Fantasy Rainforest Room Review and Info

We cruised on the Fantasy from June 1-8, 2013. I have a couple of comments about the Rainforest Room that might be helpful to any of you who might wonder. . .

First of all - I got info on here that was not true for our cruise. Now, it might have been true on other cruises, but it changed or something. I was told that you could not get a cruise pass and that the best approach was to call Disney and order several day passes. So that's what I did. We ordered 10 day passes (one for me and one for DH for 5 days of the cruise). The cost was $150. When I got on the ship and went to the spa, we discovered we could have bought full length of cruise passes for the same cost. (That would have been for all 7 nights instead of 5!)

Also there is talk on here about two different costs? Something about extra money for extra services? They didn't offer that and acted like they didn't know what I was talking about. The rate was a flat $15 a day so the much better deal was the length of cruise pass IMHO.

There are 3 sauna/hot/steam rooms in there. The one to the right is a dry heat room. WEAR SHOES. The floor was extremely hot and slightly burned my feet! But the view from in there is awesome and it is nice. The middle one was EXTREMELY steamy. I couldn't breathe in there. The one on the left is a nice mix of the two, but be sure and take towels to fold over to sit on - the seat is hot - don't burn your bum! There are saunas in the changing rooms too, so if that's all you want - don't pay for the rainforest room - you can use the one in the changing room for free!

There are 4 different showers in the Rainforest room - a cool mist shower, a Fun with Water shower, and 2 others. My favorite one had an Atlantic ocean shower, a Caribbean shower, and another one. My fave two were the Atlantic and Caribbean. The scents from Soarin' (yay!) are in there and you can hear birds and it even thunders and "lightening" ! So fun!

We have sailed on the Wonder 3 times and love their RF Room. Comparisons: the Fantasy has two fabulous hot tubs with fabulous views. And I never shared a hot tub with anyone. They have fun lights you can play with at night - pretty awesome. There are plenty of stone warming chairs. I never had to wait for one - but a major downer is when the ship is moving, there is A LOT of wind noise leaking through the door. (You get to the hot tubs through the room with the chairs). There is a door there where the wind was whistling and pretty distracting when trying to relax. But on port days - this was a moot point.

There were always plenty of towels and robes and the lemon and cucumber water was always plentiful and refreshing!

One night I went in around 8:30pm (they close at 10pm). I gave them my KTTW card and said I wanted to use the RF room. I also tried to give them the little paper that had my days I had paid for (they had previously been marking them off) but they said - we don't need that - you can just go. I wonder if it was because it was so late that they weren't worried about it or whatever.

To answer a question I had read: yes - the pass is good for all day if you just buy individual days. They will put a little sticker on the back of your KTTW card and write the day on there so you can come and go.

I am happy to answer any other questions! Thanks to everyone who posts on these boards! I have been coming here since 1999 for answers to my questions! I love the DIS!

Thank you for the helpful info!

So it's better to buy the individual days on a daily basis (pay as you go) for $15/day than to buy the pass before you go at home or the pass when you get there?

Sorry I wasn't clear- my answer is buy the length of cruise pass on board when you first get on the ship instead of buying single days if you think you will visit that often. It was cheaper to do it that way then buy a lot of single day passes in advance.

I think the issue was that you could not buy day passes on board - not that you could not get a week long pass. It might be cheaper to get day passes on the Dream with the shorter cruises.

I have read on the Disney Mom's Panel that you can get single day passes from the spa after boarding the ship. They do not need to be pre purchased.

Anyone know if you buy the day pass can you upgrade to the one for the entire cruise? Also, can you get a pass for the entire cruise on the Dream 3 and 4 night?

I was on the same cruise! I have to add that the stone chairs get REALLY hot, so use a towel. Also, if you want to take a shower afterwards in the changing room, bring a washcloth to scrub as they don't provide any.
On Friday afternoon, they did run out of towels and robes.

Sometimes. If they sell enough week-long passes, they will not sell day ones. On the Wonder recently, they didn't sell day passes and made me select in advance which days I would use the prepaid ones.

Sometimes the onboard day pass price is $26. This appears to depend on the mood of the spa staff. They were definitely that price on our March 2013 cruise. Personally, I'm not going to take a chance on our next cruise. I'll be purchasing them ahead of time.

But you can't buy a whole week pass beforehand, right? You buy individual days?

On our cruises they only had a limited number of the cruise length passes to sell. That's another reason to buy ahead of time.

I believe that is correct. We booked through DCL directly, and I asked for a cruise-long pass but the CM gave me day passes for the duration of the cruise. When I called back to book my parent's room, I asked the CM about this. She put me on hold to inquire about it with her supervisor, and it turns out that DCL reservations are only able to sell day passes; cruise-long passes are only sold on the ship. (Although she suggested that if I'm interested in them I could inquire with my shore-side concierge when they contact me before our 120.)

I was told that the day passes I bought were only refundable up until 3 days before we cruise -- Is that correct? If we bough day passes and then got a cruise-length pass on the ship, would they offer us OBC for the day passes? That would be my concern with buying ahead when I really want a cruise-long pass...

Ok good to know. Will buy the separate day passes just in case I can't get one onboard. Its the only part of the spa I'm interested in.

I did the RFP on the Fantasy and LOVED it - my favorite things were the showers the heated loungers and the hot tubs. I am going on the Wonder in September and although I have been on the Wonder before, I never considered the RFP on that cruise. I am thinking about getting it on this upcoming cruise - but I have heard it isn't as nice on the Wonder as the Fantasy? As you have done both, can you let me know your thoughts on this? Thanks

I would also like more details about the Rainforest Room on the Wonder. Are the same showers available, Hot tubs, Steam rooms?
My understanding was the major difference was the view.

There are not hot tubs with the RF on the classic ships.

There are 3 showers, 2 steam rooms and a sauna in the Wonder RF room. Also, only 4 chairs and another stone 'bench' area that isn't very comfortable. Much smaller than the Dream and more than 6 people or so in there is a crowd. They try to make people move from the chairs after about 20 minutes but I've been in there when there were some people who stayed more than an hour.

I liked the sauna on the Fantasy, but I have to admit it was because of the view. I love the showers of course, and I love the heated chairs BUT - I did like that you were in a big open area with a view out over the ocean. From what I understand, the Wonder heated chairs don't come with a view? Do they charge the same as the Fantasy, because it doesn't seem like it would be worth the as much money? I guess I'll have to see what the price is and then decide...
