The Frump Takes Over the World: Food Edition! A DR with Extra Magic! Update- 11/14

That picture of Eeyore is brilliant.

So with Sarah on the new Dumbo. It is AWESOME!

I need to try out Columbia Harbour House! It seems like they have better QS options than most places.

I have heard SO many mixed reviews for San Angel Inn. Sadly, we won’t have time to fit it in during our August trip, but next time I HAVE to try it out!

“We just tell them not to bother with the other two breads because let's face it, they are the ugly stepsisters to the Cinderella charm of the Pretzel Bread's delightfulness.”
That sentence is perfect.

YOUR ADRS ARE PERFECT FOR THE UPCOMING TRIP. I am jealous of the awesomeness.

Well those pins are really cool.

To come to think of it, I WAS IN MK THIS NIGHT!!!

Yay for updates! All that food looks just glorious. YUMMMMM!
Can't believe it's 5 days til Disney & we're both leaving on the same day! YAY DISNEY COUNTDOWNS!
I'm sure you will, but have to throw in the obligatory HAVE SO MUCH FUN!
If ya see me around make sure to throw out a hello!

I'm even more excited for the Disney food to come because of all these pictures!! :cool1:

I AM SO EXCITED!

I will and likewise! YAY DISNEY FOOD.

Hahaha it was all Sarah.

Yes! Definitely some unique and yummy options.

Same here, but our experience was wonderful! Maybe we were just there on a really good night, but I am so excited to go back nonetheless.

Hahahah why thank you. *curtsies

I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THE AWESOMENESS.

Right!? It was a good haul.

Were you really!? WHY did I not see you at all??? :confused3

Just got caught up! For starters, I love the artsy pic of you and Haunted Mansion. Also, the salmon at CHH is one of my favorite CS dishes. It's nice to have a non-salad option that's healthy and tasty. :thumbsup2

As for San Angel Inn, I'd definitely be willing to go back there. I ate there for lunch literally the day before you, and I remember loving the Acapulco-style shrimp cocktail. The natilla de cajeta wasn't a hit for me, since I wasn't expecting it to taste so 'goaty' - however, my taste buds have gotten more used to goat's milk-based foods since then, so I'd honestly give it another chance. The other reviews I've read of it have all been good. :)

Also, great shots from IllumiNations, and that last Castle shot is gorgeous. :goodvibes

Hi there Kristen! I'm honored that I made an appearance in your instragram life!! Em showed me the photo you posted of us last summer! You're so adorable! ::yes::

That HM bow is the perfect accessory. I'm sure Madame Leota was jealous!

Loved the matching mom/daughter dresses. I think Em put an end to matching dresses at age 5... however, borrowing clothing is apparently allowed as I sometimes find articles of my clothing in her room. You need to have a talk with that girl!! :lmao:

We’ll be trying CHH in August – first time – yay! I want that apple pie/tart thing but your comment makes me think that may be a mistake. I do learn lessons the hard way so this may be no different. ;)

Because of your great influence I booked SAI for lunch in August as well. If the food is as good as it looks in your photos then I can see where this may be a new favorite.

Your Illuminations fireworks photos are awesome!

I’m pretty sure those handsome Italian waiters had very little influence in your VN pick for your upcoming trip!

And last but not least HAVE AN AWESOME TRIP!!!

Hopefully I'll see you in June at DL and if not we are at WDW for 2 weeks in August.

I am seriously considering the deluxe dining plan for my upcoming visit. It'll make the picking and choosing of ADR's a little easier; there's SO much I want to eat!

I watched Jess's Disney Frump youtube videos awhile back. I have got to tell you, you remind me SO much of my little sister. It's almost uncanny!

Have a great time on your vacation; be safe!:)

Oh why thank you! Yes, I completely agree. Especially in that summer heat, I like a lighter CS meal.

Ah yes! The shrimp cocktail has been shortlisted for my visit in August because of your rave review. My parents and I found the flavor of the natilla de cajeta to be unique and nice, but I can see how it could be surprising and not for everyone. I definitely recommend the Crema Bavaria to you as something different then. Delicious!

Thank you very much!

Have fun on your trip! Excited for instagram updates!

Thank you! There will be lots!

Oh yay! I hope I run into you all again!

Oh she totally was. I love that bow!

I really am five years old on the inside, so I guess that's why I don't mind. I'm the same way with my mom though. I borrow her clothes and shoes and she borrows my jewelry and belts and such. It was actually my idea for us to match...we just have a relationship that is so uncharacteristic of normal mom-teen circumstances. :goodvibes

The apple pie was pretty good...it would have been better warm, and I like my apples to be less mushy in desserts. I like the contrasting texture. I've heard other people who have said that they loved it, so perhaps it's just me!

Oh wow, really? I hope you love it there just as much as we did! I'm so thrilled that you booked an ADR because of my review! I feel so honored that you all value my thoughts and opinion. Hope I didn't steer ya wrong! :thumbsup2

Thank you so much!

