Gluten free treats......

DS sailed GF on the Magic in April. No problem getting him GF burgers pizza fries etc delivered to the club for lunch so long as we preorder the night before.
He loved the GF donuts at breakfast.

DS15 will be happy to hear that the Magic has GF doughnuts now! Last summer, he had GF doughnuts on the Fantasy and he wondered why the Magic and Wonder never had them. I'm glad to hear that they are adding more GF items to the Magic!

Looking forward to more updates. We are cruising on the Wonder in September. We are doing the PC cruise. DD 10 has celiac disease. This will be our first cruise since her diagnosis.

We sailed on the Magic with DD7 in 2011. She and I had just been diagnosed. Your DD will be well taken care of on the ship! They know how rare it is for us to even have options, let alone finding food that isn't cross-contaminated, that they go out of their way to impress us with all of the GF goodies they have on board. The servers would be grinning ear to ear when they placed a bread basket on the table each night. I was shocked! Warm bread with dinner - what a treat!

I suggest that if you plan to spend time by the pool, that you get to know the head server on the pool deck. Once he knew that DD had Celiac, he made sure that Topsiders and the Quick Serve by the pool had GF hot dog buns ready for her every day. He would see us having fruit and cheese for breakfast and bring us a tray of muffins, donuts, etc... without our even having to ask! He asked if DD would like pancakes the next morning! As soon as he would see us on deck, he'd tell them to get the batter ready. Pancakes poolside! Awesome. He also sent us a cheese and cracker tray to our room as a surprise "magical moment". Oh, and the GF chicken tenders are really good. Chef Mickey made them every night for DD once he knew she liked them so much.

We are going on the Fantasy in August and I will update with anything new that I learn on board.

Yes, but they are free on the ship. I wouldn't spend the money to order them.

By stockpiling them (as you mentioned in your previous post), you increase the likelihood that they will run out mid cruise. It is saddening to think that my child and other people with legitimate medical needs would not have access to GF food for the duration of their entire cruise because you wanted DCL to provide you with snacks to eat at home. They only carry so much onboard. Hopefully we aren't ever on the same cruise....

Good to know, thanks!

Sounds awesome! DD sure would love those muffins, especially if they are Udi's brand! She had those at WDW and loved them. I won't buy them for her at home because they are a treat and I also bake from scratch. If they are the same GF chicken tenders they have in WDW, she will be thrilled. She never liked chicken fingers before and now she does.

But, they are not free for off the ship.

Well said. Thank you.

So should all of us that have GF family members do this then? I never thought of stockpiling snacks from DCL just so I wouldn't have to pay for them for my DD once we get home. I had always thought of food onboard as just that, food for ONboard! :confused3

1. I doubt they run out of Gluten Free Cookies.

2. If you want to talk of important medical conditions, my daughters tree nut allergy is much more dangerous than a gluten allergy. Nuts can kill, Gluten can cause pain.

3. I am not talking about taking hundreds of cookies with me. Probably 10 or 15.

4. I allow my kids 1 cookie at night with milk on the cruise. Even with us taking 10 or 15 cookies, we probably consume much less than most families. Most families seems to eat non-stop during the cruise (and usually the junky food, not the better stuff.

I beg to differ. By the time I was diagnosed I was in the hospital with organ failure because I was dying from malnutrition since my intestines could no longer absorb any nutrients. It is QUITE obvious that your biased opinion coupled with your perception of right and wrong has caused you to lash out without thinking.

Now. [ahem]. Any allergy where anaphylaxis is the primary symptom is nothing to joke about. Do what you have to do to keep your child safe. But please, set a good example for him/her at the same time. While your back-peddling indicates that your intentions seem reasonable, your initial statement on the matter showed you as stingy, greedy and frugal (and I'm being nice here.)

Gluten can cause pain.

Do your research. Gluten to a Celiac causes more than pain. It may not be as immediate as exposure to a tree nut for someone allergic but it is not just a disease of discomfort.

There have been a number of reports on here of them running out of gluten-free cookies so for you to say you don't think it can happen is again just you making statements without the benefit of actual facts.

You're gonna do what you want to do and no pointing out of what the right thing to do is going to change you. I just hope for all the Celiacs and individuals with a gluten allergy, they aren't cursed with sailing with you. If others are enjoying their cruise by enjoying meals and snacks while onboard, that's their choice. But the key difference between what they are doing and what you are doing is that what they are enjoying is usually available in great quantity. What you are hoarding is available in limited quantity for the people who have notified DCL in advance that they will be sailing with this condition/allergy. And if any Celiac is sailing on the Oct 20 sailing of the Magic and they run out of cookies, see me. I had a totally different reaction to the information that they were available online. I'm going to buy a bag (now maybe more than one) for my friend who is sailing with us so I'm sure she'll be able to have a treat every night too.

You clearly know absolutely NOTHING about celiac disease!

just reading over this thread and feeling compelled to chime in that even though (or in addition to the fact that) DCL is awesome in the special diets department, CMs are human and not all of them in all areas of the ship do actually understand some of the intricacies of diets and allergies. just a reminder to be pleasantly vigilant and moderate perhaps the expectations on board - at least that is my 0.02 after researching and cruising as a vegan. there is ALOT out there, but YMMV :thumbsup2

Not even just celiac disease! Her daughter has a severe tree nut allergy yet seems to be completely uneducated about how dangerous ALL food allergies are. But a lot of people seem to only think that nut allergies can kill.

I am allergic to wheat. Severely allergic. I haven't gone into anaphylactic shock from it (like I have with peanuts, tree nuts, eggs and shellfish) but I have had a severe reaction with full body hives and wheezing (luckily Benadryl and prednisone helped it). So yes....gluten can kill.

I am allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, shellfish, wheat, soy, dairy, oats, coconut, sesame, sunflower seeds, broccoli, ginger, and honey. While we know that peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, and shellfish all send me into anaphylactic shock every single other allergy has the same potential to cause anaphylaxis with any trace of the food.

So PP, if you want people to be considerate to you and your daughter about food allergies and other dietary conditions, you might want to learn to be considerate to others as well.

Dole whips. Wine.. Mickey Bars life is good

On the wonder I had my own chef who made me great and wonderful things. On the Dream, I have a head server that watches out for me..
Since when do they have Dole Whip on DCL?

Our table mates were gluten free and had an amazing birthday cake made for their DS. It was really good, they were kind enough to share with us :thumbsup2

I want to do that for my DD. She is turning 11 on our upcoming cruise. Now, I need to find out how to order it.

Please educate yourself before making such statements. My aunt died from complications due to Celiac Disease & I myself was hospitalized for 5 days due to accidentally ingesting wheat just a few months ago.
