Sneaking Drinks

Um on our magic cruise in February we sat at a table next to a man who had his bottle of rum on the table as he ordered cokes to go with it from the waiter by the pool, so apparently they don't rally care.

It's not up to the servers to call a guest out on such things. If the guest was being obnoxious, or obviously drinking too much, the head server and/or security would be the ones to handle it.

As the name implies, servers are to serve, not police. DCL wants everyone to enjoy themselves, and so, many times, CMs will "look the other way" as long as those who are flouting the rules behave themselves otherwise.

I'm not sure if "they don't rally care."

It could be that the waiter by the pool neither wanted to lose the gratuity, nor wanted to upset a guest (and risk receiving a complaint).

We carried on more Crown and single servings of wine then we needed. We had two sets of FE cups and had no problem putting drinks in them. Me i started drinking the drink of the day it was only $4.75.

This subject comes up once a week on Dis Boards.

DCL is not counting on revenue from liquor sales. They do very little to promote the sale of drinks. We had most of the time to hale a waiter to get a refill. You need to take Carnival Cruise then you will understand.

I don't do these thing either but my humility keeps me from bragging about it. I am ver humble. In fact, I am the most humble person I know. I once won an award for my humility.....but when I went down to accept the award they rescinded it.

Seriously, I not do most of these things....but I admit texting and driving....occasionally take a long lunch but often don't take a lunch so that is a wash. Don't itemize so don't fudge. If I ever get a moving violation it will be for going too slow.

If people don't follow the rules, I don't care. I'm a live and let die person....uh, I mean live and let live....yeah, that's it.

See, I do care if people follow the rules. Rules that are flagrantly and consistently broken are usually met with the rules being changed or made more strict. And, I am tired of having to live with more strict rules.

I went to Chico State for college. Back then, it was known as a 'party school'. The craziest part of the year was one special weekend. But, even though this celebration had been going on for years, during the years I was there (I did not participate in the illegal activities) it got out of hand; burning cars, throwing beer bottles at police, etc...... Guess what, the event eventually got permanently cancelled.

So, for those of you who choose to break the 'rules' about alcohol while on a Disney ship, please use discretion. So that, for those of us who choose to follow Disney's guidelines by the book we can, for years to come, enjoy bringing alcohol on board.

Thanks! I learned something today! I honestly didn't know that there was a "no outside food" rule at the parks....I guess from mostly sticking to these boards, and threads about what type snacks to bring for your families, etc. I've never once read it was against the rules!!

It's amazing what a simple google search would've..... Ahh nevermind...

They tried pulling this perk recently and there was such an uproar DCL reinstated the policy within a few days.

Very true, but a good part of the uproar was that there was no advanced noticed.

DCL will reach a point when the problem is worse then taking the perk away

Yes, I was going to say the same thing. The problem was that DCL gave no notice with regard to the rolling coolers and people were caught off guard. I haven't heard any complaints since the initial surprise so don't think it has made that big of a difference. Or admittedly no difference to me as I never brought a rolling cooler on board

Alcohol is permitted on board. However, any fragile items (including alcoholic beverages) must be hand-carried on board in the carry-on of an adult Guest – age 21 or older (dimensions can't exceed 22" wide, 14" high and 9" deep).

Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area.
Guests who arrive in the dining room, including Palo and Remy, with a bottle of champagne or wine will be charged a corking fee of $20.00 per bottle.

Please be advised: Disney Cruise Line reserves the right to remove fragile items (including beverages) from checked luggage. In such cases, items will be stored and returned at the end of the voyage. Beverage containers are considered fragile and have previously caused damage in checked luggage. All fragile items must be transported inside carry-on luggage.

It specifically says "may not be consumed in any lounge or public area". Nowhere does it say "may bring one drink at a time on deck". They ask that you consume the alcohol you bring onboard in your stateroom. Period.

"Give them an inch and they'll take a mile". Seems like the OK to bring it onboard for personal use, in your personal space is being stretched to include carrying it around on deck here.