Oh, none at all. ;) Tehehe those waiters are just too gorgeous. I'm actual very Italian, so it's all friends there. :rolleyes1

Thank you! I can hardly wait!! :yay:

Oh yes I hope to see you in Disneyland as well! And if not, I will be in WDW for the better part of August as well, so I'm sure I'll see you! YAY! :woohoo:

Ah yes, we're doing the DxDP for the first time for a few nights in August! I can't wait! There is so much good food to enjoy, I agree.

That's too funny! I hope you enjoyed them!

Thank you! I will! :thumbsup2

Yum, I never really thought much about San Angel Inn because I remember reading not-so-good reviews in the past. However, your review (along with Jess's and Alicia's) really makes me want to give it a go! It seems like it'd be such a respite too in the summer heat.

Aww, how cute that Sarah got Frump Jr. ears!

Hope you have a fabulous trip with your friends especially in celebration of all the craziness you've had to deal with lately!

Can I ask a quick question please :)? I notice that you, your mom and sister all have Vera Bradley backpacks. Do you find that they work well for you in the parks? I think my trusty LL Bean backpack is about to retire after 10 years of many WDW trips :worried:. Thanks :thumbsup2

That's what everybody says. I really had such a great experience there, though. It is a really great relief from the heat!

She wants to follow in Jess' and my footsteps. :goodvibes

Yes they do! They're machine washable so you don't have to worry about them getting dirty, and they fit all of my stuff. It's great!

Your family is too cute! I'll have to try watching wishes from Swiss Tree House next time, were there a lot of people?
Ah! I'm almost as excited about your trips as if it were my trip. I can't wait to hear your perspective on Disneyland, also. Have fun and get fat :thumbsup2

Chapter 8: Blue Tongues and Hollywood Happenings

August 18th, 2012

Hello all! So it turns out that my morning is free (and I'm procrastinating on packing) so I thought I'd throw in one last update for you all! Also, I thought I'd remind all of you social networkers to follow me on Twitter (@disney_frump), Instagram (disney_frump) and Vine (search my first and last name--> you can either PM me for that or find it on both my Twitter and Instagram profiles.) for constant live updates from WDW! Thank you all so much again for being such loyal readers! Onto the update!

------------------------------------------------------------------------

This morning, Mom and Sarah were really tired, so Scott and I headed off to DHS without them.

dsc00501sr.jpg

It was a cloudy morning and cooler than usual for August, which was really nice! It wasn't cold or anything by any means, (although where I'm from, cold is 40 degrees or lower) but it was easy to be outside without melting into a puddle of sweat.

We went to get Toy Story Mania Fastpasses, and the CM gave us two more for when Mom and Sarah came later! Hooray!

dsc00503cc.jpg

We decided to do some single rider of Rock N' Roller Coaster, and then we hit up the Tower of Terror!

dsc00504xa.jpg

After that, I did some shopping and Scott was very patient. I love the light fixtures in the Carthay Circle store:

dsc00512el.jpg

The actual crowbar from Home Alone in the Planet Hollywood store:
dsc00514pg.jpg

So awesome.

I bought myself a DHS shirt that I'd been eyeing for quite some time. After that, we met up with Mom and Sarah at the entrance and it was essentially lunchtime (we're early lunchers) so we headed to the ABC Commissary.

Slight Commissary tangent.

I LOVE Commissary Lane. I love everything about it. The music, the colors, the palm trees lining the street...it's just perfect. And I love the ABC Commissary. Some of my earliest Disney memories are of me eating there. I've just always associated it with happy times. I hadn't been there in quite some time, and we were ready to discover a great, indoor, DHS CS. And we did!

Scott went with the Asian Salad with chicken, which he was surprised at! He thought it was quite fresh and good.

dsc00525rm.jpg

Sarah went with the Fried Fish basket. She loves herself some fish and chips. She loved this!

dsc00527lg.jpg

Mom and I decided that we could have a burger since it wasn't hot out. We decided to go ALL OUT. Go big or go home, am I right?

dsc00528bk.jpg

Yes, that is fried shrimp on top of the burger. So fantastic. This was a REALLY good burger, and we have high burger standards. Lettuce, tomato, the works, and the fries were quite good as well! Not flimsy or cold or anything.

dsc00529uf.jpg

Yummo.

For dessert, we all had the chocolate mousse. I don't think anyone ate very much of it. It was your typical CS mousse. Just meh. It's got nothing on the chocolate mousse from Les Halles.

dsc00523ra.jpg

Eeyore took a nap while we ate lunch.

dsc00530xt.jpg

Overall, this ended being a surprisingly good lunch, and it would be a great escape from the heat as well! We are planning on going back here in August during the part of the trip that we are not doing a dining plan, so we can just get entrees.

After lunch, it was Toy Story Mania time!

dsc00534yq.jpg

I love the Periwinkle crayon.

