Surprised the kids, wife, and my readers w/ a 2 week trip to AoA!(*NEW* 11-7)

Hi Dan! Loved the updates. Looks like the campfire is lots of fun with Chip N Dale! Too bad about the meltdown. We have a little guy in our family who can get himself all worked up, too - especially when he was 4.:goodvibes Thanks for sharing the pics - it reminded me that I want to get that in this July for the kids.

Wow! way to sleep in and still hit Soarin early!:goodvibes Good for Mr. Parker for being brave on the high up ride!:thumbsup2 It is so hard to find a balance between letting them skip things you know will be alright, and making them face the unknown a little so they can discover something fun!

it is a lot of fun, i think you guys would enjoy it...there is a section of these forums that have the schedule of hte movies if you want to look it up.

i was very proud of him for being so brave, since he had seen the simulated version of it on the show in the room all week, it still didnt scare him away.

Just found your trip report and read the whole thing over the last two days. Way too much to comment on but I am really enjoying it. I don't have kids myself and usually go to Disney with all adults so it is really refreshing to read a report that is so different from my usual trip. Oh, and your kids are adorable!

:welcome: glad you are enjoying it, and really hope that the tips and things we experienced help you out on your trip.

how old are your kids?

what hotel are you staying in?

My DS is almost 6 and my DD just made 3. We are staying at POP

awesome, great age.

if you have time walk across the bridge to check out AoA...wearing your bathing suits and walk slow till u see someone going into the pool then sneak in behind them.
:rolleyes1

Chapter 50. Food and Wine here we come.

We were really looking forward to this event on the trip.

we crossed dates with it on a previous trip but for some reason we can not remember we never tried anything on that trip. :confused3

Our first stop was to go into Journey into imagination.
DSC07562_zps80883644.jpg

We made it about half way through the line when he decided that it was not for him, no way no how no talking to get me through it dad...

Okay so we went through the exit in the gift shop to let the kids play in the music area.

he was all about that and jumped from square to square having a blast.

DSC05328_zpse1f9e5f5.jpg

Parker and I then went and made our own figment We named him figgy.
DSC05329_zps67909ca6.jpg

Then it was a stop at one of my personal favorites from growing up. the jumping water streams and water balls.
DSC05330_zps8da97321.jpg

Parker was all about catching the water balls, Noelle was all about poking the rock wall.:upsidedow
DSC05333_zps601baf51.jpg

on the way back through innovations, we stopped at the art store and met Larry Dotson, who we have tallied up 6 of his artworks now, all signed by him in person on a trip.

NOte: when i talked to him last trip in Epcot i said he needed to get a painting of fort wilderness, and he said he didnt find a perfect spot in there yet...I told him to use the boat dock, but looks like he did one of the depot instead...i just found it on the website when i went to link that website.

We talked to him for a little bit and then picked out our prints for this trip.

Noelle and candi went to wait outside for parker and i while we waited to get it signed by him and packed up to be sent back to our resort.

We were so happy to have met him for the 3rd time and get some more prints.

When we ventured outside we found a little girl nodded off in the stroller.

Parker was getting hungry so we stopped to get him some lunch.

If this photo doesnt say dad stop taking pics of me it is just nuggets i dont know what does

DSC05335_zps85a41b43.jpg

After he finished eating we headed off to the food and wine festival center.

We had to pick up our passports at the main desk.
DSC05336_zps9813d503.jpg

It was set up really nice in there, and the first time i have been in there since it used to have the attractions going.

crannium command was one of my personal favorites.
I wonder if i really liked the show that much or if it was because i had a crush on Annie growing up.

if you have never seen the show or it was not around when you started going to disney here is a video of the whole preshow and the show.

annie makes her debut at the 11:40 mark.

at the top of the stairs going into the pavilian.

first thing we picked up our passports...which i did not take a picture of fully until we got home, i will find those and share them later.

