ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: September 2012

We just got back from our first trip to Disney World and our first stay at the Poly. Wow! We all LOVED the resort. Thank you all so much for all of the information. We had TPV rooms on the third floor of Tahiti and the location was perfect. It rained pretty much our entire trip so we really couldn't take advantage of the pools much, but we still had a fabulous time. Can't wait to go back!

Glad you enjoyed!!

I want to request a location. What would bw an ideal building for 2 kids ages 8 and 7? We would want to be in central location to the big pool, and main building.
Thanks.

We got a standard view. Ok so based on what you all are saying, I am going to request a 1st or 3rd floor house not facing the monorail central to pool and main house.

The Poly isn't that spread out, IMO, so it doesn't take that long to get around the resort. But with that said, we stayed in Samoa and loved the location. We found it very convenient as it was just steps from the GCH, volcano pool, the beach, and Captain Cooks. I do agree with the pp to state what you want to be near rather than just a longhouse as the CM won't know why you want that particular longhouse if that is your only request. Our requests were Samoa, first floor, facing volcano pool (in that order) and the first 2 requests were met, with the 3rd being met if we wanted to change rooms the next day. Sometimes requests just can't be met for whatever reason(s), but the CM will do everything he/she can to accommodate you ;).

Glad you had a great time and loved the Poly :goodvibes. The Poly is our favorite resort and we can't wait to get back there in December.

This!!:thumbsup2 My girls LOVED the Neverland Club. We were so nervous the first time but everything went smooth. My youngest DD is high functioning autistic and has several food allergies and they were fabulous with her. They loved it so much, they wanted us to leave when we came to pick them up so they could stay longer. They begged us to go back so we cancelled our family dinner ressie for two nights later and rebooked the kids club for them and a second date nite for me and DH. They were crazy excited to get two nites of the Neverland Club that trip.

We do the same monorail to GF for dinner and then walk back to Poly. Also know that if there is some emergency and you need to get back quickly to the Poly, let a CM know and they will send a golf cart to take you back quickly. I have never personally needed it but have read on here a few times where the GF CMs came thru quickly with help when a child became ill back at the Poly.
We just got back from our Poly stay and used the Neverland Club for three hours. We have DS, six and a DD, five. When I picked them up, both immediately asked if they could go back another night. My DD did a lot of crafts. My DS loves video games so he spent most of his time doing that. They watched Disney movies and had a scavenger hunt. And sent he kids home with goodie bags. It really seemed very organized and the staff were very professional and had great rapport with kids. The staff varied in age which made me feel more comfortable.

Got back yesterday from a great trip!! Today it is back to "real life". We had a great trip!!!! The Poly was fantastic and the Hawaii and the club staff was great too. Wish the weather had been a bit better but we took advantage of any sunshine we could and didn't let the rain get to us! Yesterday I was happy to be home - but today I would much rather be at the Poly. Not sure when our next Disney vacation will be and since I want to avoid any major construction, I don't know if it will be at the Poly. A little sad about those two things!

Good Morning Everyone!!! Check out that ticker below.....it's creeping slowly but surely :rotfl:

Making a couple of extra breakfast ADR's and wondered about what others have done? Thinking about the last day heading over to either The Wave or The Grand Floridian Cafe for breakfast before MK opening? Good idea or Bad idea?

I do have the Kona already booked during the week for breakfast, but could possibly add it again!!

GM I am thinking the same as you about either the Wave or GF Cafe our last morning before heading over to MK. I would love to do CRT or CP but were not doing the DP this trip so I think they are out of our budget

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about Iphones :(

But if you will be taking pics of merchandise anyway, if you see the trading pins that are specific to the Poly, I'd love to see what they look like! I like to collect a pin from each resort I stay at, and unfortunately what I've seen online, I haven't been too impressed with. I'm not sure if they are the "current" ones, or not. :)

Enjoy the rest of your trip!

I'm sorry I didn't get a picture of the Poly pin...yep, there was only one! It was of Mickey and Minnie in hula gear and had the word Polynesian in the middle. $9.95 I believe. :)

Thanks! I think I know the one you're talking about. :)

I'm just glad to hear that it is not all Lilo and Stitch ones!

Even a description of what is there would be awesome! I'm trying to plan for souvenirs and the list is getting longgggggg.

I had my dh take pics of the resort specific clothing on his iphone, but I just realized as I was thinking of uploading them, that he left this morning for a quick business trip  He (and his phone) will be back tomorrow night, so I'll try and get them posted by Wednesday!

Raratonga and Niue opened on Friday. We walked through Niue and I LOVE the look of the new hallways and I was one who was a little skeptical when I heard of the room refurbs. SO much brighter! :)

I'm hoping they don't change the GCH too much, but I hope they at least replace the carpet on the stairs in there...now THAT looks waaaaaaaay past it's prime, yuck!

All in all, we had a GREAT time at the Poly! Just absolutely love it

I completely agree about the stairs. I was wondering how often they have to replace because I was nasty!

We have eaten breakfast at the GFC on our last day a couple of times. It is a nice walk over there early in the morning (or take the monorail if you don't want to walk) and their breakfast is very good.

A LOT more details on the planned DVC buildings posted on Tikiman's website.

I know the first thought from a lot of people will be "I don't want DVC." But when you see how many people do cash stays at Bay Lake Tower for the larger 1 Bedroom Villas and such, it really may not be a bad thing for those who only stay cash and love the Poly.

I am still mixed on the idea. I think it's good in that current DVC owners or people looking to buy into DVC would now be able to stay here if they wanted, or even a family of more than 5 looking to stay in a DVC. I know my DH and I had looked into buying a DVC before but decided not to because we love staying at the Poly. The part I am worried about is the resort feeling crowded. The Poly always has such a great laid back feeling and I am afraid that may not be the case once all the construction is complete. I also wish they were not removing the waterfall from the GCH but I'm guessing that idea is because of the up keep. All in all, it will be interesting to see how everything turns out.

Its been 3 yrs since we were there. This year we are staying in the Hawaiian club level. We normally stay in the log house closest to the TTC but with a special pin code :goodvibes we can stay at the Club level.
I am just needing a map picture to get my bearings before we go, and would like some pictures of the garden view rooms in this area.
I remember in 2010 someone had some awesome photos. If someone could direct me to the thread link that would be wonderful. :thanks:

I just finished reading Tikiman's page for DVC plans at Poly. I have to say I'm not thrilled. One thing that we always found so special about Poly is that we feel it doesn't feel like a huge resort with lots of people like some of the other Disney resorts. It's more intimate. Adding all these large buildings will obviously add a whole bunch more people which I'm afraid will take that special feeling right out of the Poly. I'm sad.

Not really sure how I feel about DVC. I am a little concerned about how much more crowded the launches, buses and monorail will be. Getting back to the Poly after EMH is already a nightmare.

I definitely agree in general with the additional GF building and additional Poly buildings the monorails will get hammered.

I am sad too.

The layout of that new pool is bigger then the whole entire resort-ok not really but it seems like it is.

And again, the new pool, will it only be for DVC guests? I mean if I had a room in Tokelau & I looked out into what is now towards Tahiti/Rapi Nui would I be looking at DVCers swimming in their own (huge) pool & will I and my kids have sad faces because I will force them to the quiet pool?

At the same time would that make the main pool less crowded & would they get rid of the quiet pool...jeesh...I love the quiet pool. I spent many mid day breaks in the 80's swimming in there with my cousins & cousins cousins...

Hopefully it doesn't stand out like BLT. I am thinking I am the only one who hates that BLT destroyed the view of the CR.
