Contacted the IPO today about the beach pool and the following was their answer.

The beach pool is open!
Have a GRAND afternoon!

Hurray! It will be open when I'm there!!!!:cool1:

Thanks!:thumbsup2 I was going to call the resort today if no one posted.

by opened does that mean the walls are down?

I doubt the walls are down, as the beach is still the staging area for the DVC construction. I think they mean it is re-opened from the short maintenance break of May 30-June 1.

I wonder if the waterfall is operational? I thought it was possible this maintenance was to fix the waterfall, but that's just speculation.

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaccccccccccccccccccckkkk :goodvibes So in my true ch-ch-changing ways....I've changed this morning to RPC. Am I nervous about the view...NOPE. Am I nervous about the Grand...NOPE. My DS4 and DDs all keep asking about the Grand. It's my DHs 40th birthday trip..he's getting his Portofino Bay trip, which shortened MY WDW time...therefore...I booked GF (after many many changes...no shocker to my friends here:lmao:). I've decided not to make any requests, it's only 3 nights...I just am going to enjoy RPC and the new pool!!! :beach:

Congrats on the change.....RPC is my favorite CL :cloud9:.

I just completed my upgrade to SL and my room reques :woohoo:t. I ended up requesting a balcony and a courtyard pool view.

I simply adore the view in this pic. Anyone have a room number on this?

We had a pretty marina view when we stayed SL, but the courtyard pool pic above is very pretty as well :goodvibes. SL is very convenient to the courtyard pool, which comes in handy for grabbing snacks and drinks if you will be spending a lot of time at that pool ;).

I am a die hard poly fan,,but we are considering gf due to construction issues. Have to say this board is a very nice group!

The Poly is my favorite resort overall, but the GF is great as well. I'm sure you will have a fabulous trip if you do choose the GF :).

Thanks! I was thinking Contp since we still have small kids, but, I think that we like to look out on to water, where as at the Contp you do have a great view of MK but when you look down it is the parking lot. Oh I know that is nothing to complain about, lol, but given the choice for us I think the GF view would suit us better.

ohhhi did not know it was down. That's good new for people going soon! I am fixated on those beach walls, lol.

We've never done CL before(SL) Where do I go to check in? We will be arriving via taxi.

Your taxi will be stopped at the gate and the guard will ask if you are checking in. The CL cast members should approach you as you arrive at the main entrance, but if they don't, ask the greeter to get someone from CL for you. If there is no greeter (unlikely), go to the front desk and tell them you are checking in club level. They will contact someone to escort you to the SL building.:flower3:

Thank you. It all sounds very "rock star'ish" :rotfl2:

Ok we checked in today and I know all you LOVE the Grand Floridian but we HATE, HATE, HATE it! We miss our home at the Contemporary. It started at check in. The room wasn't ready so I gave them my cell number. We still hadn't heard anything by 1:30 and my grandson was exhausted. We decided to go back and ask about the room....it was ready and had been since 11:30 and they argued with me that they sent me a message until I finally got my phone and showed them no message...no big deal though the room was ready and that was the main thing...till they told me where it was. I did online check in last week and asked for Sago Cay (or is it Key it's too late tonight) but I had also called a while back and personally asked for it and when they did our check in I saw this request noted in a paper she had. Where did we get? Big Pine...the EXACT OPPOSITE side of the resort or our new term...the back forty because its 40 miles from ANYWHERE you want to be. I also asked for a high floor and we got the 2nd floor. I explained to the desk that I understood just because I asked for a building didn't automatically mean I would get it but it seemed like they put us in the exact opposite that I had asked for. Their reply was sorry it was the only building that had 2 rooms near each other...bull! So I take it because the baby needed to rest, in our room because my daughter's room wasn't ready. We get in and look out our window to the balcony and what is our view? The DVC construction site! Then when my daughter and son in law get into their room they have no DVD like we do. I go BACK down and across the back 40 to the front desk to tell them and to tell a manager how disappointed I Amanda I did talk to a WONDERFUL woman, a greeter I think, who got me a manager who we go through the whole story with again. One reason I asked for Sago Cay is because my Aunt, in her mid 70s is with us and has a hard time getting around in the evening. So he really doesn't say much to me AT all and I finally tell him to just switch they keys to the rooms and put daughter, son in law and grandson in the room with the DVD and us in the room without. He did this.

