7/13/13 ~~ Eastern Mediterranean Mouseketeers!

Hi everyone! Haven't checked in for a while!

Welcome to all the new cruisers. I noticed there are a few more boys my DS's age (13, almost 14 when we cruise). He'll be happy to hear that.

I was a day off for our booking day! I don't know why I thought it was tonight. I signed on yesterday afternoon to double check what we were going to book and saw that I could actually book it then. Fortunately, I was able to get all our excursions. Missed the time I wanted for the couple massage...like someone else mentioned the only times left were at 8:00 AM each morning. Way too early LOL We really have no interest in Palo so I didn't have to worry about that.

We are doing the following:
Villefranche: White River Rafting (boys), Perfumer Appretice(girls)...my DD is too young for the River Rafting
La Spezia: Explore Lucca & Pisa
Civitavecchia: Vatican City, Coliseum, & Catacombs
Athens: Acropolis w/ Youth Activity
Kusadasi: Archaeological Quest & Ephesus
Mykonos: Delos Island
Valletta: Turkish Schooner

I'm also stressing about the dress codes. The girls are easier, capris & sun dresses. It's my DS & DH that are hard. I'm going to check out Old Navy online now for DS. DH is a whiner with the heat....yet this cruise was his idea & he's the one that wants to go to the Vatican. He may just have to suck it up & wear slacks.

He can wear long shorts. We've been twice and have worn long shorts. My oldest son has been 3 times and wore long shorts each time. Just make sure knees are covered.

That being said, you can also find man "capris" at Macy's. They were quite popular with the Italian men when we've visited in the past. Good luck.

Is anyone considering a private taxi, specifically Nikos Loukas, for Athens, Greece? I am debating. His reviews are great, but I'm hesitating. He has sent an info sheet to fill out to hold excursion and it asks for my passport number. Is that number ok to give out?

Congrats on booking all your excursions!

I agree.... boys/men are harder to figure out with the dress codes than women/girls.

I got my boys these at old navy (they were on sale at our old Navy for $15.00 each):

http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=5934&vid=1&pid=256008002

(thanks to the tip about these on sale at Old Navy from drlaurafsu!)

The legs zip off at the knees turning them into shorts, and then zipping the legs part back on if you need to cover the knees. (and these pants have the adjustable waists, which is nice for growing children! :)

My DH will probably get convertible pants like this, too. It's hard to find men's shorts that come below the knees.

I know both REI and Exofficio have light weight convertible pants that are made for hot weather so you don't get too hot (although, they are a bit on the pricey side at these two stores), if your DH is concerned about getting too hot.

Hi All,

Just making a recommendation for packing... we use Packing Cubes, and LOOOOVE them! They make packing SO organized and easy, AND they save so much space.

We use the eBags packing cubes, and each person in our family has their own color for all of their clothes for the entire trip (so it's super easy to know whose clothes are whose when we open up our suitcase).

Also, I have different colors I use for just one-night/one-day parts of our trip (for example, we have a 1-night layover in London-Heathrow) on our way over to Europe, so I will pack our clothes (for all 4 of us) just for that one night in one large packing cube that is a different color. So, that way, we just have to grab that particular color packing cube out of our suitcase when we arrive to London, and we know that is all we need for our 1-night layover in London (and so then we don't have to search through our suitcase trying to find pajamas, clothes for the next day, etc, and everything else in our suitcase stays neat and tidy).

And, you can take the packing cubes and just set them in the dresser drawers of the ship or hotel and you just take things out of the cubes as you need them each day.... it just makes everything so much easier, organized, and saves a ton of space.

They can get expensive if you buy a whole bunch at once, but if you buy just a few at a time (and collect them up over time) it's not too bad.

Here is a link on Amazon.com to the packing cubes (you can also get them on eBags.com... sometimes eBags has a good sale with free shipping that makes them cheaper than Amazon.)

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=packing+cubes

And, here is a link to eBags to show you them here (they will have ALL of their varieties of cubes here... Amazon.com may not have all these options):

http://www.ebags.com/category/trave...es/b/ebags?lastSearchTerm=ebags+packing+cubes

And, you can see from the Amazon.com link there are other brands of cubes, too.... so the eBags cubes are not the only ones. But, we like the eBags because there are so many color choices (so it makes it easier for each person in our family to have their own color, plus, like I said, we can also special colors just for over-night layovers, day trips, etc.)