Yes, I think everyone that has read this thread is now familiar with the policy...
but the reality is that DCL does not enforce it and therefore every time someone posts a question about it we are obligated to tell them the truth...
Or at least I feel obligated to.
Not my place to judge someone else.. or bully them into doing what I want.
I just let people know what to expect when they cruise DCL based on my experience.

I know many people, beside myself, who bring drinks with their own alcohol into public areas and have no problem.This isn't new. It's been going on for many years.

You're preaching to the choir...I'm the one that originally posted about the DLC rules by finding it on Google. I've never had a reason to Google the "Bringing Food into Park" subject, because I was never interested in it. I don't bring snacks or food into the parks, if I'm hungry I buy it in the park, I have no interest in dragging food around in a backpack......Ahhhh never mind

DCL knows that people don't follow the rules but they don't enforce it. Why do they turn a blind eye? I go back to my speeding analogy. Speed limit is set to 65 and people drive 75. Speed limit at 70 and people go 80. The cops all know people are speeding but the don't enforce it. Bring a rolling cooler full of beers to the pool deck and DCL will likely say something. Be discrete and you won't have any problems.

When I read about people 'following the rules to the letter' I wonder how many of them routinely drive 5 or 10 miles over the speed limit becuase "cops usually won't stop you unless you exceed by 10+ mph"?

When at CC I will bring a water bottle with some rum to top off the drinks I buy on the beach. I like my coctails a bit stronger than what you get from the bar. I do this discreetly (some might call that sneaking).

I think this actually boosts DCL's bottom line becuase I wouldn't waste my $7 on a frozen pina colada on the beach that has very little alcohol if I could not 'adjust to my liking'.

If I were to drive 5-10 MPH over the posted speed limit, I certainly wouldn't go on a police department chat forum and advertise it. My comment wasn't about who does it, it was about how people do it and then come here and tell everyone else how it's ok to do it. If you were being "discreet" you wouldn't discuss it at all.

It seems like you are saying you want people to lie about what they are doing or hide it as if it were a dirty secret...
Obviously many cruisers don't view it this way and no matter how many times you scold the offenders the practice will still happen. We just don't view it as the terrible, immoral practice that some of you do
I don't see anyone bragging about it either, just being honest to let the newbies know what the cruise experience is like on DCL...

So many other more important things to worry about on vacation than if that person in the atrium is drinking alcohol that he/she brought on the ship.

Well, "lie about it as if it were a dirty secret" is somewhat dramatic, but I get the point you are trying to make. I certainly don't waste any of my vacation time "worrying" about who drinks what from where. I would just hate to see the DCL policy changed because it people refuse to follow it. And I'm sure if it changes, plenty of people will still sneak their alcohol onboard and come here to tell people how to do it and not get caught.

I haven't gotten all the way through the thread, but the one thing I've seen repeated so far, is that the CM's....bartenders, wait staff, etc, "don't say anything" to people who obviously have their own liquor.

That's because they aren't allowed to.

Very seldom will you see a CM say anything to correct any passenger, unless maybe it's going to cause someone to get hurt.

Now I finished, and I see that a few other people have said the same thing......it's not that they're turning a blind eye....or that they don't care.....like it's been said....the crew and staff won't say anything because they don't want to offend anyone and possibly lose their business. DCL is famous for that.
One of the very few "rules" that they actually enforce is the dress code for men in Palo and Remy.

I'm not 100% sure of what you're trying to say here....but I'll preface this by saying that I'm really not much of a drinker. Sometimes, no matter what cruise line it is, I'll bring a bottle or two of the sparkling wine I like to drink at dinner, but otherwise, I don't drink.

I've been "hounded" by DCL crew to buy the wine package just as much, if not more than, I have on other lines. I can sit at a show on DCL, or by the pool, and tell 6 different servers "No thank you" at least twice each. They want to sell their drinks and get the tips on DCL just as much as the servers do on any other cruise line.


I'm not putting DCL down, and I'm not defending Carnival or any other line....all I'm saying is that after 13 Disney cruises and 8 on other lines, the push to sell drinks is equal.