While I was waiting there were 2 other people having MAJOR problems ...even worse than mine so I didn't throw a host fit. The guy ahead of me was from Scotland had 3 rooms and they had not informed him of the pool being closed and had sold them the wrong tickets so the guy and his kids had gone to a park and they refused to let them in...I don't know if they maybe didn't buy park hoppers or if it was something else but they were not helping him AT ALL.

So later we had to get something out of the car, which was in valet, and I called to get it brought around....no answer AT ALL!! We just went on down and I told them I called to have the car brought around but didn't get an answer. The manager, the same one who was NO help to the Scottish guy, told me, "We Aren't doing call ahead valet because its too busy out here"... Which wouldn't have been bad BUT (1) they refused to even take calls so you didn't know WHAT was going on until you hiked the back 40 AGAIN and (2) THERE WAS NOTHING GOING ON... No traffic, no cars , no people.

This evening we went to DHS and we had to hike the back 49 plus 10 more to get to the bus stop. When returning this e ending they continued to pack people in until we couldn't MOVE AT ALL. There were probably about 15 to 20 of us standing in the aisles and of course we were the last to be dropped off.

At the Contemporary every single time we come back from the parks we are greeted with someone telling us , "Welcome home" . We have had NO ONE say anything to us AND my daughter to my grandson into one of the stores nd the store clerk not only didn't acknowledge they came in, the only 2 in the store, but she was short to her.

Now we have had a couple of nice CM's...housekeeping, the actual ones getting the rooms ready have been really nice (although when I called this evening for a blanket for daughter 2 on the couch bed the CM on the housekeeping on the phone argued with me that there was 2 blankets in the room...there were none they apparently mistook a pillow for a blanket because we had 3 extra pillows).

The bellhop, Whitt, I THINK ...I have his name written down....who was GREAT! HE told us where the pools were and their hours and where Gas? Grill was and that we could see the Electric Water Parade and about the boat and the hidden Mickeys, Goofys and Tinkerbelles, even pointing them out to us!

The Contemporary is our home and we booked the Grand because the Contemporary was booked when I had to change our reservations. We were excited though to stay in Disney's "Flagship Hotel". We are NOT impressed and if I could move to the Contemporary tomorrow we would do it in a heartbeat. I'm going to be writing a long letter when we get home. We paid close to $8,000.00 for our vacation for 5 days/5 nights park hoppers with the dining plan and we still feel like most of the staff could care less about making us satisfied. Anyone know who I would call or where I would write to complain?

I'm sorry your trip started poorly. I don't intend for this to sound mean (honest) but:

1) Check-in is at 3:00. They may have messed up on the text (and their insistence that they sent it) but while you can hope for your room to be ready before 3:00, you shouldn't expect it.

2) You can request a certain building but there's no guarantee you'll get it. Possibly, based on your asking for a room sooner, they put you in Big Pine because those two rooms were ready before anything in Sago. Or perhaps there were no two contiguous rooms available in Sago. Really, why would they b.s. about that? You asked for a "high floor". Maybe they read that as "not ground floor" (which was one of our requests because of privacy and my wife doesn't like the idea of critters crawling into the room from the grass!). Your best bet is to make room requests describing WHY you want that particular room or building. That way, they can be more helpful getting you something you want if they don't have that building or floor available.

3) What would you have expected them to do to help Mr. Scotland? If he was refused entry into a park he obviously didn't have a ticket to get into the park (I agree with your guess; he probably didn't have a PH or thought he could use two days of tickets on the same day). All they can do is sell him a PH upgrade. The fact that he didn't know the Beach Pool was going to be closed indicates he probably didn't do much research. That wasn't exactly a secret:

http://www.wdwmagic.com/refurbishments-history.htm

4) can't argue with you about crowded buses. But that's a general WDW transportation issue, not specific to GF. Aren't Cont and GF on the same HS bus loop?