Anyway, for anyone who is into being really organized, you should look into these! :) I can't imagine traveling without these.... :)

Thanks for the packing tip hint. I've been thinking about them for some time, but have always been turned off by the price. If I just bought one a year, I'd have dozens now! Will start my collection this summer. After all, I'm only turning 50 so I've got years of travelling left...

We booked the 9 day July 5, 2014 Greek cruise next year and there isn't a dismeet yet. I don't think that makes me very happy:( How can I go on a cruise without my disfriends to plan with? I might have to jump ship!

We'll wait and see how we like the greek cruise this year and perhaps we may cancel anyway, or even move to another ship. We'll see.

It certainly does increase my enthusiasm when there are a lot of other people excited and going too!

We did not use the cubes for a long time (and we travel tons), but friends of ours (who also travels a lot) always used them. They kept trying to get us to use them, but, like you, I didn't see why I needed to spend the money on them when I always felt I packed really well and organized! Well, I finally broke down and bought some a while back, and oh my goodness... I realized then how much easier it is to travel with these (and my boys like having their own cubes/colors). Needless to say, I never turned back once I started using cubes, and just slowly bought them as they were on sale, etc. Now, we have enough cubes. :)

Also, it's really easy to pack early (at least what you can pack early). You just pack the clothes you for sure know you won't be wearing at home the week or so before your cruise/trip, and put them in the cubes. Then, I just set the packed cubes in my closet so they are out of the way.... then the day before we leave, I just put all the packed the cubes in our suitcases, and add the things we couldn't pack till last minute, and we're fully packed in like 15-30 minutes. Oh, and the best way to pack the clothes in the cubes is to roll them. If you roll the clothes, you can get more items in one cube, and rolling helps prevent wrinkling and creases.

Also, the cubes have a mesh top, so you can easily see what is inside. I separate all our clothes in their own cubes. For example (for a cruise), I put day clothes (shorts/t-shirts) in just one cube (one cube per person in the family), then I put dinner clothes in it's own cube (nicer clothes we wouldn't wear during the day), then I put swimming gear in it's own cube, and I put pajamas, lounge type clothes, in it's own cube. Then, I put socks and underwear in their own cubes, and then I put workout clothes (for DH and myself) in their own cube (there are all different sizes of cubes that work for different types of clothes you are packing, for example, I use the slim packing cubes for socks and underwear, the medium cubes for shorts/tank tops/t-shirts and workout clothes, and then the large cubes for pants, bigger shirts, long sleeve shirts, etc). So, by separating out the day clothes from the evening clothes, etc. etc., this way, I don't have to dig through the cubes to find a pair of shorts, or a pair of pants for the evening, etc... I just know which cube contains day clothes, evening clothes, workout clothes, etc. It makes things SOOOO easy!

Yah, I love the cruise meets, too! Our first Disney Cruise (4 years ago) I didn't know about the Disboards. But I was sitting at the adult pool, and was just chatting with a woman. And, she made a comment about how she got some really fun gifts through the gift exchange (she was talking about the FE's). I had NO idea what she was talking about, and she was really surprised I didn't know about the Disboards. So, she told me all about them, and literally, as soon as I got home, I looked up the Disboards site, and I've been hooked ever since!

Well, it's still pretty early for the 2014 cruises, so the meet will probably start up sometime soon! It is really fun, though, to know other people on the ship... I feel like I'm always passing someone on a deck in the cruise meet, and saying hi to people all the time. :)

And, the things we learn from these meets is all SO valuable!! I LOVE all the tips, inside info about the cruise/Disney, etc. etc.!!! :thumbsup2

Can anyone who has access please tell me if there is availability left on the "Best of Rome" tour?

I am a first time cruiser and we are wanting to visit the places listed on this DCL excursion. Should we just try now to line up a private tour?

Has anyone had any experience with the following companies?