We explored DHS some more, and I believe Sarah and Scott did ToT and RnRC themselves, but it wasn't long before Sarah needed a Blue Disney Slush and Mom, Scott and I were in desperate need of Iced Lattes. To the Writer's Stop!

dsc00539oa.jpg

So good! I love everything about the Writer's Stop. It's perfect.

Of course, this meant a blue tongue for Frump Jr.

dsc00544v.jpg

Later on in the afternoon, we watched the Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun parade from the steps of The Hat, so of course we needed more snacks!

Sarah went with her all time favorite Disney treat, the classic Mickey Bar.

dsc00546ux.jpg

dsc00547n.jpg

Nom nom nom.

dsc00548som.jpg

Mom, Scott and I decided to share a couple of churros.

dsc00550po.jpg

Scott had never heard of these before (weird, right?) so he had to be introduced. He thought they were quite good! It was a nice thing to munch on during the parade.

After the parade, we did a 180º (physically, not figuratively...no one dyed their hair blue, got a lip piercing or started listening to dubstep) and headed for the Great Movie Ride!

dscn1836v.jpg

I am SO glad that we have this family picture. We don't even have one of all four of us in front of THE CASTLE on this trip, but we sure do in front of the REAL DHS ICON. It makes me really happy. We know what's up.

I don't hate The Hat, I really don't. I just don't see why it was necessary. I'm just conflicted. It's whimsical and very Disney and I love it for those reasons, but the Chinese Theater is just so much more authentic, despite what The Mandarin says.

Anyway, enough of my ranting.

The line wasn't long per se, but it was long enough that I had time to appreciate how gorgeous the whole theater is, inside and out. And of course, to take a picture with the best carousel horse to ever exist:

dscn1839i.jpg

Julie Andrews sat on that horse. And it looks really quite happy about that.

We thoroughly enjoyed our cheesy and fabulous journey into the movies, and after that it was time to be heading out. We had a very incredible dinner to go experience! Stay tuned for that!

Thank you all YET AGAIN for being so loyal and awesome, and don't forget to follow along live via the social media! Peace out y'all!

:hippie:

Your family is too cute! I'll have to try watching wishes from Swiss Tree House next time, were there a lot of people?
Ah! I'm almost as excited about your trips as if it were my trip. I can't wait to hear your perspective on Disneyland, also. Have fun and get fat :thumbsup2

Thank you! There were certainly people with the same idea, but not so many that we didn't have our own spot. I can't wait to revisit Disneyland and then tell you all about it! It has been far too long!

Hi Kristen! All caught up. Gorgeous photos as always. I can't believe it was your first time at San Angel. I love the food and the atmosphere. The berry pudding from Sunshine Seasons looks sooo good. I'll have to try that next time.

SO excited for you for your upcomming trip.:banana: I will be following you live on Instagram (amanditabonita). Love those nails by the way, especially the Tangled flower and Meeko. Have a great Frump reunion. -Amanda

First of all, congrats on all of your accomplishments and exciting things - graduation, prom, and the upcoming Disney trips!! And I hope you're feeling better soon from the wisdom teeth. I know it was pretty bad when I got mine out. But Disney will make it better!

You have some great pictures in the Magic Kingdom. The colors are so bright and vivid, it's beautiful! We also ate at San Angel Inn recently. Like you I wasn't sure because of mixed reviews, but we loved it! I had the same thing as you, the traditional dinner, and it was so good. The appetizer was out of this world good! And it looks like Germany gives you a very good view of Illuminations!

I haven't tried Le Cellier yet. It looks good but the price scares me off! I was hoping to do it when the lunch was cheaper but now that it's the same as the dinner menu I'm going to have to save it for a special occasion.

Awesome that you got to meet Tiana and Naveen! I have always wanted to meet them but they haven't been out! Love them :)

Have fun on your next trip!

It's so strange that it seems so many people seem to dislike ABC Commissary, but I'm not sure why. I did like the burgers there better a few years ago (like 2009), and actually didn't like them here the last couple trips (maybe just timing?). But I had one a month ago and it was really good, so I totally agree with your assessment. Plus a good amount of seating.

Wow, that is one seriously blue tongue. :rotfl:

"REAL DHS ICON"... Oh hell yeah. I wholeheartedly agree. :thumbsup2

Have yourself a wonderful and safe trip!

Thank you so much! I'm actually feeling much better! I have to get my stitches out tomorrow and continue with the salt water rinses (and no Listerine) for another week, and then I'll be completely back to normal!

Thank you so very much! I'm so glad you loved it too! It needs to get its good name back! And yes it does!

I haven't tried Le Cellier yet. It looks good but the price scares me off! I was hoping to do it when the lunch was cheaper but now that it's the same as the dinner menu I'm going to have to save it for a special occasion.

It is quite pricey, so a special occasion is a good idea. We could never afford it without the DDP.

I was SO excited!

Thank you! :)

Yes, definitely. I think it is one of the better options as far as DHS CS goes.

I know right!? Haha.

Hahaha yep...it's such a controversial topic.

Thank you! :)