one of the demo areas.
DSC05342_zpsf3d88dda.jpg

and a demo area that has the wine pairings.
DSC05343_zps5fd2e5e0.jpg

lots of items for sale in there, some glasses and a beer cozy that i really wanted along with a few other things.

we made our way around toward the back where the Ghirardelli area was, when you walked in you were given a free chocolate sample.

you can also see the covers of the passports in candis hand in the background.
DSC05344_zpsaa08ad8b.jpg

in the back of that room was the super secret entrance for the disney visa card holders.
DSC05345_zpse99ae75a.jpg

now this is not a flattering pic of candi but it shows the free beverage station they had set up.
DSC05346_zps0d494cd0.jpg

there were also private bathrooms in there, and also a area to sit and relax and watch some tv.

also they had a table set up that you could get writsbands for a few different things, one being a special seating area for illuminations or a reserved area for the eat to the beat concert series.

we did not know what show we were going to see for that so we chose the illuminations bands.
DSC05347_zpsee490249.jpg

after we had a few drinks and used the restrooms we headed back out to get our sample on.

not realizing that i should have picked up that beer cozy i wanted there.

but it might make an appearance or mention again later in the report.

on the way to world showcase we spotted the cranberry bog...we took a few pictures but didnt stay around long enough to learn anything about them or how the work.
DSC05348_zps391db3f0.jpg

it was sampling time, and we just crossed into the main event.

DSC05350_zpsd5349bb6.jpg

a quick question that you can answer in a response for me.

What way do you go when you get to the world showcase...for us, we ALWAYS go to the left first, i wonder if it is because mexico is so close and that has a ride is why? i have no idea, but we again went to the left first.

and the first booth we saw was
DSC05351_zpse4965e91.jpg

the terra booth...of course i had to try something.

candi asked me, are you sure, i said absolutely, i havent been saving these snack credits for nothing.

all she said was "okaaayyy"

i went up and ordered the chili.
which is detailed as.
Chili Colorado with House made chips and Cashew Cheese featuring Gardein Beefless Tips.

my thought mmm chili im sold.

my second thought i wonder how chili meet is beefless...ohh well, MMMM CHILI.

and got this.

DSC05352chilicolorado_zps694d059c.jpg

i took a big bite of the "beefless tips" and loved them. then asked if candi wanted a bit she said no, the kids loved the chips.

Writers Note: parker had lunch, noelle will have lunch in the next chapter, and the goal for them was to just have them eat some of our food throughout the sampling the rest of the day...this little tid bit comes into effect for the next day.

I told her i loved it, she said "you know that is vegan. "

me

well, it was good.:scratchin

would i eat it again in a heart beat, i love anything chili.

will i change to vegan no way bud, but i did really like that dish, had i known it was vegan would i still have tried it, more than likely yes. remember i love chili. ( i do host a chili cookoff each year afterall.)

First booth down it was time to continue onward.

right next door was a certain lovable bear that the kids and us were excited to meet.

Love Food & Wine! We always go into World Showcase starting with Mexico. Even if we come in through the International Gateway we skip over United Kingdom and Canada and go to Mexico. We love Larry Dotson as well. We got a third signed print on our last day. We didn't see him in Epcot, but at the Art of Disney store in DTD.

Great Update Dan !! I have never sampled anything as we are always with The groups and I can just imagine how hard it would be to find a booth that had something everyone liked:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
I have to add F&W on my own to my bucket list!!!

Great update, Dan.

Odd that Parker didn't want to do the Figment ride. But I guess all those other "dark' things caught up with him. Hopefully by your next visit he'll be more comfortable with all that.

Love the photo of Candi and Noelle walking into Journey into Imagination...Noelle is just so cute.

Glad you finally got to Food & Wine and started to try the booths. Although your first choice would be one of the last things I would try. :lmao::lmao:

If this photo doesnt say dad stop taking pics of me it is just nuggets i dont know what does

DSC05335_zps85a41b43.jpg

oh yes - I had a good long :rotfl2: over this.

not realizing that i should have picked up that beer cozy i wanted there.