Romearound
Stefano Rome Tours
Private tour of Rome
Best Limos in Rome

Cost for private tours look to be about 160 euros/person
Cost for DCL tour is $US345

I would love to save the $$$ but do not want to be late back to the port:confused:

I just looked for you, and both the Best of Rome and Best of Rome adult only tours are available. :) Since this is your first cruise, do you book the same time silvers do, or do you have to wait until after silvers?

We are doing a walking private tour in Rome, so I am not familiar with these particular companies (assuming these are private car/driving tours you have listed).

I am sure others here will chime in about those companies (people here might have booked with some of those companies), but I would look on Trip Advisor and read the reviews on all of these companies. See what people are saying.... are they getting back to port on time, are the guides good and worth the money, etc. etc. Do they have mostly 5-star reviews on Trip Advisor? If they have a lot of 1 - 3 star reviews, I'd would not go with a company with lower reviews like that.

Also, with private tours, what I always have done is I keep my eye on my watch just to make sure we are staying on time. I have never had to do this with all the traveling we've done, but I know I can always tell our guide that we want to go back to the ship now (and just end the tour before we've seen everything we had planned), if I feel like the guide is running late and we could be in jeopardy of missing the ship. But, like I said, I've never had to do this.... BUT I know I could do this if I had to. I'm paying for the tour, so I can ask the guide to skip parts of the tour to get us back to the ship on time.

That said, if you do a private tour, if it has high reviews and is recommended, I am sure you will be back to the ship in plenty of time! But, you do have the power to make sure you are back to the ship on time yourself (but if it's a really good company, you won't have to worry about this).... so I think you are fine if you book a private tour. Just do your research on the company!

I am definitely going to check out the packing cubes! Thanks for the tip. Even for our other vacations these will come in handy for switching hotels etc. I can use all the extra organization tips I can get LOL

This is a bit more pricey, BUT for those who do travel a lot, especially internationally where some non-US airlines have luggage weight restrictions that are less than 50 lbs, we also have ultra-light weight luggage.... it's more expensive than just the standard luggage that weighs more, BUT for the amount we travel, it is worth the price as we can pack more in a suitcase because our suitcases themselves weigh so little, which means we can bring more things home that we buy when we are traveling, especially internationally. :) We have a 33" case that only weighs 8 lbs, a 27" case that only weighs 6.6 lbs and then two carry-on size cases (22") that only weigh 4.4 lbs each.

And, they are spinners (so they roll SUPER easy everywhere). It really depends on the kind of traveling you do. If you mostly travel in the USA, then spending money on the ultra light luggage isn't really necessary, but if you do a lot of international travel, it really makes a difference and ends up being worth the money. :)

But, regardless of if you do US travel only or International travel, the Packing Cubes are amazing!!! :) :)

Can you share the brand of the luggage you have? I would be interested in looking at these since I do travel a lot internationally and even at home, the weight restrictions are getting so annoying.

For the packing cubes, I have also debated them over the years but held off due to price. How many would you say you need per person for a trip like this one? I saw the 3 piece set on amazon for just under $25 of the various sizes- but I'm curious how many sets you need per person?

Since this is your first cruise and you can't book until after the silvers, i would definitely book a private tour now. I have a feeling many of the excursions will sell out after the silver date since there will be many people onboard who've done at least 1 disney cruise before. Not many people start out doing a 12 nighter for the first cruise but I admire you for doing so! You can always cancel it if you do get in on the DCL one and want that instead. All of my tours allow you to cancel with no charge until a week or a few days ahead of time.

On another note, has anyone else been curious about the excursion 'myk 22 resort' or something like that on the Mykonos excursions? It didnt have pricing and it said it was sold out when I tried to look at it. I'm curious if this is similar to our St. John Resort day that we have privately arranged.