It seems WDW missed the opportunity to make you feel better about the problems. Sometimes a few smiles and a show of concern make it seem a lot less bad and apparently they didn't do that for you.

Hopefully, the rest of your trip is much more fun and some of the Disney magic helps soften the early hassles.

Thank you. It all sounds very "rock star'ish" :rotfl2:

 You DO feel very special when they greet you by name and escort you either upstairs in the main bldg. (RPC) or out to the SL bldg. They sometimes have the room ready, in which case they will let you deposit your things and then check in at the CL desk. If it is not ready, they will take you to a CL CM and they will personally check you in and ask how you would like to be notified that your room is ready. Very nice, stress free mode of check in.:lovestruc

This is definitely right on the mark - often, the attitude of the CMs (or any customer service personnel) can make all the difference in how a problem is perceived.

I do hope Rhongepooh and family had a good trip overall, I'd love to hear how the rest of it went, good or bad.:flower3:

Uh oh, I already have a feeling that we are going to be CL for life. I'm not quite sure what took me so long to figure that out.

I'll tell you the truth, we've had the pleasure of surprise club-level upgrades for our last 2 trips, and we are SPOILED! It's hard to imagine going back to a GV room, although they've always been perfectly lovely.

Have a great time!

I agree. The CR does have a great view of the castle, but the views from the GF are hard to beat, IMO. We've stayed RPC, SL, and GV and I don't think there are any bad views at the GF. Plus the MK is the first stop on the monorail, so it's still convenient ;).

Can anyone here confirm for me that the Soundtrack for the fireworks is still played on one of the Resort TV channels?

We're considering booking here just for the night for the 4th of July, and would love to watch the fireworks from the room to avoid the crowd craziness!

TIA:)

I have never found the Wishes soundtrack on the in-room TV at the GF, the only resort I've read about this was CR, I think. With the advent of regular commercial TV at WDW, I have understood there are no more "resort TV" channels.

If anyone else has better info on this, please post.

We're staying 1 night for the 4th as well. Unless something is different this year, Wishes is replaced by a patriotic fireworks show on the 3rd and 4th.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. My vacation actually got much better. I sent WDW a complaint about my problems and had a couple of superstar managers that really made me feel much better. They offered several things to me, that I turned down, but their concern made me feel much better. Below is the note I sent to WDW about the contact....

To whom it may concern,

I just wanted to thank you so much for your attention in the manner of my complaint of The Grand Floridian. I was contacted by two managers this past Monday.

I did not catch the female manager's name, but I believe the male manager was named T.J.. They were both wonderful! They were very considerate in listening to me and did their absolute best to resolve my concerns. They offered to move our room, provide transportation and even gave us access to the concierge level. We were so busy we did not use the lounge but it was nice that it was offered. While I'm sure some of my complaints seemed petty, both managers made me feel as though my complaints were important and well founded. They made me feel that they were genuinely concerned about making things right. This is what creates guests that are devoted to Disney resorts!

I must admit at the beginning of our vacation I was disillusioned in the Walt Disney Company and the customer service that has brought me back year after year. Thankfully though, T.J. and the other manager, restored my belief in the Disney Company's service that brings me back year after year.

Thank you SO much for caring about my family's experience to Walt Disney World. We returned home today and started talking about our next visit!

While I will probably go back to the Contemporary next visit, you can't beat the conscience of everything being in one building, I no longer hate the Grand and would consider staying again if I couldn't get into the Contemporary.

Glad to hear things turned around! Happy planning for your next trip. By the way I'm a cr fan as well, but now have converted to BLT. It is amazing!

Glad you had a great resolution! I have a gf who completed an internship at Disney and talked about how the resort managers like to "steal" (aka wooooo) long-time guests of other resorts. She likened it to pledging a legacy of another sorority for bragging rights.

I have experienced problems in the past at the GF. However, because of what the CMs did to rectify the situation, we always go back.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed the rest of your vacation!