I don't ALWAYS go left but I go towards Mexico more often than not when I am coming from the entrance. In fact I like going down the path by the Odyessy to get out by Mexico.

Good call on Journey Into Imagination with the way Parker was feeling this trip. Will almost came unglued with some of the effects...the stink and the blast of air that hits you towards the end being the worst! He was looking at a map the other day and telling me he wasn't going to ride it again!

I was impressed by the festival center! I wish I'd have taken a few pictures of it. I didn't realize how nice it would be. We got there too late to enjoy the Chase lounge (I really wanted one of those Illuminations wristbands!).

Which way to go in World Showcase? It depends...we've gone to the right a few times (of course, at least one of those was when we had an ADR in Canada), but we do usually go left. We went left both times we were there this trip. I don't know why - this was the first time we'd ever ridden the boat ride in Mexico, and we did it on the way out! :confused3

Looking forward to seeing more of the Food and Wine offerings that I missed...

Love the expression of Parker's face while he is trying to eat his nuggets :rotfl2:

Trent not fond of Figment either. He hates when skunk sprays, that blast of air

Looks like a pretty cool set up inside the place where you get your passports and everything is all set up

can't wait for more :goodvibes

:rolleyes1

Lol!! We actually plan on walking over to AoA the night we arrive. Our flight arrives at 7:30pm. I figured we'd check in, have dinner and walk over to AoA. I want to show DS the cars section

I'm excited to see all of your Food and Wine selections. DH & I are going to try F & W this fall. I'm a little worried though because I have the pallet of a 2 year old. Parker's chicken tenders looked very yummy to me but the chili, not so much. :rotfl: I have a feeling I'll end up with chicken tenders while DH samples around the WS.

As for which way I go around WS, it really depends on what my priorities are that day. For example on the Mother & Daughter trip in November, we started on the Canada side because we wanted Fish & Chips for lunch. On my solo trip a few months ago, I started in Mexico because a Fiesta Margarita was the priority. ::yes::

I told her i loved it, she said "you know that is vegan. "

me

well, it was good.:scratchin

would i eat it again in a heart beat, i love anything chili.

My DH and I were just saying that if someone would cook vegan for us we would eat it. Otherwise - forget about it.

I never tried anything at that booth. Next year.

So no Figment for Parker?

His face while eating just about sums it up.

I think the festival center is so cool. glad you guys got the Illuminations bands!

Parker was all about catching the water balls, Noelle was all about poking the rock wall.:upsidedow

If looks could kill. I didn't even need to read your commentary on this picture -- it was self-evident. :rotfl:

crannium command was one of my personal favorites.

Yes, I fast-forwarded to the 11:40 mark.

in the back of that room was the super secret entrance for the disney visa card holders.

I just saw this on another TR also. Is that available to cardholders all year round? If so, do they have special Illuminations seating all the time?

a quick question that you can answer in a response for me.

What way do you go when you get to the world showcase...for us, we ALWAYS go to the left first, i wonder if it is because mexico is so close and that has a ride is why? i have no idea, but we again went to the left first.

I've done both. Whatever the whim seems to be. :confused3

I told her i loved it, she said "you know that is vegan. "

me

You're a vegan!

Yay for heading back to the parks after some relaxing days pooling! Awesome that Parker enjoyed Soarin! Love that ride!!

Awwe, the first pic of Noelle handing the autograph book over is absolutely adorable! Also, nice monorail shirt!!! I love the play area after Figment! And I will totally admit to me and my Mom playing around there last trip! Baha, we’re all kids!

Yay! Food and Wine, I’ve always wanted to go, but I love early Sept so much and then never had enough money for a return trip by November baha! I’m excited to read along with your adventures! Vegan chili! That sounds interested! Glad it was good!

i think most people go to the left for some reason.

Food & Wine....yummmmmm!!

me too, we are hopping to get back for it sometime, just not sure when