Luggage:
The luggage we have is called, Antler Liquis Super Lightweight hardside. You can find it many places on the internet, but Bergman Luggage is super easy to work with in terms of returns (if you get it and you aren't happy with the color, size, etc):

http://www.bergmanluggage.com/antlerliquis.html

Also, they "say" the regular retail price $800/$700/$600, but I have YET to see any place that sells it that high. It is always sold for the sale prices you see on this site ($399/$349/$299). I got our for even cheaper because I had a 10% coupon code, so I got 10% off these sale prices. I have also seen some on "closeout" on Amazon.com for really cheap (like a 27" for $179), but with luggage, I don't like buying "closeout" because it's a final sale, and I like the option of being able to send it back if I get it and it's not what I thought it was, etc. Also, the closeout sales, it's hard to get matching colors between the sizes, BUT if you don't care about matching colors, or it being a final sale, the closeout prices are the very best!! :)

I know Samsonite Cosmolite is a good lightweight brand, too (same weight as the Antler Liquis), but the Samsonite is more expensive. The Antler Liquis is a British made brand, and has very good reviews, and very durable! My husband travels internationally for work several times a year, and this luggage has been very durable. :)

One thing to know, though, is the size (22"/27"/33") is measured from the wheels, SO the inside packing space is actually more like, 20", 25", 31". So, the 33" case is the same size inside as a standard 28" case (the heavier kind), if that makes sense.

The only downside about the hardside is there are no outside pockets you can just quickly slip something into if you need. I do miss the outside pockets... but there are so many other "pro's" about this luggage that we are fine not having the outside pockets.

Cubes:
As for the Cubes (how many you need), it's really very individual (ie, depends on if you're naturally a light packer, or if you like to bring a lot of clothes, or how bulky your clothes are, or if they are super lightweight thin clothes (ie, cotton shirts take up more space than thin polyester shirts).

That said, for just me... I have 3 large cubes, 3 medium cubes and 3 slim cubes. But, I only pack for about 6 - 7 days, and I do laundry if we're on a trip for longer than 7 days. I put all my dresses/skirts/pants in one large cube, ALL of my workout gear in one large cube (shorts, tops, socks, sports bras), I bring cooler weather clothes (for colder evenings) and put those outfits in a large cube (I usually just bring like 2 or 3 cooler weather sets of clothes if we are going to a warmer destination for evenings, or just in case the weather ends up being unusually cool) I put all my tanktops/tops a medium cube, shorts in a medium cube, all my swim gear (swim suits, cover ups, saraongs, anything having to do with water/pools/beach) in a medium cube. Then, I use the slim cubes for all my undergarments and PJs, etc. I usually don't even fill the cubes to the max (there is always space left in each cube, but that is nice so if I buy anything on our trip, I know I have space to pack those items).

I also have 3 large cubes that are a different color for our overnight layovers for our entire family (4 of us), that I pack just for those nights/days, and I put outfits/clothes for all 4 of us in one large cube (I can fit 4 outfits total for all 4 of us in one large cube). So, we just pull that colored cube out for the overnight layovers. I also will re-pack those different colored cubes throughout our trip (ie, I don't pack for ALL of our over-night layovers before we leave initially). Once we've finished an overnight layover somewhere, I then re-pack that different colored cube for our next overnight layover, or 2-day stop somewhere. Or, if we have a long day trips planned, I'll pack our outfits plus everything we will need just for those long daytrips in the different colored cubes so the morning of the day trip, we don't have to spend anytime thinking about what to bring, or do we have everything.... the cubes also fit inside a backpack, so you can also just slip a cube in a backpack and bring it with you on a daytrip (if you think you might need to layer your clothes), but I usually don't bring the cube on the day trips.

My DH and kids have the same amount of cubes as I do (but we all have our own color).... we don't always use ALL of the cubes on each trip we go on... it just depends, but for the longer trips, we do use all of the cubes. For a 7-day trip, we use half of the cubes I mentioned above.

It's really just an experimental process... and it's really individual. Some people like only large cubes. Some like just the slim and mediums... some people like getting mostly mediums and not many large or slims... it just really depends on what you like to pack. :)

If you get them on eBags, they do free returns, if you get them and once you see them, you realize the size you got isn't as practical for you, so you can send them back and get a different size. Amazon might do free returns, but sometimes they want you to pay for shipping for returns. you'd have to look into that.

