.

I'm sure there will come a time when Universal feels the land has lost its edge. The two parties will then have to decide how to proceed. Disney may want to reclaim the rights so that they can use Marvel characters in Walt Disney World. Or, they could be content receiving the royalty checks from Universal, and allow them to refurbish or expand that area.

My point is seperate from this. I largely expect that Universal benefits more from Disney not having Marvel than doing any Marvel expansion right now. They are on a fine line between restricting access for Disney and actively promoting Disney product.

The situation is definitely a difficult one no matter how you slice it.

I think the Star Wars Galaxy (and it should be Star Wars Galaxy, not Star Wars Land) should take over not only the Muppets/Mama Melrose area, but the Indy Jones area as well. If it's either/or, I feel like that won't be big enough. Honestly, I think they need more than both areas, really.

But this is very welcome news.

My point was that Universal's motivation is secondary to Marvel / Disney whims.

Spider-Man just underwent a 9-month refurbishment to add digital projection system, upgraded audio systems, enhanced film, etc. So right now, Universal is spending money on the area.

Personally I think it's more likely that Disney would prohibit expansion rather than US being unwilling to spend. The Marvel licensing agreement was signed during the lowest period in the company's history. The value of its characters has grown dramatically over the last 15 years. I suspect Universal is quite happy with the value Marvel adds to its park (relative to licensing fees negotiated in the late '90s), even though it means doing business with their chief theme park rival.

I'm really starting to believe a lot of people don't understand the meaning of the word - or they are intentionally trying to troll.

It's fine to post a thread and say "More fuel for the rumors..." or something.

I'd post a joke thread right now, but I really don't want the mods mad at me...

Anyways...I'm hearing from a LOT of channels right now that there is a lot of internal buzz right now. It's still just a rumor on the rumor side, but it really seems to be getting close. Right now I'm about 75% confident in it. And the buzz I'm hearing is focusing on Star Wars taking Indy and the Backlot Express, not Muppets (which with another movie coming out, would seem like a bad idea...)

I'm not sure when the next major opportunity for Disney to "drop the bomb" is...how far away is D23 now?

I think they can find another place for MuppetVision 3D, either someplace else in DHS (replace American Idol Experience) or another park (replace Captain EO). Also could explore some of the areas around/behind Animation Courtyard to add a theatre.

I think with the future Muppets films coming out, especially if they are as successful as the first reboot, there will be a place in the parks for it/them.