One other thing to think about with the cubes is your luggage. Some people like just Medium sized cubes because a bunch of medium cubes fits better in their luggage than the large cubes (for example, the medium and slim cubes fit way better in a roller-sized carry-on bag, than the large cubes). So, what works well for one person may not work well for another... there are a lot of factors to figure out.

One thing you can do is go to a luggage store that carry's the cubes, and go and look at them in person... see how big they are, etc., and that will help you decide better what sizes you need and how many and then order them online (unless the luggage store sells them cheaper than online, but normally, you can get them online cheaper than the luggage store).

We love Ebags packing cubes too. Google coupons for it, because they often have 20-30% off codes and sometimes free shipping available. We've been using them about 7 years now and woudn't travel without them. The 4 of us each have our own color in multiple sizes. We have a few other colors we use for pre-cruise stays and post-cruise stays. We also have their shoe bags, bathroom/toiletry bags and padded bags for electronics. When we get to our destination, we love just opening our suitcases and putting the cubes directly in drawers on the ship or hotel. It's great that we don't have to rifle through our entire suitcase if we want something specific--we know exactly what cube they are in. We primarily use the medium bags for shirts and shorts. We use the large bags for pants and sweaters/hoodies. We use the small bags for socks and underwear. If you roll small items, you can fit a ton in them. If we do laundry on trips, we put the clean clothes right back in their specific cubes so when we get home, we just open them up and put all the socks in sock drawers, etc. without having to sort. My favorite thing is that if one of our suitcases ends up being over the 50 lb limit athe airport, we can easily take a bag out and stuff it in another lighter bag without having to worry people are looking at our underwear, etc. while our bags are wide open. I also like that if our bags are opened by security/TSA they don't seem to make a mess searching around like they did when we didn't have the cubes. We sailed with friends in December, and my friend got frustrated that her kids would take out all of their clothes out of their cases constantly to find whatever they were looking for each day. She said she had to refold them constantly. After I told her about the cubes, they purchased some of their own for their next trip.

Ditto everything you wrote!! Yes, I forgot about the airport part!! That is SO nice if you have to quickly move some items from one suitcase to another, you just grab a cube out and put it in another bag, rather than having to sift through all your clothes in front of everyone trying to figure out what to transfer to the other bag.

Also, if you carry on the roller 22" carry-on luggage and for any reason security wants to look inside your suitcase, it makes it super easy, and again, your clothes and everything inside your suitcase isn't just openly visible for everyone around you to look at. :)

(And, along the suitcase weight thing, we now carry a small luggage travel scale with us, so we can weigh our luggage in the hotel room (or ship) before we have to fly, so that way we know if our suitcases are under the weight limit. A small travel scale is definitely worth the investment.... saves a lot of time and hassle at the airport, and possibly will save you money in case your luggage is just overweight and you don't have any way to make it weigh less at the airport).

I agree about the kids sifting through the bags (AND the husband.... :lmao:). Before we used eBags Cubes, we'd get to our destination, and the kids would just start sifting through the suitcases to find certain things (swim trunks, or whatever), and then everything would be out of order. Or, sometimes things just shift when you are flying, and you get to your destination, and clothes are scrunched into one corner, all wrinkled or whatever... and the Cubes keep that from happening totally. :)

Anyway, they definitely add up in price, but soooo worth the investment if you travel a lot! I especially love just having all the different colors... my boys are very close in size (they are only 1 1/2 years apart in age - I get asked often if they are twins), so before eBags Cubes, their clothes would always get mixed up because with most of their clothes, you have to look at the tags for the size rather than just visibly see if that clothing item is smaller or bigger to see whose is whose. With the Cubes, it's SOOO nice!! One boy has orange, the other boy has green, and that is it.... they just know to look in their own color of cube to find their own clothes. SUCH a time-saver. :)

Also, yes, we use the small and slim sized cubes for toiletries, and electronics (we don't have the padded ones, but we carry the breakable electronics in our carry-ons), but we put chargers, and stuff like that in the cubes in our luggage. So, for sure, the cubes are not only for clothes.

Also, we are going on the Disney Fantasy this weekend :cool1: and it's not warm enough here to wear our summer clothes, so I packed all of our cubes for our Fantasy cruise this past weekend, and just set all the cubes in our closet... so we are already 95% packed for our upcoming trip, but there aren't any suitcases laying all over the place with clothes just sitting in them.... all I need to do is pull out the suitcases on Thursday (we fly out on Friday), set the packed cubes in, and we're packed! So nice... so that way I can just focus on getting last minute things done around the house, for our trip, etc, on Thursday rather than madly trying to pack, and make sure everyone has what they need in the suitcases, etc. etc. Cubes have relieved so much pre-travel stress, too! :)

I could go on and on.... can you tell I love Cubes???? :rotfl2:

Kathy,

I also asked if I could Skype call to give a CC number as I didn't want to send it unsecure over email- he said I could just pay upon arrival and I didnt need to give a CC number even though it asks for it on the form, which was good. So I just wrote on there 'as per email conversation, will provide CC number on arrival'. They confirmed receipt so I guess all is good!

Just a follow up with this, I sent the Saint John Mykonos resort an email asking if 1) I could either just wait to give them my CC # in person once we arrive to the resort for our day pass or 2) if there was a secure online form I could fill out for my day pass reservation where I could give my credit card. I just asked them if there was a more secure way to get them my CC rather than fax.

They wrote back and said it would be no problem to give my CC # at the front desk the day we arrive and I could just fax in our reservation form without the CC #, so the same response as you, Nicole. :)

Thanks for the tip! I'm sure it would probably be fine faxing the CC#, but since the CC wasn't for any pre-payment, I was hoping they'd also be fine with me giving my CC on the day we arrive. :)

Also, speaking of beaches, for those of you who didn't notice (or maybe I just missed it all together when I booked my port adventures), they've added another Beach excursion to the excursion list for Mykonos (so it's not only Elia beach). The other beach is only transportation to and from the beach, nothing else is included (so it's a lot cheaper than Elia).

But, we're still doing to do the resort day pass on our own... just works better for our family.

I also invested in a small luggage scale a few years ago and its been great. Its always within a pound or less of the number on the airport scale. Definitely been a lifesaver to remove/rearrange items in the hotel before leaving so as not to cause a scene at the airport!

Regarding the packing of your electronics' chargers, I strongly advise against that, at least definitely for international trips. I used to always do that too for many years because chargers are so bulky for some things like laptops, and not necessary in a carryon. That was until my luggage was lost for a few days flying back to college from winter break. It took them several days to find and deliver the luggage to my apartment which contained all of my clothes, no big deal as I had plenty more, but all my chargers for my phone, laptop, etc! Needing my laptop for schoolwork, I nearly would have had to spend over $100 to buy a new one if my luggage hadnt finally arrived as it only had 6 hours of battery life. Now with something like an iphone the charger is cheaper and probably easier to find in a store, but a laptop charger is brand/laptop specific so that would have been more expensive and time consuming to replace. Plus for international, you couldn't replace it for sure because the plug's prongs would be shaped differently. So for these reasons although they take up a lot of space, I never pack my chargers in my checked luggage because I know if I lost them, it could potentially ruin my trip if I couldn't charge my cameras, etc.

Have a great time on the Fantasy! Is this your first time sailing her? I sailed her in January and loved it- so beautiful. I liked the addition of Satellite Falls for adults but I was not happy that they added so much more shaded areas to the top deck than they did on the Dream. I like SUN on vacation and sometimes it was hard to get a lounger in the sun (and I was by myself!) because they added all these shady parts. But other than that its a great ship. Still looking forward to the classic Magic though!

I'm so relieved you got the same response! It makes me feel like its more legit that way. I'm sure we are all going to have a great time at the resort--the day we are in Mykonos has a very high passenger port load if you check the website that lists the cruises in port that day, so the public beaches are going to be insane. St. John's looks like pure bliss and such a great price!

Hey there,

Oh, I wasn't totally specific in my earlier post... actually, for a lot of our electronics, we have more than one charger (this is due to my DH who likes to make sure we have an extra in case we lose one, or leave it in a hotel room, which we've done before, etc), so for my DH's laptop and our cell phones, etc, we bring more than one charger, and we always have chargers in our carry-ons, but have back-ups in our suitcase (this way we can charge our electronics in the airport, too, while we are waiting for our flight). So, that is a long way of saying I totally agree with you! I also hear you on the airlines losing your luggage!! That does happen for sure (let's hope it doesn't happen to any of us for our cruise!!)

Although... one time on British Airways, my DH's luggage didn't arrive to his destination (he was traveling on Business to London). British Airways told him to go out and buy everything he needed to get him by for his trip (so it was all business clothes, and in London, that is not cheap), and send them the receipts, and they would reimburse him! So, in 4 hours of quick shopping, he bought a weeks worth of business clothes and spent quite a bit, and British reimbursed him 100%. But, here is the funny thing.... at the end of his trip, his luggage showed up at his hotel room!! Turns out they "misplaced" his luggage (ie, lost track of it), but they still told him to send him all his receipts and they reimbursed him for his clothes. Not sure if all airlines will do that, but we thought that was pretty good customer service! But, it was pretty stressful to my husband because he literally only had 4 hours to go and find a week's worth of business clothes that fit him right and that were all in sizes he wasn't familiar with! He just went to one department store, and had someone in the men's department completely outfit him for the week. LOL!

Yes, Saint John's does sound really great!!! Hopefully it won't be too crowded, but it will still be so nice!

yes, this will be the first time on the Fantasy (and we've never been on the Dream). We didn't think we would even go on the Fantasy, as we just really love the smaller classic ships, and the big ships don't necessarily appeal to us as much, BUT back when the 2012 fares/itineraries first came out, the price for our family for this particular sailing was too good to be true!! (It has gone up a lot since), and it was right at our boy's spring break (perfect timing!)... and we have tons of airline miles, so we knew we could book mileage tickets to Florida, so we just decided to give the Fantasy a try -- and give us an excuse to do another Disney cruise ;) (and we had a 10% off credit from a "dummy" booking, so we just used that, too)!

SO, we'll see how we like it compared to the Magic and Wonder! I mean, I'm SURE we'll have a super great time!!! We LOVE cruising with Disney (only cruise line we'll go on), and so I KNOW we'll love it... I just am not sure about the amount of people on board (if it'll just feel more crowded, less personable, etc). But, from what I've read on the main DisBoards, people say it doesn't feel crowded like one might think it would. We'll see next week!

Oh, and that is a good heads up on the shady spots on the top deck. I'm like you, I like the sun!! So, I'll be looking for sunny spots for sure. :beach: We get PLENTY of shade here in Seattle... LOL!!! So, I definitely gravitate toward sun!

Ok...based on the suggestions I bought some ebags for DS and I. DH would just complain about me spending month on something he doesn't need. He "knows" how to pack since he travels most weeks for work...blah, blah, blah.

I got one color set for me, another set for DS plus some extra slims for misc stuff and a set of 3 large in yet another color for the overnights.

DS and DH are going to Colombia for 10 days in June so that will be the perfect opportunity to try them out for DS. Also to see how many he really needs for the trip. Will plan to pack similar to our trip in July. Colors won't really matter and I'll just mix and match to get the right number for him. Then I can estimate mine too and get the rest of what I need.

As soon as I get this project for DS's school done (hopefully tonight) and then our taxes, I'll be able to get back to focusing on this trip!

In my case with the luggage it was US airways and they told me it had to be missing for a few days (i forget exactly) before I would get any reimbursements for what I purchased, so that didn't help. good thing it worked out for your DH though and he got all that new stuff plus his old stuff back!

I don't think St. John will be crowded. Not many people know about it as far as cruisers go. Even if the resort is full they can only allow so many people. In any event it will be far better than the crowded public beaches.

There were times on the Fantasy/Dream where I felt like there was no difference in crowd size compared to the Classics, but other times it felt way more packed. Cabanas buffet is an absolute zoo of people. Its much larger, but way more people. Also a zoo is the atrium in the evenings- live music, tons of pictures, characters- all this stuff going on at once its insane. The dining rooms are also much louder and larger. But other areas like the adult parts felt no more crowded to me. For me having sailed the classics 4 times and the new ones 3 times, I have pros/cons about each and now pick based on itinerary.
